Toni & Guy Protein Protection Mist A couple of Christmas's ago I seemed to receive LOTS of Tony & Guy gift sets and am slowly coming to an end of all the pieces. These included mini bottles of shampoos, conditioners and a spray Protein Protection Mist. They were a fab size for travelling and hence why I have not gone through the lot more quickly. Tony & Guy As most people will know, Tony & Guy is a brand of hair salons that started back in 1963, they are now a well known chain and have multiple salons in most cities across the UK and abroad. Personally I am not a big fan of their salons, having been to two and found the prices extortionate for the end result. However I am not averse to using their products, especially since they started selling them on the high street. Protein Protection Mist The bottle of Protein Protection Mist comes in a small and compact bright red bottle with a spray nozzle and pull on and off top to stop leakages and dirt getting into the nozzle. The Tony & Guy branding is on the front of the bottle along with the product description. Care instructions and usage are written on the back. My bottles being from gift sets were 100 ml in size. The protein protection mist is intended to be used to protect your hair from day to day damages that it incurs, such as heat damage - from blow drying and straightening and weather conditions. This really appealed to me because I have bleached sections in my hair which dry out very easily. To use the protection mist you wash your hair as normal, towel dry and then spray a good few squirts of the mist over your hair. You are advised to spray the product about 20 cm from your hair, but who measures this! In order to get the best coverage for my hair I tend to throw my hair over my head and lean forwards, spray a couple of bursts and then throw my hair back and spray more over the top. Because this is a 'mist' spray you get a very even coverage over your head and it feels really light and airy. After applying I blow dry my hair and straighten as usual. The protection mist leaves a nice shine over my hair, without the greasiness that you get with some of these protection products. It also smells nice and leaves a fresh and slightly floral scent through my hair. It definitely helps to keep my hair conditioned and looking and feeling healthy, so all in all a good heat defence product. Another plus with this product is that each spray only releases a tiny mist of the product and so it lasts really well. Tony & Guy products are available in most high street shops - Boots, Superdrug, Semichem etc. and are often on special offers. Unfortunately I cannot find this one for sale anywhere online, but the equivalent retails for about £5 a 200 ml bottle, which is very reasonable. You can still buy these gift sets with this Protein Protection Mist in on eBay. Thank for reading :D
I'm a huge fan of the Toni & Guy range and I primarily use the products for straight hair (aqua coloured products) but I was given Protein Protection Mist as part of a Toni & Guy gift set. This particular product is part of the styling range. I have long thick hair which I regularly blow dry and straighten. The can instructs you to spray onto towel dried hair. It is a heavy spray which would make dry hair quite wet so I find it's best to apply before blow drying. I prefer sprays which you use prior to drying rather than straightening. I feel unless a spray is fairly light although straightening will dry your hair again I still think you can sort of feel it in your hair (maybe that's just me). If I was only straightening my hair I wouldn't use this product. Protein protection mist has a nice smell, like all Toni & Guy products I think, it's quite a fresh smell. I don't use it every day but I do make sure I use it on days I am both drying and straightening my hair. It's a quick and easy to use. I spray it a handful of times all over my hair and give it a minute or two before I blow dry. I've been using it for several months and it feels as though there is about half of the can left so it lasts for ages. With all the things we do to our hair these days (styling, colour, etc) we should really do something to look after it or else the things we do to look good will end up having the opposite effect. The can says 'essential protection from styling damage'. Prior to using this product I can't say I ever suffered from particularly dry hair or anything like that but I did start to think about the damage that drying and straightening was doing. I'm not a scientist so I can't give you a definitive answer on whether it really truly protects your hair but I do feel it gives a little extra smoothness (possibly moisture) to my hair when I use it. It's not the be all and end all to smooth, straight and sleek hair as I do feel the Toni & Guy shampoo and conditioner contribute more to that (see my other reviews). I usually buy my Toni & Guy products at Boots however as I have mentioned in my other review Toni & Guy seem to be changing their range. This particular range only seems to be available on their website (possibly at their salons, I haven't checked) these days and the product availability seems to be reducing so it appears they are phasing it out. I am disappointed at this as the products I currently use really work for me and they don't seem to have like for like replacements for them. However based on my opinion of their current products I will be trying out their new ones. Overall on Protein Protection Mist it wasn't something I worried about needing prior to using it (although maybe I should have been) but it has become part of my routine which I do feel is necessary. Like I said before it's not everything but it's that little extra. **** I have since tried their new Protection Mist and I believe it is worth the extra star that this product is missing.
