Disadvantages: often booked up, and cannot be late!

I've frequented the Manchester branch of Toni and Guy's training academies since I was pulled in from the shops for a free haircut for a student's portfolio. Since then, my haircuts have reached the princely price of £12, and compared to a recent emergency splurge of £40 in a normal Toni and Guy hairdresser I can honestly say that there was little point spending the extra cash.

The Toni and Guy academies book up very quickly, and only offer 2 time slots (am or pm) so if you want a haircut, plan at least a week in advance. Arrive early too - I have once turned up 5 minutes late, and unfortunately whilst the other models and students had paired off there were 2 absent students, which then meant 2 models were sent away without a haircut, though we did recieve a very polite apology, refund and rebooking for a free cut.

One you arrive, the students basically get to pick their model. I generally lag a little in being chosen, probably because I have long hair which has no intention of having a very interesting or challenging cut. However, all the students are courteous, professional and closely watched by a teacher/supervisor, so in my opinion you're safer in these hands that at cheaper hairdressers.

The Toni and Guy academy students are very up-to-date on modern styles and complex cutting techniques that i'm fairly sure other hairdressers aren't even aware of, and are thoroughly competent stylists providing professional service for a drastically cut price!
