Advantages: Cheap, easy to use, lasts a while for me.
Disadvantages: Not suitable for big styles requiring a strong hold. Many layers may be needed
I always like to give the Tesco value range a try as I find the prices are so low I'm not really risking much when giving their products a try for myself.
However having said this, I was a little reluctant to try this hairspray as I know it's really easy to pick up a crap value spray which doesn't do much in terms of holding your hair. Hairspray is important on days like dance shows for us. If we don't have a good enough hair spray then my sister ends up on stage with bed hair!
I have also found it's hard for me personally to find a spray which is strong enough to hold my style, yet doesn't leave my hair hard and rough by the end of the night.
I grabbed a bottle of this Tesco value hairspray for around 37p, which when you are on a budget, is a fantastic buy! Although I didn't have much faith in this bottle and so decided to also go for a spray with a more popular brand as a backup.
This hairspray comes in a 300ml and as far as I know, there aren't any smaller varieties. But really when comparing the price to the size of the bottle, it would be hard for Tesco to create a smaller tube without having to just about give it away for free.
300ml is around the same as the other sized hair sprays which is good considering the price comparisons.
This hairspray is easy to use and I find it comes out in a sort of 'mist' rather than a projected spray. This I find is fantastic as it helps to cover every strand of hair needed rather than drench each section.
However as it is such a fine mist, I do find I sometimes need to add a few layers.
The strength of the spray isn't the best and on days when I decide to curl my whole hair, I never leave without applying 2 or 3 layers.
Even after applying a few layers, the hairspray doesn't last all day. This could be a problem for people who are out for the day and wanting an all day look. I would recommend taking the spray with you to reapply throughout the day if that is the case.
However for me, the hairspray is perfect. Its faults are actually it's advantages for me personally as I love the idea of being able to restyle and smooth out my hair at the end of the day without the sticky hard or flaky feeling of your hair after using other stronger hair sprays.
This Tesco hairspray holds hair lightly and probably wouldn't be suitable if you have very curly hair and you want to curl it, as it isn't very strong.
The same applies for if you have naturally really straight hair, the curls would probably fall out by the end of the day.
However I have noticed a difference when going out without any hairspray at all, comparing to using a quick apply of this spray. My curls hold for longer and for me it lasts just long enough.
I tend to curl just the ends of my hair or just the front, so I focus the spray in just one area.
I have had my 300ml bottle for about 3 months now and still have about 20% left. However I didn't use it much for the first 2 months as I don't like to apply heat to my hair much.
But for the price and considering how many layers I need each time I use it, I think my one bottle has held out for a pretty decent length of time.
The spray holds quite a potent smell to it; it reminds me slightly of the smell of nail varnish remover and really does get down your throat when using a lot of the spray.
Although this doesn't put me off as I don't expect hairspray to smell of roses!
The bottle is pretty plain, the hairspray I picked up recently comes in a boring white tube with the Tesco value logo and quite a low quality rubbish photo of a lady wafting her hair... to be fair it just looks like a blur.
The lid doesn't stay on and I lost mine within the first week, but again this doesn't affect the quality of the product.
Overall, I will buy this again. For 37p it's perfect for me. It lasts me a while and holds my hair for just the right length of time.
For styles requiring a stronger hold, more layers would be needed. I would actually recommend using a stronger hair spray if you are styling your hair for a special occasion such as a wedding, to ensure your hair holds all day!
Thank you for reading, I also post on Ciao
Summary: Worth a buy for its price!