I've been using this product for a couple of months as I blowdry my hair nearly every day and like to feel that I'm protecting it from the worst of the heat damage. I've used various sprays, balms and serums over the years but this one appealed to me as it claims on the packaging to 'Help prevent styling damage, condition and detangle hair for more manageability.' My hair is shoulder-length and quite fine and straight but gets flyaway after washing, and I do have quite a few split ends. However I don't like to use anything too heavy on my hair that weighs it down or makes it greasy. This product costs £5.49 for 250ml in Boots but is also available in some supermarkets, Superdrug etc, and is sometimes on 3 for 2 or 2 for £10 making it slightly less pricey. This product is just one of many in the Toni & Guy range, and is in the characteristic red and silver packaging which looks quite stylish and in keeping with the 'high end' feel of the brand. It comes in a red metallic can with a frosted plastic cap, and has a pump spray (rather than an aerosol). All the text is in silver but is still quite easy to read against the red. It is designed to be used on damp hair, after washing and before styling with a hairdryer or straighteners, and I use it nearly every morning after towel-drying my hair. It is easy to spray and just the right amount comes out in a few squirts - it's best to concentrate on the ends rather than weighing down the roots. It has a very pleasant smell which is hard to describe but just smells classy and clean, like a nice hair salon, adding to the high quality feel of the product. I can tell the difference immediately after drying my hair when I've used this, compared to when I haven't used anything. It feels much more soft and manageable, less flyaway and looks sleeker and shinier (but not greasy, unless I've used too much or too near the roots). The fragrance lingers for most of the day too, which is nice. And it doesn't need washing any sooner, which is a downside of some similar products I've tried. All in all, I'm very happy with this product. It does the job and doesn't cost the earth. Recommended.
I have naturally poker straight hair which is great but as soon as I get any shape cut into my hair some layers flick out and some under so I inevitavly have to straighten the ends. I had noticed recently that the ends of my hair had become quite dry and were beginning to split. It doesn't help that I keep forgetting where I've put my heat protection spray so i went out looking for a new one. Whilst in Boots I stumbles across the Toni & Guy range which had any 3 products on offer for £10, what a bargain considering the Protein Spray retails at £5.49 for a 200ml spray. I have had mixed reviews with this rnage in the past but decided to try it out, as years had past since I had last tried their products. As you can see from the above picture it comes in a classic T&G red tall chunky tin. I've never really liked the packaging as they are a bit cold and industrial to look at, I much prefer the pretty colours and pleasant bottles of the Charles Worthington range. The bottle is light but not the nicets thing to hold. To be honest I was a bit baffled by this spray. On one hand it claims to be a protein spray but it also claims to have heat protection. I wasn;t quite sure what its main use was. I have used Label M protein spray in the past, which is simply to improve the hairs condition by adding protein, butI have also used classic heat and straightener spray. As the directions told me to spray on towel dry hair I assumed the heat protection must be against blow drying as no where on the bottle did it say it was suitable for straightening your hair. I followed the directions and held the spray 20cm away and sprayed lightly. It felt really light and almost invisiible in my hair, not dry or sticky, just nice. It had a subtle smelln which was quite pleasant and not harsh at all. I blow dryed my hair as usual, not knowing what to expect. My hair felt silky and very soft as the spray helped to detangle and almost condition my hair. This helps make it easier to straighten my hair, however I don't think it provides as much heat protection as I need from my GHD's. If you want healthier soft, tangle free hair this product is great, if you want full heat protection against GHD's and stylers, then look elsewhere.
