This is a very popular hairdresser on the high street that has been around for years.
A UK based brand that has salons around the world.
Founded by two bothers, Toni Mascolo and Guy, in 1963, they were later joined by two more of their brothers, a real family trade.
This is pure heiritage. From one single salon in clapham to 100 stores world wide.
They were aparently driven by a desire to push boundaries, deliver creativity, quality and consistency to every customer. Something I've sadly not experienced.
There are two platforms here to work from:
PLATFORM ONE[no trains included]
They are still after all these years at the forefront of hairdressing and quite revered. They are well known to be innovaters, they also claim to exceed all industry standards of expertise. From Catwalk to the high end magazines they are the go to people, the ones who set the trend, they can see into the hairdressing future and start hair revolutions[apparently].
They are the biggest sponsership of London fashion week and have partically worked with every big name in fashion under the sun. They even hold a global gathering in Battersea, this is serious stuff here. They have their own academy, give a lot back to charity so on this front they are flawless.
The stores. The high street that carries this name.
Is completely different to the work platform despite their aim to bring the fashion world to the everyday consumer. The words they project on the stores websites state they want to be inspirational, pioneering and passionate. I've visited four different TONI AND GUY stores in London and they are consistent but not in these three ways.
I could find less passionate people, nothing pioneering about any of my four hair cuts, I gave up at the last one. And nothing inspired me to return.
The style of the stores are uniform and consistent.
Clean, edgy, stylish, everything you expect a salon of this nature to be. Funky music, crystal cut videos on the screen and fashion models walking up and down showcasing showstopping hair on the TV
The chairs are controlled to give you more comfort when you hair is being washed.
They then use three to four of thier own products to wash yor hair ready for the cut.
When you're taken to your seat you are asked if you would like a coffee or tea from the snazzy machines they have on the shop floor but not before handing you a card. No, they aren't inviting you back already, they have written the products down they used, which on one hand is good service, but when your handed it and told the products are available to buy on your way out, there's a little extra added pressure.
Thet have fully trained, in-store hair technicians to help advise and create style or a nightmare, one out of the two. I find that you have to be extra firm when saying no, politely of course, because you may end up paying more than you expected, you may need to sell your house or soul to cover it.
The member of staff that colour your hair are also trained by the prestigious L'Oreal colour degree. Which is comforting, you're in good hands, if you are thinking of changing your colour remember to head in a few days before for an allergy test, it saves time.
In most stores there is a 'Strength in style' member from cancer charities to help those affected and needng extra advice and help which I think is ruddy marvelous.
The stores each have promtions on the ranges they have and I would advise you to check their website for these offers. The website is a great guide where you even get to see the team members, and know when you favourite hairdressers is going to be in.
Two stars you say?
My experiences have left me to the point where I have to cross the road when I pass by a Toni and Guy store, I left having one cut the first time, which was fantastic but it went downhill after that, to I stupidly listened to others went for a fourth time and came out crying, literally.
I would never recomend this overpriced salon who thinks way too much of themselves. The staff have, in my opinion, been rude and really self focused. Even if I tell them what I'm looking for they do something completely out of fashion and against mother nature.
Please heed these warnings
I decided to try a different salon to my usual one before my wedding as I was prepared to pay a little bit more. I rang round a few salons and was quoted £42 by Toni & Guy so decided to book it. I have shoulder length layered hair and wanted the layers shorter giving a different shape. I was clear in my description of how i wanted my hair but after the stylist had finished it didn't look any different to when I walked in. Not a great hair cut and I ended up having it cut again before my wedding. To top it off, when I went to pay I was charged £47. When I argued that I was quoted £42 over the phone I was told quite abruptly that I must've been mistaken and it was definitely £47. I'll certainly never use Toni & Guy again.
For those of you who read these reviews on Toni and Guy, looking for other people's experience's before trying yourself, please don't be put off my the fact that 80% of them are negative reviews. Im hoping that my positive experience will shed a little light on what a great place this is to go. When you visit a hairdresser's, you are trusting them not to make you look like an idiot, and after a very horrible experience with a local done the road, I decided I would invest some money and get what I would now call a professional hair cut. Having paid about £10 for years and years to get my hair done, I didn't really know what to think when I was told that it was going to cost me £25 to get my hair cut at Toni and Guy. But on the flip side, I also knew that for that price, surely I was going to walk out with a hair style exactly as I wanted it to be. And I was right.
