This is my final review for the range of Tigi Catwalk Your Highness products that I use regularly on my hair, which is very thin and fine. This review is for the Thickening Gel Crème. You will know if you have read my other reviews that Tigi Catwalk is a professional hair care brand designed by hairdressers. Their website states that the brand takes its inspiration from the backstage world of fashion, celebrity and beauty. It brings specialist products and techniques to let you create the latest on-trend looks with speed and ease. The Your Highness Collection is a range of products that are meant to give volume to hair from the roots and therefore give hair body and movement.
The Thickening Gel Crème is a styling product that is used after the shampoo and conditioner. It comes in a 215 ml purple bottle, with silver writing on it and a pump top, which easily dispenses the gel. On using the pump the gel comes out and is purple in colour which is quite fun but a bit strange looking! Fortunately it does not turn you hair purple. The consistency of the gel is quite runny and I find that you have to shake the bottle regularly to make sure that it does not become too liquid. I normally use about a 5p size worth of gel, which is one pump and then spread it between my hands before adding it to my hair. It is not at all sticky and disperses through the hair easily. I think you do need to experiment to find the right amount for your hair depending on length etc as if you use too much it can make hair go a bit brittle. On blow drying my hair the gel helps to add fullness and structure and I find it works as well as other volume gels or mousses that I have used. It especially helps to give some lift to the roots of my hair and make it look a bit thicker. However it does not visibly give loads of extra volume (not much I have tried ever does) so I am still looking for my miracle product! The price of the gel is between £7 - £10 (depending on where you purchase it) and it can be bought online from a number of retailers including Look Fantastic and Amazon. The bottle lasts me at least a year, which is good value for money. I would definitely recommend it as part of the overall Your Highness range even if it does not give as much volume as I would like. My hair is wild and frizzy so I spend ages making it look calm and straight. Sometimes this also leads to my hair looking a little flat which I dislike as much as the frizz! I often try out new products to add some volume to my hair and one of these products was the Tigi Your Highness Thickening Gel Creme. What does the product do? The product promises to add a big of va va voom into flat and lifeless hair leaving it thicker and fuller. It claims that it will leave the hair manageable and shining with health. It is essentially a styling cream that will add body and volume into fine and flat hair. It also contains UV filters which helps to protect the hair against sun damage. It also contains Lavender and Wisteria to hydrate and condition the hair, as well as Jasmine and Violet. How do you use the product? The product is a finishing creme which is to applied to damp hair which has been shampooed and conditioned. You are directly to smooth one to three pumps of the product to the hair and the comb it through the length of your hair. You then dry and style the hair in the usual way. Packaging and Price The product comes contained with a purple and black plastic bottle like all of the other products in the Your Highness collection. It looks classy and eye catching, and there is some extra information given about the product on the front and back of the bottle. The top of the bottle has a pump dispenser and you push down on this in order to release the product. You can purchase the product from most good hair salons and also from a range of online websites and it will cost you around £10 for 215ml. Application As with all of the Tigi products, this one comes with a completely delicious aroma. It smells incredibly fruity like Blackberries without being too artificial, sickly or sweet. The aroma is evident as soon as you dispense the product from the bottle. You really don't need to use much of this product at all which is good because it means that the product will last a long time. When you push down on the dispenser, a small amount comes out and two pumps is enough to coat the hair. It is easy to smooth onto the hair and it smells delicious the whole time. I then blow dry my hair upside down to get more volume and this product doesn't tangle the hair or make it feel tacky or sticky. Performance Once my hair is dry, the lovely aroma fades away but it still there a little so your hair will smell a bit fresh and fruity. The product is moisturising so it leaves my hair feeling soft and looking in a good condition. As it hydrates the hair, my hair seems less frizzy, more manageable and easier to control and straighten. The product also coats the hair with a nice shine which makes it look healthy. As for the UV protection, it's hard to say if this works as we never see the sun here but it's good to know that the protection is in the product. As for the volume, I would say it makes my hair look a fuller, and gives my hair a little bit more volume and bounce. It doesn't make a massive difference and I would say it makes the hair look conditioned more than it adds volume but it certainly doesn't look flat after use. As long as you don't use too much then it won't make your hair look greasy and it doesn't tangle the hair at all. The hair still looks natural and has plenty of movement which makes this a nice product to use during the day. Conclusion All in all, this product does improve the appearance of your hair by making it look fuller and giving it some extra body. It gives the hair a bit of a shine, leaves it feeling soft and smelling nice. It doesn't tangle the hair or make it look greasy. If your looking for massive volume then you'll be disappointed with this one but if you want a bit more body then this does the job quite well. A little goes a long way so although it's expensive, it will last a very long time.
I received this as a gift from a hairdresser friend of mine and was really excited to use it as my hair is a nightmare to try and get any volume into and she suggested this. PRICE The product is available on many websites for just under £8.50 including delivery. THE BOTTLE The bottle is a tall, cylindrical, purple and black bottle with a pump head on the top which can be removed. The writing on the bottle is silver and tells you the name of the product and how to use it in several languages. The bottle is quite stylish and impressive and I had high hopes for the contents. WHAT DOES IT DO? From the bottle - 'This formula will promote impeccable fullness with amazing manageability and shine, a blend of jasmine, violet and UV filters help protect hair while making it feel thicker and healthier. WHAT DID IT DO FOR ME? The bottle tells you to comb the product on your hair and then blow dry it, 1-3 pumps depending on the length of your hair. The gel is a see through purple colour thick gel, which seems to turn to liquid as soon as it leaves the pump. The product has a nice smell and doesn't smell as chemically as some products. The first time I used the product I had very long hair so went for the 3 pumps, I find the product doesnt comb well through the hair at all and most of the gel stays at the top of your head where you begin combing. Not a lot of product comes out in one pump so I didn't feel 3 pumps was enough to cover evenly through my long hair so I added another couple of pumps. This resulted in 4 or 5 hard patches of hair instead of 1-3. I asked my hairdresser friend to apply it for me and she found the same problem, that it just doesn't comb through the hair well. The gel is very slippy and sticky so would be hard to try putting on your hands and rubbing through your hair. I then got most of my long hair cut off and she told me to try it again, but only to use 1 or 2 pumps. Again it was hard to spread evenly around the hair. It still did nothing. She then told me something about it working like yeast to make your hair fuller and to keep applying it each time and eventually I would see a difference. The 215ml bottle is now empty - 215ml lasts a long time when you're only using it a pump or so at a time. This was a long waste of time, I haven't noticed any difference in the managability or fullness of my hair and am seriously disappointed in the product. Luckily I didn't pay for it (it used to cost £12) or I'd be feeling a bit annoyed. The list of ingredients is quite disturbing aswell, the only products I recognise as being natural are water and sunflower seed oil and the rest reads like a chemical experiment. If this was a shampoo I wouldn't risk using it with my sensitive scalp, luckily this isn't applied to any skin and just the hair. OVERALL The product didn't help me, then again not a lot of products seem to improve the volume of my hair. Just a lot of mousse and rollers which I find too time consuming. If the product does happen to work for you though, it would be good value as the bottle lasts ages.