Toni & Guy Protein Protection Mist! I have been using heat to my hair almost every day since straighteners were invented- well since I first started going to high school which is quite a long time ago! I use GHD's which is okay but I also have bleached blonde hair which is not too good! I try to use protection spray almost every time I straighten my hair or style it. This spray has come in very helpful and I think I am addicted to it! This is Toni & Guy Protein protection spray which is essential protection for styling damage. This helps to achieve salon style which is what we always like! I always think that I can never get my hair the same as the hair dressers do but this helps that! This has active protein in it and a heat protector to help prevent styling damage but, this also conditions and detangles for shinier more manageable hair! This comes in a 200ml red can which a plastic lid to spray. The product is in liquid form so it does get your hair wet which can be a little bit annoying if you are about to straighten your hair. You are supposed to put this onto towel dried hair but I like it better when my hair is dry as I find it more effective and it does its job better! I find that this product does really help my hair and I have seen an improvement in the condition of my hair. The split ends are gradually getting better which has also been improved by cutting them off too! My hair is definitely softer now than it has ever been which is great. This is available to buy from Boots for around £5.00 which is quite expensive but it is worth it! Holly x
I got this 'Protein Protection Mist' product in a Toni and Guy 'prep. set' gift pack. It came along with a similar product: the 'Iron-It Heat Defence Spray'. Although both sprays claim to protect against heat damage, I use this product when drying my hair with a hair dryer and the 'Iron-it' for when I'm straightening my hair with irons. This 'Protein Protection' comes in a large, heavy 200ml size (6.7 US fluid oz.) red can with a pump spray dispensing top. It is easy to use and the liquid squirts out evenly into a fine mist. The aroma is fresh, clean and powerful and reminds me of artificial coconut and a blend of exotic fruits. The packaging claims include the fact that this product contains an "active protein and a heat protector". It also claims to be able to detangle and condition hair. The directions for use simply instruct to apply this to towel dried hair. When applied, the liquid feels thin and watery. It is not sticky and is easy to comb through. It coats my hair with a fine layer and when dry seems to have left a conditioning, shiny protection over the hair shaft. Used in this way, the product is very similar to John Frieda's 'Frizz Ease Leave In Conditioning Spray'. I would say that Toni and Guy has the edge, though, as the smell is a lot richer and radiates from the hair even when dry. Also since this product primarily protects from styling damage in addition to the conditioning factor, you also get a lot more for your money. On my dry hair, the end result is quite subtle and this product feels light enough to be able to add heavier styling products like mousse, serum or hair-spray to hair if I need them. My hair feels smoother and looks more radiant after using this. It is also easier to comb the knots out of my hair after washing it when I apply this product.
After being impressed with Toni & Guys offering in the shampoo and conditioner stakes I ran out of my usual heat protection spray. It's the one thing I use most days and for majority of the time although I do own and occasionally use other kinds of products (see my other reviews) some days all I use is a good heat defence spray and that's all. Cos it's the only product I use it needs to be a good one and I look for lots of effects, I'm a very demanding woman! So I look for a product that not only protects my hair, but also helps make my life easier in the way of styling and of course my quest for shine never stops. I wasn't sure about this product and actually picked it up and put it in my basket and then I put it back and then I went re fetched it and I was really undecided cos it's not called a heat protection spray it is called Protein Protection Mist!. The Packaging.... It comes in a 200ml recyclable bright red tin with a white sprayer and a frosted white see throughish cap. It has silver writing on it telling me exactly who the product is by and what it is and tells me in black writing that it's 'essential protection from styling damage'. On the back tells me to 'achieve salon status style with the right products and tools from Toni & Guy' It tells me directions for use, gives me a warning, ingredients and contact details for Toni & Guy. The photograph at the top of this review is exactly the same as the can I'm talking about and the one I own! It looks very professional and I personally love the packaging of all the Toni & Guy products. To Use... Shake can well. Hold upright and at least 20cm (8in) away from your hair. Spray liberally on towel dried hair. Verdict.... I really didn't know what to expect from this product. As I mentioned the thing that made me sway towards buying it was already being impressed with other offerings from Toni & Guy and how quiet and understated they are. None of the products make outrageous claims and they just quietly go to work and do as promised and I hoped this would do the things I expected! I washed and conditioned my hair as normal and sprayed a very liberal amount over my hair. It felt like I'd sprayed nothing on it. Not dry or sticky and not conditioned or anything else. I combed my mop through and dried my hair with a low heat with my trusty hairdryer. My hair after using this product looked calmer and not so waywood. Frizz had calmed down alot but at this stage of styling was alot better than usual. Hair had body and movement and felt soft but still not so soft I couldn't continue my styling regime. Hair at this stage looked shinier than usual too and overall my hair looked in very good condition and had some life and body in it. What it didn't help with was straightening my hair which is what this product doesn't offer. So I went to work with my straighteners. I noticed it wasn't as hard work as usual and my hair obeyed my command to go straight. Frizz disappeared and hair went silk like. What was impressive is usually as I have greasy roots I normally end up with straight to the mid section and thicker ends. However this matched all my hair up into one sleek do but still giving it body and movement and a very natural appearance. I ended up with hair that doesn't just look smooth it felt it. After the process of straightening my hair looked very shiny and had a slight floral fragrance to it but nothing too overpowering but most noticeable was the salon look I'd created. My style looked fresh and rejuvenated. My choppy bits of hair looked very defined and hair looked like I believe hair should and not at all fluffy. This product works long hours too. I find it kept working all day long letting my hair look healthy and shiny. It kept it straightened and it was the only product I had on my head at the time and I liked not having to use hairspray or anything else with it so hair felt clean. You don't need loads of this product just a spritz all over. It's a great little worker without fuss and much underrated. I shall purchase it again as it's one of the most simple products that I own that gives great results! £5.49 Boots.
