Advantages: Great for shaping hair and making it behave itself
Disadvantages: Too much makes hair greasy
At Christmas I decided to treat myself to some items I had really wanted to try for ages and for some reason I've always wanted to try out Toni & Guy products. I've always believed that trendy, stylish people owned them and I thought I want a bit of that!
So one of the products I bought was Toni & Guy Funky Gum.
The Packaging...
75ml recyclable red tin with black and silver writing on it. Tell's me on the front very clearly who it is by and what it is and tells me it's for flexible separation with shine and of course mentioning shine is what made me purchase it as I'm addicted to glossy locks! lol On the bottom of the tin gives me contact details for Toni & Guy.
The 'gum' is white, thick, sticky and smells slightly sweet and pleasant but it is suitable for men or women.
I don't know really what made me purchase such a product to be honest. It was spur of the moment decision and I was in shopaholic mode and I tend to get carried away me thinks lol
This product is obviously just by the name of it, most suited to people wanting to stick bits of hair up and do funky things with their barnet. I however have shoulder length hair that I wear for the majority of time straight!
Directions For Use...
Rub a small amount between palms. 'Clap' together to activate fibres. Work through wet or dry hair.
Using The Product....
It comes out as you expect, thick, gooey and sticky. First time I was about to use it I thought ah oh I've made an error of judgment with this purchase! So I styled my hair as usual and decided to use this as the last product instead of hairspray.
So a blob about the size of a 5p coin is fine. Rub between hands and it turns into a wax like liquid. I coated over the top layers of my hair. Smell was lovely and subtle . It does go on greasy and sticky and you can see how if you wanted funky style you would achieve it. However I put a thin layer over the top layers as I said.
Result....
Lovely shine. Really lovely and subtle and not 'fake'. Hair doesn't feel all glued up but it had control and it felt more natural than hairspray. It tamed the frizz I have that is near my scalp and broken hairs moulded into my straightened hair. Split ends also blended in better with using this product. Hair looked defined and my choppy style looked very finished, sharp and edgy.
Now, cos my hair looked natural and felt it when I went out I thought a gust of wind would and humidity may interfere with it as it's a greasy product. I had visions of wind making it stick up into a mochicon and me not being able to fix it! It certainly did not. Humidity didn't make it feel greasy and frizz stayed banished. Sure the wind blew my style but with fingers I soon got it looking perfect again. I do suffer with greasy roots and I can't put this product anywhere near them cos my roots hates it and goes like an oil slick but it is great for dry hair as it is nourishing and hydrating even though it is a gum. For me it doesn't make my hair look greasy and it doesnt feel it and even better, it washes out ever so easy leaving no residue but do bear in mind this isn't a product I chose to use every day so I'm not sure if you did use it every day whether you'd get a build up but I'm guessing that you would. Also I haven't dared to use it on wet hair yet I'm worried about sticking something wax like on to wet hair so I'm not that daring lol
Conclusion...
For me I liked this product and it will last me years at the rate I'm using it. I wouldn't say to someone with long hair to purchase it as there are easier ways of getting your hair to behave but there isn't a reason you cant use it! However if you have a short do and like spikes and stuff this is perfect for you.
£6.99 Boots.
Summary: Great for short styles
