Whilst desperately trying to restore my hair back its healthy condition after bleaching it blonde I decided to buy this Colour Combat Dumb Blonde Conditioner by TIGI. I've been trying many different conditioning products of late, some of which have significantly improved the condition of my hair and others which haven't done much at all. Whilst I hadn't used any products from the Bed Head range myself before this I had heard good things about the range and this particular conditioner seemed to be aimed at hair exactly like mine so I decided to give it a try.
The conditioner can only bought in salons or from a number of different websites. A 200ml bottle will cost you about £12 from a salon but can be found for around £6 to £10 online. I purchased my bottle from Amazon where I paid £7 with free delivery. Whilst this cheaper price is still quite pricey for 200ml of conditioner I thought it'd be completely worth it if it lived up to its claims.
The conditioner comes in a plastic bottle which stands upside down on its clear plastic flip top lid. The top of the bottle is an explosion of colour which splashes of orange, purple, red and green all creating a pretty but messy background with the white Bed Head and TIGI logo. The product name is written across the middle of the bottle and we are also told this conditioner offers 'therapy' for 'highlighted or bleached blonde babes' and that it battles breakage and lifeless colour. The back of the bottle describes this product as 'a perfect, protecting blend of nourishing elements which balance bleached and multi-processed hair for an amazing, healthy look. Our colour lockdown technology helps safeguard against fading so colour tone stays pure and perky.'
In short, this sounded great. A conditioner specifically designed for repairing bleached blonde hair which also fights against fading meaning colouring can be done less regularly and hair can stay healthy! As I've said, if this lived up to those claims I'd be buying bottle after bottle even if it did cost £7!
Opening the flip top lid reveals an absolutely gorgeous tropical fruit scent. It's like peach, mango and pineapple mixed together to create an almost mouth watering juicy scent and the scent is clearly detectable the moment the lid opens. I was also very much hoping that the scent of this would linger in my hair for ages!
The conditioner itself is thick, creamy and a pale orange colour, rubbing it into my hair is an absolute pleasure with that fruity scent filling up my bathroom and nostrils! It applies evenly very easily and I don't find I need to use too much of it either to get a good lather on my short hair. Rinsing off is also as easy as you'd expect and it comes with no problems whatsoever leaving my hair feeling very soft whilst I'm doing so.
Up until this point I'm very happy with the conditioner as it seems to be doing a good job and smells really good. The problems, however, come after washing. Whilst my hair feels free of residue during the rinsing process it feels fully clogged up after drying. Just a mere hour after washing my hair it feels really greasy as though it's in need of a good wash once I've used this! It's impossible to manage and just sticks out all over the place. And, just to rub insult into injury, the overall condition of my hair is left in no better state either.
To begin with I thought maybe I'd just dropped something in my bath water which caused the greasiness of my hair. After using a couple more times in both baths and showers it became clear it was the conditioner and nothing else having this affect on my hair. I tried using much less thinking I was perhaps using too much, this made no difference either. In short, the conditioner is useless. It makes me want to immediately rewash my hair with something else and has no improvement on the dryness or brittleness of my hair. It's just rubbish. That lovely scent doesn't even linger!
I completely would not recommend this to anyone at all. In fact you'll probably get better results from a super market value range conditioner. Using the conditioner is really nice but the results are just horrid and I would describe this product as nothing more than a complete waste of money. £1 would be a rip off for this, £7 feels like I've been robbed.
A year ago I had horrifically over processed hair after going through so much bleaching and toning to become white blonde and my hair was paying for it. I tried a range of different conditioners and found that they only temporarily masked my hair with silicone rather than actually nourishing my hair and repairing it.
I found this particular conditioner on offer at my local sallys wholesaler and after reading the description about how it is especially for processed blonde hair that needs repairing I thought, great this product will help me as I'd used tigi bed head stuff before but not this particular type.
Later that evening I showered and used the conditioner (along with the shampoo also) and found that instead of having tamed and relatively smooth hair as I usually did with the other conditioners, I had straw like and knotted hair. I was getting annoyed but I thought I'd leave the conditioner in for five minutes for extra measure just in case my hair needed it. Sure enough it was hell rinsing it out of my hair and I had to use another conditioner so I didn't end up pulling my hair out when I brush it.
I thought perhaps this was a one off instance so I decided it would be appropriate to keep at it and try and see if I was just having one of those days with my hair being unruly and difficult to manage. I was wrong, it kept happening and I eventually gave up with the conditioner and then forked out for something else which really wound me up.
I ended up using the conditioner as an alternative to shaving foam - normally I'd use really cheap super market brands for this but it seemed pointless just leaving a full bottle of conditioner just lying there and not being used. So in theory I could still use it and enjoy the gorgeous smell, but it wasn't doing it's job like it was supposed to on my hair!!
I really wouldn't advise buying this particular conditioner as it didn't do anything for my hair. However I did have good experiences with other bed head ranges, just unfortunately this particular one became a waste of time and money for me and let me down big time. I eventually found the right conditioner with aussie 3 minute miracle conditioner which is less than half the price of dumb blonde.
Goes to show that not all salon brands are worth the money and that you can find a better deal in the super market once in a while.
