“ Brand: Toni & Guy / Texture: Fluid / Type: Hair Balm / What it does: Smoothes, regenerates, „
I received this Toni & Guy no-kinks smoothing balm in a Toni & Guy gift set I received for Christmas a few years ago. I actually ended up with quite a few of these and so still have some left from my last bottle, as I don't use it everyday and so it lasts me some time.
This smoothing balm is designed for sleeker, straighter looks. It helps seal cuticles in an instant and the anti-humidity agents help combat frizz. The non-sticky formula creates sleek, glossy looks that last. I thought this would be perfect for my hair as I have naturally curly hair and so when I straighten it I need to use some sort of product to help control the frizz and to stop it looking kinky.
To apply you rub a small blob into palms and apply to wet hair from roots right to the ends and the comb through. You can alternatively use this on dry hair to smooth it out even more, but I would only use a tiny amount on dry hair to prevent it from looking greasy.
I used this on my wet hair almost every time I was blow drying it straight. However, I didn't feel that this product alone really helped keep my hair looking smooth. It did seem to control the frizz however kinks seemed to appear in my hair by the end of the day. I was afraid that if I applied any more to my hair then instead it would just appear greasy.
It wasn't until I ran out of the product I used on my curls when I left my hair to dry naturally that I found a purpose for this smoothing balm. I was looking through my stack of hair products that I have collected over the years and decided to apply this to my dry curly hair to see if it would smooth the curls and make them less frizzy. Sure enough it did. I have since been using this balm on my dry curly hair instead of what it is meant for! It does not make my hair look greasy and does weigh down my curls slightly so that they stay in place.
Toni & Guy have since changed the design of their products and so this smoothing balm does not look like this in Boots anymore. It is instead in a purple bottle and is called 'smoothing lotion'. It may be worth noting though that Boots actually design these products themselves and why you will also find the range exclusive to Boots unless you buy it online. My Toni & Guy hairdresser told me that Boots just pay Toni & Guy to use their branded name on the products, and so for the high quality Toni & Guy ptoducts you need to buy directly from Toni & Guy. Not a lot of people know this!
The smoothing balm is priced at £6.99 for 100ml but is currently on offer in Boots at the moment where you can save 1/3 on selected Toni & Guy haircare.
I tried this balm because it was bought to me as a gift at my birthday and have to admit that it leaves you hair really managable and shiney.
This product when applied to your hair smooths it making it look less frizzy and dry and also makes it soft and healthy looking and full of moisture.
After using this product I noticed that my hair was much more softer than usual and easier to straighten, it left my hair easily managed to style and it smelt great, like when you use any Tony and Guy product.
This balm is applied to your hair after washing you apply a small amount of this balm to your hair and then blow dry and style as usual, its so easy to use that you dont even have to wash it out.
This smoothing balm doesnt come cheap, alike many Tony and Guy products and depending on the size of bottle that you buy and where you buy it, it can cost anything from £1.50 (for the smallest bottle) to £9 (for the larger bottle). I think that it is worth it though if you can splash out for this product, even for special occassions.
I recommend this product to anyone who has frizzy hair or who just wants to add a bit of conditioning to their hair, even if it is only for a special occassion.

After lots of hassle with my frizzy hair I finally discovered T & G no kinks smoothing balm.... WOW!
I have tried this product on both damp hair and towel dried hair, its not the nicest smell but you can't smell it when its dry.
Blow-drying was easier and gave straighter results which meant I didn't need to do the tedious job of straightening my hair. And it actually stayed looking pretty good most of the day, which makes a pleasent change!
The packaging is quite funky and is in a foil-type, screw-capped bottle. It's strong and can be stored flat or upright, making it non-bulky in your bathroom cupboards.
This product does fight well against humity but be really carefull, only a little is needed if not you end up with greasy rather than lush hair!
You can use it on dry hair as well to tame the extra frizz that may appear later on in the day.
**WHAT DOES IT DO**
This is a balm which you put into your hair for sleeker, straighter, less fizzy looks. There are anti-humidity agents in it to hep reduce frizz and it helps seal cuticles in an instant. It gives your hair a glossy look and it looks better as the split ends aren't as visible. It also helps detangle your hair, leaving it look smoother and healthier.