Normally I would get home, look in the mirror and start nit picking at what had been done, don't get me wrong it looked ok, but wasn't always completely satisfied. Toni and Guy offer a complete professional service, from the moment you book your appointment, to walking out of the door. The staff were amazing, really friendly and polite. Located on my high street, I rang up, and got an appointment within two days which was great as was in desperate need of a cut. When I turned up, I didn't have long to wait, and when I was finally in the chair, the lovely lady spent about 5 minutes going over exactly what I was wanting, something you don't always get. I knew once I told her how I wanted it to long, that it was going to turn out great. She chatted to me all the through, and I felt like I was talking to a friend.
From the moment I walked through the door to leaving I felt that I had the full attention of the hairdresser. I hate it when you are sitting in the chair and they talk to everyone but you, considering you are their customer at that moment in time. But Toni and Guy are different. I was like many people reading this and other reviews, being put of initially but all the negativity, but I glad that I decided to go ahead with my planned visit.
I was amazed with the result, my hair never looked so fresh. I definitely recommend Toni and Guy, and don't worry if your not too sure on what your wanting, as they will help you along, give you suggestions on what would look good and what may work, plus more importantly, what wont work. Be prepared though for the higher prices than you would typically find at a independent hairdresser's. They are comparatively higher, but you definitely get what you pay for, friendliness, quality and more importantly, a smile on your face.
Started working in Carlisle and decided to try Toni & Guy as they're very close to where I work.
Absolutely disgusting service, the girl doing my hair was very rude and kept looking away to see what her colleagues were chatting about. During the wash she got shampoo in my eyes, during the dry... well, I'm lucky to have any hair left because she was yanking her hand through it instead of blowdrying properly with a brush. THEN THE CUT...... this was absolutely horrific! I asked for a full fringe to be cut in, she had me lean back and then she kept running her scissors across my eyelids. I don't know why, perhaps she wasn't trained, but because she cut my hair after she'd dried it I had ALOT of hair stuck to my eyelids and rest of my face. I paid and left feeling more like I'd been butchered than treated to a nice haircut (Toni & Guy charge double what I've paid elsewhere so I was really expecting something nice!).. Was mortified when I got to a mirror and saw that she'd let me leave absolutely caked in hair.
The girls in there are your usual stick insects with zero customer service skills.
I would rather cut my own hair with blunt garden shears than go back!
I have been going to Toni and Guy Southport now for many years (7 to be exact) and have seen the highs and the lows. Thankfully I am now experiencing the highs once again.
Initially I had been very pleased with the quality of hair cut and colour I had received but sadly as time went by I noticed a significant drop in the attention to detail and was starting to think my time with Toni and Guy was coming to an end but that's when the new management from Toni and Guy Preston came in. Overnight this salon was resurrected from the dead and is actually now better than it ever was.
The service is now 5 star, the atmosphere is fantastic and the staff have been reinvigorated giving me the best all round experience I have ever received in a hair salon.
Congratulations to them all and thank you so much for making it possible to love my hair again

I recently had my hair cut and dyed at Toni & Guy in Cheltenham. I had never been to Toni and Guy previously to this, but I was under the impression that Toni and Guy were a reputable salon and therefore I was confident in giving them a try. The Salon was in Ormond Place in Cheltenham which is in a nice area and in the centre of town and so convenient to get to. I had to wait a few days for an appointment, but that seems about standard for a local hairdresser. My initial impressions were really good when I walked into the salon because it looked sleek and stylish which black leather chairs and glossy magazines a-plenty. I was seen to my chair and was offered a hot drink - and I opted for a latte - which was complementary.
My stylist seemed to be professional and was willing to listen to what I wanted and also offered her opinion - and actually made suggestions which I found to be really helpful because she had good ideas. There were a good range of shades to choose from and we came to a joint decision regarding what colour would work best. When the colouring was done my stylist ensured constantly that I was comfortable and kept me updated as to how far we were through the process. When I was taken to the sink to have my hair rinsed, the stylist gave me a lovely head and shoulder massage with water that was just the right temperature - and this was very relaxing and an enjoyable experience. The colour actually came out well and has lasted for the last 8 weeks with very little fading.
