Funky Gum or messy greasy hair?
For more than 45 years, TONI&GUY has combined a reputation for quality with the pursuit of cutting-edge modernity. TONI&GUY emphasises education, product development and training, and values the importance of positioning the brand in the broader context of fashion and style, so when I was given a sample TONI&GUY Funky Gum I had no hesitation in trying it out.
It comes in a neat little round red metal tub with a screw on lid. The tub holds 75 ml of rather pleasant smelling "funky gum" and costs £6.99 in Boots the Chemist who have exclusivity on the sale of Toni & Guy products.
On opening the tub there is a clear plastic disc covering the funky gum and when I pushed this down the funky gum squeezed up the sides. A little (very little) needs to be lifted on the fingers and rubbed into towel dried hair and then the hair dried and styled as desired.
The gum itself is a white sticky mixture almost the colour of candle wax and with the texture of soft, sticky wax. The smell is slightly sweet and has a vanilla undertone. When you remove some wax from the tub and rub it between your palms before applying to the hair, it become softer but remains quite sticky.
On first using I was a bit apprehensive as it seemed to be too sticky for my hair. I am not very young or trendy and do not want a dramatic hair style, however after putting a little in my hair, brushing it through and styling my hair, it did make styling easy, the style stayed in place and the hair had a lovely soft feel and a delightful perfume.
One word of warning, if you use a bit too much your hair will be greasy and heavy.
Since getting my sample I have bought a second tub, the first one was very small but lasted me about 6 months, this one I am sure will last a long time. I would recommend this but use sparingly.
Summary: A nice product if used sparingly

- 01/09/09 To be honest, I think the secret of most styling product is to go easy on it. Quite like this stuff - big fan of the dinky little tin, which is great for travelling. |