**DIRECTIONS OF USE**
This product can be used on wet or dry hair. You put a small blob into your hand and rub it through your hair from root to tip. Make sure you put extra on the tips of your hair as this is where the most split ends are and the hair will be most damaged here. Then once you have rubbed the balm onto your hair and carefully comb through adding more as needed. With wet hair the salon tip is to blow dray using a brush directing the flow down the hairshaft after you have added the balm. When your hair is dry you put a small amount as and when needed onto the damaged hair.
The balm itself has a slight smell to it but it's a fresh smell and you don't smell it once you have put it onto your hair. I can not stress enough to put small amounts onto your hair at any one time as it can make your hair get greasy if too much is used. I tend to sometimes just put it onto the ends of my hair, Its consistency is slightly thicker than hair gel and a small amount can easily be spread about your hair using a comb. My hair is long (longer than shoulder length) and at any one time I would not use any more than 3 or 4 small blobs and my hair is in very bad condition.
The packaging is very simple as the name tends to sell the product on their reputation alone. It is in a foil container which you squeeze to get the product out. There is a small cap which is just the right size to squeeze out a small blob. There is Toni & Guy written on the front in red block capital, with any other writing in red except for what the product does and this is in silver writing. The rest of the packaging is pure white. On the back there is directions and ingredients which is written in black so it stands out and is easy to read.
You can buy the sachets in various sizes 50ml which costs 1.59 pounds in boots and there is a larger size of 200ml costs 6.99 pounds. The 50ml size last me roughly 2 months but I don't use it every day or every time I wash my hair. The only problem I have with the packaging is that if you leave it in a drawer that has anything remotely sharp it pierces the foil and the packaging busts. This wastes the product as it is constantly leaking out and making a mess of everywhere.
Propylene glycol, Aqua (water), Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclotetrasiloxane, Hexylene glycol, Phenyl timethicone, Dimethiconol, Glycerin, Polyacrylamide, Phenoxyethanol, C13-14 isoparaffin, Parfum (frangrance), Methylparaben, Laureth-7, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Butylpheny methylproprional, Hydroxymethyl pentylcyclohexencarboxadehyde, Isobutylparaben, Propylparaben, Hydroxycitronellal, Linalool.
To be honest I don't have a clue about any of the ingredients and if there is anything you should avoid, but you may find this useful.
Personally I think this product is great and it has helped my hair a lot. My hair is in very bad condition, split ends and its impossible to comb when wet and this product helps me get the brush through with minimal additional damage to my hair. I usually use it when my hair is wet and once it dries you wouldn't notice it was in your hair at all. When I have used the balm with dray hair it makes my hair greasy and feel like its dirty. I only use it on the tips of my hair when my hair is dry. I stress again do not use a lot in your hair at once. Less is more as the saying goes and it will make your hair look better. The product makes my hair look in better condition and it is a lot more manageable. It could help straighten out hair, as mine is poker straight naturally I don't know how effect this is. You get a nice shine added to your hair as well which gives you a sleeker look.

As with most Toni & Guy`s products this stuff works a treat, having used many of their hair products in the past this was one I was desperate to try when I came across it because I am a straightening addict. Using my ghd straightners sometimes three or four times a day to make sure that my hair is poker straight simply is not good for my hair so any product claiming to help keep my hair straight sounds good to me.
I bought my first squidgy squeezy pack of this from boots around about two years ago and have never look back, cant remember what I paid for the first one but I now get it from my local hair accessories store for £6.29 for a 200ml packet although I regularly keep an eye on boot`s prices because they often do three for two on Toni & Guy products.
To use this product is very easy simply remove the cap and squeeze out a pea sized blob and run through towel dried damp hair (if your hair is really long apply a little more) then comb it through thoroughly before blow drying and then straightening if required. This will simply make it easier to straighten your hair and keep it poker straight for longer.
You couldn't fail to notice this product if you were looking for it in stores it comes in a squeezy square shaped packet, white in colour with a bold bright red Toni & Guy sign on the front, it will usually be surrounded by other Toni & Guy products which will be just as simple to spot.
Unlike a lot of products which claim to do the same type of thing this one is not sticky or bad smelling in fact you can't tell it's on your hair once you have finished drying and straightening and it actually smells quite nice.
I found this product kept my hair looking straight for much longer, I only now straighten once after washing and that's it for the day, even on long sweaty clubbing nights out my hair stays very smooth and straight so I have to say I am really impressed.
If you want to try this but feel £6.29 is a bit expensive just to try something then it is available in smaller 50ml packs for around £1.69 so you can give it a go without fear of being six pound out of pocket if it doesn't work for you.
