Toni & Guy Firm Hold Hairspray
I have been through a few bottle of this Toni & Guy firm hold hairspray, I think I get at least one as part of a gift pack most Christmas's. I got through a fair amount of hairspray particularly now that I have had a fringe cut back into my hair.
The hairspray comes in a nice silver tin tube that is metallic and looks slightly industrial. On the top of the tube is a frosted plastic lid that you pull off to reveal the spray nozzle inside. The bottle has the bold red Toni & Guy branding and the title. The hairspray boasts lasting and invisible hold on all styles. I currently use a 50 ml bottle but you can buy the full sized 250 ml bottle in the shops.
The hairspray has a white plastic push down nozzle that you press down to release the hairspray. The spray smells slightly fruity and very salon like, it reminds me of being sat having my hair done with all the quality and delicious smelling products. As I have mentioned I only really use hairspray on my fringe, so I blow dry my hair and use a roller brush to style it and give it some volume. Once it is styled into what I want I add the hairspray.
You spray the hairspray from around 20 cm from the area of hair you want to hold in place. The spray comes out much like a mist, it is very light and fine but gets onto your hair easily without losing its force. I spray for a second or two moving the spray from one side of my fringe to the other making sure that it gets even coverage. The hairspray dries very quickly and immediately holds your hair in place with good force considering how light and airy it is.
The spray does not clog your hair or make it feel heavy like some sprays do; in fact it feels quite conditioning and leaves a nice shiny finish on your hair with no frizz or mess. I can brush my hair through and the hairspray will lose a bit of its control, but it does not completely brush out leaving you with limp hair, however I do add a little more after brushing to get the hold back.
Overall I really like the feel and results of this hairspray and can highly recommend it for control, style and quality. A 250 ml bottle of this will cost around £6 at full price from Toni & Guy salons or on the high street and supermarkets.
The name Toni and Guy has been made by a series of wide spread salons in the UK. Almost every city and even some towns have a Toni and Guy salon. The idea is that they are a premium brand, which promotes funky hair cuts, styles and colours. Aimed mainly at the younger generation, but those with a bit more money as they charge premium prices.
When Toni and Guy really picked up as a salon and hit it's popularity they starting bring out a range of hair care products, including shampoo, conditioner, hair spray etc. I received a gift set of the above last year for Christmas and have now used all the products. The packaging is very slim line and minimalistic. There are no pictures, just a tiny bit of text with the name of the product. The hair spray comes in a dulled silver (metal looking) canister with a pull on and off white plastic lid. Underneath is an aerosol spray pump button. The product is nice and easy to use, and easy to disperse evenly.
Price and availability:
I got this in a gift set, as a gift but I know the price was around £10 for hair spray, shampoo and conditioner. You can get mini sizes (for travel and holidays etc) which are often on special offer (EG 3 for 2) in Boots. You can also buy the products direct from Toni and Guy stores. The prices are middle of the range, not premium, but not a cheap bargain either. I haven't seen these in any other stores, but maybe I just haven't been looking hard enough.
The hairspray has a subtle but nice 'salon scent to it'. I would recommend holding the bottle about 30cm from your hair (a standard rulers legnth) and spraying quick and evenly over your hair. I often turn my hair upside down and then repeat from underneath. Obviously if you have any particular areas you wish to fix then you do need to focus on them, but do not get to close or do this too concentrated, as you will end up with a harder, darker chunk of hair which will be incredibly obvious! The hair spray has a fantastic strong hold so it is fab if you have curled your hair for a night out. As long as you spray it on right it looks subtle and not too over done.
If you are looking for strong hold then this is a really great product at a middle of the range price. I only have one problem with this hair spray and that is if you use this you have to wash your hair straight after. There is no way you can get away with not washing your hair the next morning, and brushing it out and tying it into a bun. It will look dirty, old and matted. It needs a thorough wash to really repair it. Therefore I would only recommend this product if you have the time to wash your hair straight afterwards. if you do need strong hold, this is a great product.
I was looking for some industrial strength hairspray to keep my hair do in place when I attended a wedding over the summer. There is nothing worse than having a beautiful hair do and then finding bits dropping out during the day and afternoon and then to find you looking like a complete scrag by the end of the evening!
I had a browse around Boots, a guilty pleasure which I could spend hours doing (!), and thought I'd give the Toni an Guy Firm Hold Hairspray a try. I have never used any of the Toni and Guy products before but as they seem to be a quite reputable brand name an the product said "Firm Hold" I thought I'd give it a whirl as it sounded ideal.
