Advantages: Gets hair clean
Disadvantages: Hair seems to become greasy quickly after use, pricey considering it's nothing special
This was another one of my holiday toiletries and I decided to finish the bottle off when I got back, rather than waiting for my next holiday as God only knows when that will be! I have used a few Toni and Guy products in the past but it is not a brand that I know particularly well. I bought it because it said on the bottle it was for heat-straightened hair, which is what I have.
The shampoo comes in a rather sleek and modern looking bottle which has turquoise writing on the outside. I do like the packaging, it's not fussy and doesn't look too cheap.
It states on the bottle that this provides 'gentle cleansing' something I didn't realise when I purchased it. To me, 'gentle cleansing' would suggest a mild shampoo, and I tend to use a lot of products in my hair, so I was worried that it wouldn't get rid of product build up.
The shampoo itself is clear and a fairly thick consistency. It has a pleasant smell - it's hard to put my finger on what exactly the scent is, but I think it has a slightly coconutty type smell to it.
I found that the shampoo lathered up well, and only a small amount was needed for my reasonably long hair. The problem I had, was that when I rinsed the shampoo out, it left my hair feeling extremely tangled. Obviously having long hair, I have had similar problems before, but never to this extent. I found that I had to use extra conditioner to get rid of the tangles and leave my hair feeling smooth again.
After using this my hair was clean and felt soft, so I needn't have worried about it not getting rid of product build up. It also seemed to add a bit of shine which I was pleased about.
Unfortunately, however, I have found that after washing with this product my hair seems to become greasy quite quickly. At first I thought it was the summer sun on holiday making me hot and sticky which was causing it, however I've had the same problems at home. This alone is reason enough for me not to buy this product again, because whereas before I could get away with washing my hair every other day, now I'm having to do it daily. Having long, thick hair which takes ages to dry, this is a big inconvenience for me - not to mention that I am using shampoo at double the rate I was doing, so it will be costing more.
On the subject of cost a 250ml bottle will set you back £5.39 from Boots. Like I said, not good value if you're having to wash your hair more often.
Overall I have felt quite disappointed by this shampoo, and as I have said I will not buy it again. It got my hair clean and it smells nice, but those are its only redeeming features, and so I wouldn't recommend it.
Summary: I'll not be buyin any more

- 03/08/09 I tried the Toni&Guy model.me range not so long ago and their shampoo's also tangled my hair up very badly! I'm really not keen on the Toni & Guy range at all! Nice review. |