I did find the cut a bit more stressful because the stylist did cut off more hair than we had agreed. However, the style itself was really nice.....I just would have liked it more if it had been left a little longer. When I conveyed this to her she did apologise and said she would make a note of it for my next visit.
The cost was fairly expensive as it cost me £95 for the cut and colour. While I was mostly pleased with the end result and with the experience, I am not sure I will be returning to Toni and Guy because I'm not sure they were any better than my local independent salon that I use regularly.
I had a scheduled appointment for 11:15 with Ashley at Toni & Guy at Fairview, Texas, and was never worked on after one hour. Other than I am sorry, she's delayed with a client's long hair, no intelligent excuse was forth coming. What a disappointment! And definitenly no client consideration was given, so after one hour, I was complelled to leave, as my time is too valuable. Ashley at Toni & Guy never came to an agreeable fix to this problem of definitely poor, lack of service.Disappointed in McKinney, Texas.
I went to toni & guy expecting a premium, quality haircut, however, what i did experience, was someone who knew how to cut hair completely straight with no layers and no style. How can toni & guy possibly be leading in the hairdressing business? The haircut that I got was absolutely appalling and required me at the last minute on a Saturday to go and get my haircut at another local hairdressers. I will never go back to Toni & Guy. I was thoroughly disappointed and will now have to spend many weeks growing my hair back out, only to have to go and have it cut again in order to resume my previous style. In closing, if you want a bad haircut for £35 then this is the place to go. You will not be disappointed by the fact that you are offered drinks but then will be gutted when you walk out and realise that your hair has been butchered by morons.
Hey its not just customers who get treated badly at Toni & Guy. There is a franchise in Limassol Cyprus where the trainees are poorly paid, paid late, dont get breaks or holidays and they really do get bullied by the managers.
When they start their apprenticeships they are told they will be on a reduced salary to cover the 5000euro fee for training at the acadamy. They are told training can be completed within 12 months if they work hard at it. These KIDS are working over 205 hours a month and getting 318euros. I know at least one trainee who has been stuck like this for several years as they have not been allowed to go to the academy for any training.
Dont forget trainees get all the good jobs, cleaning the floors on their hands and knees with a little scrubbing brush, going out in heavy rain to get the senior staffs lunches for them, I could go on but I think you get the picture...
I have pointed all this out to Toni & guy head office but it looks like they dont give a toss about it as this is only a franchise.
This is not written by a disgruntled ex employee, I have never and would never work for this company.
When i arrived the salon looked nice enough, it was clean and tiny and had a very sleek design. The problems started as soon as i walked to reception... There was a blonde girl caked in makeup and i told her i had an appointment at 3 but she replied 'what' so i had to repeat myself 3 times she then said 'take a seat' no offer of a drink or anything at all. Then it came to half 3 and my stylist was still finishing his last client! They said he wont be long and got me a gown and took my coat then sat me in a chair next to the client my stylist was finishing off. He came over and asked what i wanted i said a trim off the length and layers, i also wanted a full fringe. So he said okay and left to finish off his client. Another 30 minute wait and i got told to come over to get my hair washed. It was horrible! The guy who done it seemed to be in a rush attacking my knots with a comb, which wasnt a nice feeling! No head massage and he took 5 minutes to do it without asking me if the water was okay, it was freezing! He then said go and sit in my chair the stylist wouldnt be long. He didnt even comb my hair through after washing it as another girl who worked at the front desk (not the blonde one) came over and combed it through for me saying that she thought that it looked a state so she thought she would do me a favour. Another 30 minute wait with wet hair and i was getting restless and bored of people telling me not long now. When he did finally finish his client he came over and started cutting the ends of my hair off and went over what i wanted again. So he dried it to do my fringe which he done right infront of my face with scissors, it took him about 10 minutes and he straightened my hair and sent me on my way, the cut looked nice enough but i was so fed up of being in there and my boyfriend was waiting with our 14 week old baby in a cafe for me so i just wanted to leave. The blonde receptionist just took the money out of my hand and said thanks, i didnt even have chance to thank the stylist as he was going out that night so seemed in a rush and that showed in my hair! He cut alot off the lenght, put no layers on it at all and the fringe could have been done better by a 5 year old! The service, atmosphere and customer care was horrible! I seriously will not be going here again! Worst experience that i have ever had with a hairdressers! Do not use this salon
After visiting the new Tony & Guy salon in Lichfield on two previous occassions with my children, on both trips very happy with their trims, prices more than child haircuts elsewhere but that's what I expected for a premium branded salon I decided to use them myself for a long overdue cut.
