Advantages: It does leave hair soft

Disadvantages: nothing special, price

I wrote not so long ago about the Toni and Guy Straight and Protect shampoo which I had used on holiday and continued to use when I got back, and thought it was about time I told you about the matching conditioner!

The conditioner comes in a tall turquoise coloured bottle with the Toni and Guy logo written down the side. I think the packaging looks quite modern -especially when standing next to the shampoo which comes in a similar silver bottle.

The bottle states that this conditioner gives 'gentle conditioning for heat straightened hair'. I have rather uncontrollable frizzy hair, and I don't know where I'd be without my GHD's, however on the downside, I know they cause a lot of damage, so it's nice to use a product which is especially for straightened hair. I was, like with the shampoo, a little concerned by the word 'gentle' being used in the description, as my hair is long and thick and needs something quite strong to get it feeling smooth.

On pouring the conditioner out, you will see that it is white in colour and quite thick, which is good as runny conditioners are rarely strong enough to sort my hair out. It has the same smell as the shampoo only I would say a little stronger. It's difficult to put my finger on exactly what it smells like, but it's a fresh, clean sort of a smell that's pleasant enough.

Once on the hair, they advise to leave it two minutes before rinsing. Although two minutes is not a long time, I must admit that this bugs me slightly, as I prefer to just wash and go - I don't always have two minutes to spare!

When rinsing I've found that this leaves my hair feeling a little coarse. I mentioned in my review of the matching shampoo that the shampoo tangled my hair up quite a lot, and although I found that this detangled my hair sufficiently, straight after rinsing, it doesn't feel as smooth or silky as I would expect.

Once dry however, the coarse feeling I get after rinsing disappears thankfully. My hair is left soft, and it is completely detangled - fantastic given how knotted the shampoo made my hair. I also have noticed that my hair seems to have a bit more bounce after using this, however in terms of appearance, it doesn't appear to enhance shine.

On a more negative note, like with the shampoo, I have found that after using this product my hair seems to become greasy quite quickly.

At £5.29 250ml this is not the cheapest conditioner on the market, but nor is it ridiculously expensive. I do think though at that price I would expect something of a higher quality. The results I get from this product are good - soft and detangled - but a cheaper conditioner would achieve the same results, so I will not be buying this again.

Summary: OK but I won't be purchasing another

I've never been overly impressed with Tonu&Guy products....

I must be out of touch with what decent "product" costs these days but anything north of a fiver for 250ml does seem expensive. Well reviewed 8^)
