Why I came across this product
As a child I had the most beautiful natural long ringlets, as time has gone on I now seem to sport a natural frizzbomb. I can remember so well growing up people stopping me and commenting on my "lovely" hair, and I can remember thinking "liar!!" all I wanted was silky smooth straight hair. But of course, you always want what you don't have. If you're tall you wish you were a little shorter, if you're short you probably wish you were a little shorter... and so and so on. Anyway as time went on I found a brilliant cure named hair straighteners, or so I thought. I insisted on straightening it with my hot irons every single day so I could have that flat, lifeless hair I wished I had as opposed to the volume and bounce I had! Well. Shot myself in the foot a little there didn't I! Now I would give anything for those wretched ringlets but I'm never going to get back my natural curls. But now, of course, I don't like straight hair... I want big bouncy curls and waves (yes I am a typical female!) so instead I have to spend a little more at the boots counter and experiment different products!
Whats on the can?
The first thing that attracted me to this product was the packaging, I have tried alot of Toni and Guy Products and have always been impressed so when I saw the shiny silver can with the bold hot pink writing I thought I might give it a go. "Beach curl spray for wild waves & curls" now to me this means a natural loose wave. Worth a shot. The product set me back around £5.00 but looking online now I can see it can be purchased from a pharmacy shop for under £4.00 for 200ml. The can says "This thickening spray helps seperate curls and waves to create a dishevelled, loose, beach-effect"
My use of the product
Does it do what is says on the tin??? Yes I think it does, I think it's probably a product that would be different on certain hair types and perhaps now work as well but it works wonders on my mop!! The way I use it is I shampoo, condition and towel dry my hair. I then spritz twice all over my head and work it into my hair by combing and then scrunching it a little then let it dry naturally. It does say for extra volume use a diffuser and then curl but personally I don't like diffusers so I haven't tried that myself. Since my hair insists on not growing the curls are probably a little tighter on mine than they would be on longer hair but I would still describe them as loose. I have found that if you use a little more of the product then the curls go a little oily and crunchy (sounds lovely doesn't it?!) so really do try not to go overboard with it! If in doubt less is more!! I can't really describe the smell but it is BEAUTIFUL, a very light yet moreish scent and certainly a summer smell. I have found most of the Toni&Guy + Lee Stafford products smell very similar. The product does last on my hair all day without the waves dropping out unlike some curling products, personally I do also much prefer sprays to creams.
I really like this product as a quick fix for some extra volume but I wouldn't use the product every day. I have had the same bottle for around 2 years now and I know I'm still not nearly finished because you really don't need much at a time. I would recommend it for holidays and summer days. Once I finally do finish the spray I will be buying another and certainly would advise it to anyone. If you have any questions at all just give me a shout!!
I don't really do much with my hair as I don't particularly like to use heat on it and because it's quite thick, it can be a pain to straighten! However, Toni & Guy's Beach Curl Spray gives my waves definition, and actually makes them look presentable!
The packaging is beautiful and sleek, with a silver and pink scheme - very girly and looks great on the shelf.
The product indicates to shake well and spray through wet or dry hair for the 'beach' effect. I prefer to put this on drying hair, when it isn't quite bone dry and still has a little dampness to it, as I find this makes the waves look more natural. I simply spray about 3 sprays either side of my head, wait a few seconds and scrunch lightly, giving it a nice, natural look.
The smell is very sickly and sweet, which is great if you like sweet scents, however I personally find this a bit too overpowering. It does last all day though, leaving your hair smelling nice.
My only problems with this are that, as my hair is so thick, if you spray it in hair that's too wet, the product does nothing at all! However, with the right amount of dampness, this holds my thick waves perfectly, which is great. Also, spray too much of this product, particularly on dry hair, and it can go crispy - not a great look.
Just be careful with how much you use!
I was fed up of having either full blown curls or (if I made an effort) sleek GHD-straightened locks. I would pore over magazines wishing I could achieve the sexy beach waves modelled by the celebrities. It looks effortlessly cool. Their hair looked naturally beautiful hair and unprimped. It's such a great low maintenance look. Curl creams and mousses always seemed to overdo it, even if I only applied them sparingly. I'd just about given up on ever achieving beach waves when I found this product. It adds waves and volume without overcurling. It smells nice and leaves hair feeling touchable. None of that repelling crispy texture. It's great for reviving flattened bed hair if you don't have time to wash in the morning. Or for rescuing straightened hairstyles which have been caught out in the rain. The bottle makes it easy to dispense with a spray can pump but it's a bit too bulky to cart about in a bag all day.
Toni & Guy Beach Curl Spray......
Now I am lucky enough to have wavy hair which responds well to being curled or even being straightened but I do need a lot of products to maintain the looks. For my curly hair I have tended to stick with the Umberto Giannini Scrunching Jelly for the main hold of my hair but I tend to find that this does wear off as the day goes and often I need some what of a revamp.
This is really what spurred me on to try out this product from Toni & Guy. The beach Curls Spray costs around £6 for a large can that holds 200 ml and claims to give you wild waves and curls. This of course does sound wonderful and I decided upon this product over a whole host of others that follow along the same lines.
The design of this Toni & Guy can is fairly smart looking as it has a sleek silver can with pink writing on which gives it a more girly feel. The cloudy white plastic lid is easily removed and a spray action pump is revealed.
The use of the spray is very easy and the water type product gets the hair moist without too many pumps. The spray needs to be kept around 6 inches away from the hair so that a light mist coats it, I then scrunch my hair up with my fists and give it a bit of an upside down shake in order to create the curls.
The smell of the product is nice and light and doesn't interfere too much with other scented products I use. The fragrance of the product does longer in the hair slightly but this is more appealing than not.
The spray is light and doesn't create dry or crispy hair in the least but does still manage to create a wavy style that holds well in the hair for a good amount of time.
Overall I have to say that this product is a good once. It does do what it states on the can and does it well. It is a five star product that I can wholly recommend
I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you.
Many thanks for taking the time to read.