Booking of the appointment a week before was fine with no problem, able to book when I wanted at a time that was suitable, unsure of the stylist I was "allocated" having never used the salon before, I believe they were a senior stylist - Cut & blow dry £40.00
Arrived at the salon at the given time, very quiet, and was shown to a chair, my stylist emerged from what was presumably the staff room and a brief consultation commenced where my thoughts about how I wanted my not quite shoulder length bobbed hair to be cut. I explained that I wanted something simple to keep, not too much off the length but that my hair needed tidying up somewhat. Some layers were discussed and a long fringe!
Washing then took place in the massaging chairs, a pleasant enough experience and then back to the chair for the cut to be started. During this process general chit-chat commenced and I was advised that Tony & Guy have their own training schools where all the stylists go, they apparently all learn the "same cuts" (there is someone out there with the same cut as me!). Once the cut was finished I was advised that the best way to dry my hair was to scrunch it, this because my hair is ever-so-slightly wavey.
Well, I left the salon looking like I had been dragged through a hedge backwards, then forwards and finally backwards again I was horrified, but what do you do! On reflection I should have told the stylist when she asked how I thought it looked, maybe I'm too polite? Anyway, my crown & glory has been scrunched before and so I thought "I can wash this myself and dry it my way".
I was hurried to the cash desk, handed over to a colleague who relieved me of my £40 and the stylist retreated to the door, one assumes the staff room, presumably to await the next victim.
Oh no! Next day washed my hair and dried it "my way" but again I look a mess, it's sort of layered and shortish at the back and looks like a normal bob at the front, can't help wondering if she insisted on scrunching 'cause she knew she'd made a mess and needed to cover it.
On the whole I felt the whole experience was very expensive for what I got - a mess, and now I have to pay out more to have sorted out. At nearly 45 years of age I have always been brought up and indeed believe that you get what you pay for, on this occassion I don't believe this is true.
I attended one of the Toni & Guy salons in Lancaster for the first time. I thought they would be excellent as they get raving high reviews all the time as being such a top salon!
I wanted an inverted bob and paid quite a bit for a senion stylist to give me an edgey style. I was overall happy with the cut, although it was just a plain bob and not inverted at all. It looked very 60's style but I'm quite happy with a vintage look so I wasn't too let down with this.
I have a natural flick in my fringe, which I explained would be fine once it was dry and straightened down. The stylist cut a large chunk out of my fringe to try and level the flick. When straightened it looked a complete mess and she had to cut the remaineder of my fringe off so it was extra short! Overally I was happy with the look as I'm quite versatile with hairstyles, but overall would not go back as I had a very rude stylist and a bad overall experience.
Had been growing my hair and hadn't had it cut for a year. Explained this to the senior stylist. He proceeded to cut ver short layers which I didn't ask for. My hair looked like an 80's mullet. Had to go somewhere else and pay out again to try and have it put right.All I can now do is wait for the layers to grow. I hate it. My advice is never ever go to this salon.
Worst experience ever!!! My friends recommended the place, my first experience was a haircut at the Toni& Guy salon in Magna Plaza, the staff was rude and very impersonal, the professional who cut my hair didn't even listen to what I wanted and she made layers in my hair which totally ignored my request. It took me months to grow it back to the shape I originally wanted. A few months have passed, and I decided to try the salon on the van Baerlestraat thinking I might get a better service there. I went in for a natural gloss, and an hour later I went out with a colour in dark brown while my hair was originally and naturally blond. Since then, I have dyed my hair 2 times in 2 weeks to be able to bring it back to the original shape, but still no luck. I do not recommend their service, the staff is very impersonal and they do not listen to the clients needs.
