Advantages: Supposed to get a consisent deal with each visit

Disadvantages: Blinded by policies, high staff turn over, pricey, pretencious

I have used Toni and Guy all over the world and it has to be said their service in the UK is very very inferior to anywhere else. To a traveller, Toni and Guy are technically a boon because in theory, you can be assured of a relatively decent hair cut - but not in the UK. My complaints would centre on two things - high staff turnover and stupid pre-hair treatment policies.

(1) Unlike other countries (Australia, Canada, US), the UK Toni and Guy salons seem to be inundated with traveller hairdressers. As such, if you succeed in receiving a good hair cut, the odds are very high that hairdresser will not be there in 6 months time. So, despite relatively high standards, getting hair cut in the UK has resulted in some real disasters and the rule of thumb seems to be the more pretencious, the more centrally located the Toni and Guy salon is locatedand the more pricy it is, the worse the cut you will receive.

(2) If you want hair treatment, ignore the fact Toni and Guy use the same products globally; in the UK they want you to complete a skin test 2-3 days before the treatment. Now if this is the VERY first time you are having dye or some peroxide-based stuff put in your hair, fair enough, but if not, and you've been using Toni and Guy/or hair products for years, then it is stupid.

Worse, if you don't revist their salon within 3 months, they won't book you in without having a skin test again! Thats because (a) your original hairdresser has already moved on no one knows who you are, and (b) they don't keep ANY record they even gave you the test! So they expose you to the inconvenience of having to travel to a store 3 days before the haircut, and then don't bother recording the result.

Quite frankly, I would suggest if you are looking for a hairdresser in the UK, you should be looking for people who own their own salons so you know if they are good, you don't have to suffer a new person experimenting with your hair every few months. And you don't have to endure pretencious, non-sensical policies.

Summary: Poor service and quality in the UK Toni and Guy stores due to high staff turnover and bad policies

In towns such as this (Brighton) Tony & Guy have a lot of competition - ALL of which is cheaper, much of which has a far lower staff turnover. Richard.
