Advantages: Calms frizzy hair down, great for smoothing my curls out.

Disadvantages: Doesn't prevent kinks, not good enough on my straightened hair, only my curls!

I received this Toni & Guy no-kinks smoothing balm in a Toni & Guy gift set I received for Christmas a few years ago. I actually ended up with quite a few of these and so still have some left from my last bottle, as I don't use it everyday and so it lasts me some time.

This smoothing balm is designed for sleeker, straighter looks. It helps seal cuticles in an instant and the anti-humidity agents help combat frizz. The non-sticky formula creates sleek, glossy looks that last. I thought this would be perfect for my hair as I have naturally curly hair and so when I straighten it I need to use some sort of product to help control the frizz and to stop it looking kinky.
To apply you rub a small blob into palms and apply to wet hair from roots right to the ends and the comb through. You can alternatively use this on dry hair to smooth it out even more, but I would only use a tiny amount on dry hair to prevent it from looking greasy.

I used this on my wet hair almost every time I was blow drying it straight. However, I didn't feel that this product alone really helped keep my hair looking smooth. It did seem to control the frizz however kinks seemed to appear in my hair by the end of the day. I was afraid that if I applied any more to my hair then instead it would just appear greasy.

It wasn't until I ran out of the product I used on my curls when I left my hair to dry naturally that I found a purpose for this smoothing balm. I was looking through my stack of hair products that I have collected over the years and decided to apply this to my dry curly hair to see if it would smooth the curls and make them less frizzy. Sure enough it did. I have since been using this balm on my dry curly hair instead of what it is meant for! It does not make my hair look greasy and does weigh down my curls slightly so that they stay in place.

Toni & Guy have since changed the design of their products and so this smoothing balm does not look like this in Boots anymore. It is instead in a purple bottle and is called 'smoothing lotion'. It may be worth noting though that Boots actually design these products themselves and why you will also find the range exclusive to Boots unless you buy it online. My Toni & Guy hairdresser told me that Boots just pay Toni & Guy to use their branded name on the products, and so for the high quality Toni & Guy ptoducts you need to buy directly from Toni & Guy. Not a lot of people know this!

The smoothing balm is priced at £6.99 for 100ml but is currently on offer in Boots at the moment where you can save 1/3 on selected Toni & Guy haircare.

Summary: I use this for a completely different reason, so don't purchase if you want kink free hair.
