Disadvantages: Felt like I had caked my hair in styling products
I have quite long coloured hair which for quite a few years has been highlighted. I have recently started to colour it brown instead, as I was basically fed up of it having quite a matt finish and feeling more like a brillo pad than hair. I have always used a leave in conditioner aswell as a wash out variety, as it's only really the last two to three inches of my hair that require additional help, and with a leave in conditioner I can target these areas separately, without making my entire head look like a greaseball.
I generally tend to buy spray leave in conditioners, but as I was craving additional shine to my now brunette colour, I decided to go for a more expensive cream version.
As i'm not one for wasting money, I decided to try the mini version of Toni & Guy's rapid response leave in conditioner. The blurb says that the conditioner is deeply moisturising and that it will target the dry, frizzy and damaged areas by restoring hydration and and protecting split ends. Thus this should leave you with smooth conditioned hair.
The directions for use are to apply a "generous amount" of the conditioner to the end of your hair and comb through. You should then continue to dry and style your hair in the usual way.
I followed the directions and added a large walnut sized amount of conditioner to the ends of my hair and then combed it through. The comb went through my hair quite easily and I had high hopes for the product. However as I began drying my hair, it felt really strange and almost sticky. I always dry it in sections, working from the bottom to the top and pile the wet part on top of my head until I am ready to dry it. I found that the hair at the ends of the top section seemed to be drying into sticky mess well before I could get to them and I was having to drag the brush through them just to get them apart before I could start drying the roots downwards.
Once my hair was dry, it actually felt in worse condition than before, as the ends still felt sticky and as if I had applied loads of styling products to my hair.
In order to give the product the benefit of the doubt, I used it again when I next washed my hair and made sure that I didn't use any other products with it (i.e. heat protection spray), but it made no difference at all and my hair still felt like an overstyled sticky mess.
I'm certainly glad that I didn't buy the full sized version of this product. I'm sure that other people may not have the same results as me as all hair types vary. I would however say proceed with caution and perhaps buy the trial sized version first, just incase.
Summary: Didn't work for me, but may help other people.
