Timotei 2 in 1 Delicate Shampoo
Advantages: Smells lovely, cleans hair well
Disadvantages: Does not add shine or much softness to my hair
I switch brands of hair care products often, as I have found that this apaproach works best for me. If I don't, any benefits of a new product tend to plateau, and then fizzle out after a month or so. Most recently I have been using Timotei 2-in-1 Delicate shampoo and conditioner, in the sweet almond oil and vanilla scent. I generally prefer to use a seperate shampoo and conditioner, because I think combined products often have a "Jack of all trades" feel about them and don't leave my hair feel as conditioned or clean as it would otherwise. I picked the 2-in-1 product up by accident in Savers. As it cost only £1 for 300ml, I decided not to change it but to give it a trial.
The "delicate" in the title refers to the fact the product is supposed to cleanse and condition gently. Timotei say your hair will be left "smooth and shiny with a sweet fragrance", and that it will feel "amazingly soft to touch". It contains no parabens, but it does contain Sodium Laureth Sulfate, which I know some people prefer to avoid. It is suitable for normal hair - this is the type of shampoo that I choose most often as my hair goes greasy quickly at the roots, while the ends tend to dryness. "Normal" products therefore keep both parts relatively happy!
The bottle is quite standard and doesn't look especially premium. This does not matter to me personally, as I would rather money was spent on the product rather than pretty packaging. It does look very similar to other Timotei products, which is why I picked up the wrong item in the first place, so read the bottle carefully! The lid is a flip top kind which is really secure - I carried a bottle around in my rucksack for a few days and that would make it leak if it was ever going to. So while it isn't attractive, the packaging does it's job.
The shampoo has a really sweet smell. It doesn't really remind me of either almond oil or vanilla, but is a beautiful scent of it's own. It is similar to the Aussie deep conditioning hair products, if you have ever tried those. I think it is pleasant, and I can catch wafts of it coming from my hair until the next day. It isn't overwhelming though, as the scent smells strongest when you are shampooing, then fades to a subtler level.
It lathers up nicely, and feels smooth and creamy. It is relatively thick in texture so a little goes a long way. At first I kept applying more than I needed but I am used to carefully smoothing it through my hair now. For the same reason, I found it took longer than others to rinse out at first. Once I have done so thoroughly, my hair smells lovely, and feels very clean. I did not think it felt very conditioned though. When I use a good seperate conditioner, I think my hair feels instantly sleeker, and is easier to comb my fingers through prior to brushing. I didn't feel this with the Timotei product. My hair does feel soft to the touch once dry, but not "amazingly" so. It certainly does not look shiny. I do think my hair was margainly easier to manage, being slightly smoother than normal, but the effects were not dramatic. It does look generally healthy, but I feel as though it needs a seperate conditioning to really add some shine and bounce.
This shampoo/conditioner works well only as a shampoo for me. I am happy with how it cleans my hair, as it really did deal with my greasy roots. It also left them in good shape for a couple of days, which while it may not sound very long is an achievement for me as I usually have to wash my hair every day, or almost every day. It just did not really leave my hair feeling as though it had been well conditioned. This product hasn't converted me to 2-in-1 products, although I appreciate using this one did save me a little time. I wouldn't use it again for this reason, despite how much I enjoyed the scent. I know it is supposed to be "gentle" but I don't think this should mean the same thing as "ineffective." It is available for £1 in many places including Poundland and Poundworld, so given it's price it may be worth a try if you only want a light conditioning effect. If you want a product to add lots of shine and softness, my experience suggests this isn't one for you.

Summary: A 2-in-1 product that only works well as a shampoo for me
