Advantages: Leaves hair soft, smooth and easy to comb, not too expensive, nice smell

Disadvantages: Hard to rinse out, leaves hair greasier than usual, leaves hair feeling thinner than usual

I needed something to rescue my hair and when I was browsing the hair care section in TESCO, I found Timotei Silky Shine shampoo and conditioner with orchid and silk proteins. My hair is naturally quite dry, but my previous shampoo had left it in an even worse condition, so a conditioner labeled "Silky Shine" was exactly what I needed.

The shampoo and conditioner both come in a 400ml pale green bottle with a pink lid. They have a picture of a flower on the front - presumably an orchid. I have no idea what an orchid looks like. At the bottom of the bottle is a small label that says "normal or dull hair". The packaging looked slightly cheap in my opinion, but the packaging isn't really the important thing. I was drawn to it because of the natural ingredients (100% natural silk proteins and naturally derived orchid extract) - it says that on the back of the bottle. It also says it will leave your hair shiny and soft.

I used the shampoo and conditioner together. I have not tried the Timotei conditioner with another brand of shampoo or vice versa. Both had a pleasant clean and fresh smell and were slightly pink in colour. After shampooing my hair and rinsing as you would with any shampoo, I applied the conditioner from roots to ends. It says on the bottle to leave for one minute, but I always like to leave conditioner on for a while longer - usually 3-5 minutes. I found the conditioner was quite hard to rinse out. There was a patch on top of my head towards the back that felt greasy even after rinsing it several times.

After washing and conditioning, my hair was very easy to comb. It didn't feel knotted or tangled at all. I let it dry naturally as I always do and when it dry it looked much healthier. It was smoother and shinier and smelt great. It did seem thinner and flatter than usual, but I expected that from a smoothing shampoo. It also became greasy more quickly. I normally only need to wash my hair every 4 days because it's so dry, but after using Timotei I need to wash it every 2-3 days. That's probably not a bad thing for me as I felt like my previous shampoo had stripped my hair of all natural oils, but if your hair normally gets greasy quickly I wouldn't recommend this conditioner.

Summary: A good buy if you want softer, smoother hair, but wouldn't recommend to those with greasy hair
