Advantages: Can be used frequently.
Disadvantages: Is quite thin and light on the hair.
I was tempted by the Toni and Guy company slogan on the back of their conditioner bottle which reads: "Achieve salon status style with the right products and tools from Toni and Guy". I was also quite impressed with the appearance of the product: The no-nonsense 250ml size red bottle looks a lot like the high-science style bottles that my hairdresser relies on.
The conditioner is labelled as 'Daily Style Conditioner' which I assume to mean it is suitable for use daily and best for regular hair washing. There is nothing that indicates the conditioner is intended for a specific hair type. The conditioner is described as 'light', however, which might perhaps benefit those with greasy hair or those who use a lot of product, to avoid more build up.
The bottle has a push down dispenser top which squirts out just a little bit of conditioner. I find that I need to pump it at least twelve to fifteen times to generate the right amount of product for my long hair.
The liquid is white, gelatinous and has a waxy shine like glycerine. I find the smell to be very chemically - a bit like artifical coconut. It is a sharp, overpowering smell but not unpleasant.
When applying, the conditioner becomes very thin on contact with wet hair. It is quite difficult to rub in and can only be dispersed effectively by combing through. It is easy to rinse out.
My hair is managable after washing and when dry my hair feels light and thin. The conditioner has a very subtle effect and does not weigh the hair shaft down by clogging it. I do find though that when my hair is dry the final result can be a little bit fly-away, especially now in the colder months.
I would suggest this product is most suitable for those with normal to greasy hair types and for those who use a lot of products between washes. Furthermore, I think the success of the product also relies on your ability to be able to manage your hair style with some professional knowledge. I'm certain that with a combination of after-conditioner styling products applied in the correct way my hair would definately "achieve salon status". As it stands, I'm no expert and I find the conditioner to be passable but not brilliant.
Summary: An effective product for daily use.