I picked up my 250ml canister in Boot and it set me back £5.49 (though with the VAT increase its now £5.61) which is around the same price as other "premium/named" brands on the shelf. Though the Toni and Guy brand is often on offer in Boots on 3 for £10 so you could do a multi buy and stock up on shampoo etc to make it a little cheaper. This product also comes in a 50ml travel size priced at £1.99 which is ideal for holidays or popping in your handbag for emergencies.
The product advertises that the hairspray is very fine and quick to dry on spraying- this allows an invisible hold to your hair do and keeps it in place, whilst also protecting your hair and keeping it frizz free.
Well, I did all my hair lovely for the wedding and sprayed a mist of hairspray across my head being careful not to get any in my eyes. I think it smells like a salon brand product, not acetoney like some hairsprays can that leave a nasty taste in the back of the throat. It actually gave my hair a nice fragrance to it, quite light, which I really liked. As it advertised, it is fine particled and did dry quickly, setting my style and keeping it in place invisibly. It didn't go hard on my head like some hairsprays do, it just looked natural.
I attended the church, the wedding breakfast and the evening party, I am happy to say that my hair stayed in place all day- even through the breeze during the photos outside the church :-) At the end of the day, when undoing my hair, I found that it brushed out easily and I didn't have to tug the brush through the hair as with some other types of hairspray- this is probably because the hairspray didn't set hard. I will be using the product again.
Just before Christmas my mom decided to give me a few of my small presents early - I wasnt complaining I can tell you! - and amongst the gift sets she gave me was a Toni & Guy collection which I was really looking forward to using. Even though Im very particular about my make-up and I do like to make sure my hair looks all the time I dont make THAT much of an effort with my locks but since I had it cut a few weeks back I want to make sure my new style look brilliant all the time so I was really looking forward to trying out my new T&G products. The very first one I decided to try out was this 'Toni & Guy Firm Hold Hairspray' which I had no idea about - Id never heard anything about this product good or bad so I went into this with an open mind - Im still not 100% on what I think of this product. Like most of the Toni & Guy range it is good but probably no better than my bog standard hairspray.
Price: 50ml travel size spray - £1.99
Stockists: Boots & Superdrug.
Other Info: Promises to tame flyaway, frizzy hair & also hold styles perfectly all day. Invisible hold thats non-sticky and manages to hold all day. This can is quite small so its perfect for travelling and easy to transport.
This hairspray comes in a small silver canister with the Toni & Guy brand name written up the side in bright red lettering. All the information about the spray is written on the back with the additional info: directions for use, ingredients etc so any questions you have should be answered on the can. At the top of the can is the usual push down nozzle and there is a lid on this spray so if your carrying around it wont spray all in your bag and that lid seems to be pretty secure. The small can is perfect for me - my friends take the mick out of me as I carry around so much stuff in my bag on a night out so this helps save room in my handbag. Perfect size for transporting about but I think if you really like this it does come in a slightly larger size as well.
So to use this spray you simply hold it quite a distance from your hair (I dont know the exact distance to be honest) and spray directly onto whatever style you wish to hold - this can also be used on hair when it is simply down to stop it becoming frizzy or flyaway which is how I tend to use it most of the time. If you spray this too close to your hair it will become to sticky and wont dry easily so keep your distance for best results. This one does have the usual chemical kind of scent that you would associate with hairspray but it has the distinctive T&G scent added in so it smell quite musky - better than my usual hairspray anyway as it isnt nowhere near as strong or overpowering.
As I said I mainly tend to use this on my hair when its down because it does actually do what it promises in that respect and does stop my hair becoming frizzy - I dont have particularly frizzy hair anyway but sometimes throughout the day it can become a bit flyaway and this does help to stop that so in that respect it does really work. I have also used this on my hair when it is up and styled - normally in a messy plait or normal ponytail and this definitely helps to keep whatever style in place for a really long time without gving me that hard headed or crunchy hair kind of look. This hold my style for around 5 hours which is very good but not really any longer than my normal hairspray which doesnt cost anywhere near as much. This product definitely works theres no doubt about that but whether it works any better than a cheaper, non-branded product Im not convinced.
I cant fault the product as a whole because for me it does everything it promises and does smell better than most hairsprays but Im not sure whether the end results are any better than a cheaper spray. Im going to knock 1 star off because its not exactly unique and doesnt do anything different to the usual - Im enjoying using the can while it lasts though - just not sure Ill be buying again when my can runs out.
Thanks For Reading.
