Advantages: Cheap, decent spray.
Disadvantages: none
Just lately I seem to be systematically working my way through the supermarket basic ranges. Admittedly there have been some value products that have been too basic but I have encountered the odd one or two that have met with approval.
I have always used hairspray, just a touch to help keep the barnet in place!
There is a never ending range of sprays on offer these days and as soon as you turn your back another top hair stylist is introducing yet another `wonder` spray.
A personal favourite is Silvikrin hairspray, it is good at its job, it is pleasantly perfumed and the fine spray gives a good firm hold.
I had no real reason for trying out the Tesco Value hairspray, admittedly the price being 37p for a 300ml can did play a part in my decision but I think that I picked it up out of interest more than anything else.
Why is it that all of the major supermarket chains have to use the most unattractive packaging for their basic ranges?
Tesco have chosen red, white and blue and have embraced the minimal approach with verve. We all realise that Value products have to be produced as cheaply as possible but surely they could have found a colour scheme and design that was in some way attractive?
I think most of us have certain items on display in the bedroom but my can of Value hairspray had to be shoved away in a drawer out of sight.
I expected a wet jet to shoot from the aerosol can, don't ask me why!
I suppose I associated the fine misty perfumed spray along with a good brand name.
But in all honesty I was completely wrong, as I pressed the spray button a superfine misty jet of hairspray shot out of the can. It covered my hair well enough without stickiness or giving it the gluey look and the spray was powerful.
My hair wasn't left wet or even damp and the Value hairspray offered a good hold.
Whereas some of the better quality hairsprays are accompanied by a lovely perfume the Tesco Value Spray has next to nothing to offer in that department.
The spray lasted the course of the day and brushed out well before bed leaving no flaky white bits in its wake.
Now, I am not saying that this product is going to be everyone's cup of tea. Tesco have made sure that the product has no style appeal and many wouldn't even give the hairspray house room at 37p.
But I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the spray, maybe not up to John Frieda standards but then again it is way off of John Frieda price.
I have decided that this has to be one of the better value range buys and I am going to buy a couple to keep in the drawer to fall back on..lets face it for 37p I am not going to lose anything am I ?
Summary: An honest value product
