Advantages: Could be good for children. (Though do not leave them with the tube, they will eat it!)
Disadvantages: Not if you want to wear pefume, have frizzy hair or a Kerastase addiction apparently.
Having used and loved the Superstar Conditioner, also by TIGI, I have decided that either my goal posts for good hair care lines have moved, or the shampoo just 'aint all that.
Named "Superstar" shampoo, it promises "big hair" and the bottle requests you use with a sense of humour. Not really sure what's meant by that- how funny would it be to find "I took your money and ran, leaving you with this as a joke" or (and hopefully) something less cynical!
Costing me £5 from Ebay (and it's not too far from that price elsewhere either) for a 300mls tube, it's not a far cry from some of the "deluxe" shampoos you see in Boots and Tescos. But being a salon based brand, it's pitched against products such as Paul Mitchell, Kerastase and etc. Except those lines cost double and sometimes treble what TIGI does. In all, it's hard to know how to rate this line and shampoo- it's in a league of its own- too "cheap" in price to expect the miracles of Kerastase and too pricey to compare to supermarket branded lines. But I will do my best here by being honest and trying to describe the experience and effect of each step of use.
The conditioner- for those that have not read my previous review marked it as a top hair product which left my hair smelling very sweet- like sugary strawberries (great for kids old enough to know not to eat hair care!) which lasted a good few hours after use. It also left my hair softer then it had previously been. What I expected from the shampoo was a boost to this- for my hair to be even softer, even sweeter and even slinkier, and much bigger. But I am afraid, it did not deliver!
It wasn't all bad though- the shampoo has a sweet scent, akin to the strawberry scented conditioner. It is a runny gel like formula which lathers especially well and seemed to do a good job of cleaning my hair. My hair felt rougher when rinsing though in the shower. I should add here that for the past few months I have been using very expensive hair care lines which had my hair feeling like silk. Seeing as I paid half the price of those products, maybe I should lower the standards for this product.... Naah! Money is money, you spend it, you expect results, regardless of how little you paid, if something doesn't work, you move on, you don't think "well I only paid £x for it, I'll let it go" (or maybe that's me with overly high expectations!).
After using the shampoo, my next step was the conditioner, from the same line. Though this review is on the shampoo, I wanted to state what else as I was using just in case people worry that I did not follow manufacturer's instructions or something.
The scent remained in my hair, when drying. It also remained after drying, but did fade over the next day. However! I would suggest you don't wear a perfume as it can get kind of sickly- the scent of the shampoo is enough that it lasts quite well- and having used the conditioner alone before, I can say its mainly the shampoo which I feel left my hair smelling of strawberries. Kids may love this, but unless you're into your sugary sweet scents, I'd watch it before a night out- the worst scent you can try to wear with this I think would be a musk scent. I know, I tried, I felt ill!
After I had dried my hair, I began to notice my hair was really not that soft at all. I do think TIGI is still a cut above the supermarket store offerings, but not as much as they'd like you to believe. And my hair did not feel as silky as I have become accustomed to by using Kerastase.
My hair was also slightly frizzy (its natural state if I do not use special products to deal with it). While this shampoo did not even promise to control frizz, I would have hoped it would have done something to help!
What this shampoo claims to do is make big hair. And again, sorry, it doesn't really deliver- in fact my hair was marginally bigger, but nothing to write home about- I expected a back-combed massive size, but not at all. Though my hair was definitely not weighed down or too frizzy to brush, it could have been in better condition. I was not that impressed by the results.
So my conclusion? Well I now have a great pressie for my niece come Christmas- who hates the bath as much as me (hence the huge collection of beauty products I have to entice me to wash every day!) this is a fab product for kids; the scent, the colour of the tube, the name, but not really for me.
Summary: Not for me.
