Advantages: Friendly Juniors, they can't do enough for you.
Disadvantages: I wouldn't have a person above a Stylist cut my hair
I had my hair cut at Toni & Guy in Bolton today and I am not impressed at all.
I had an appointment booked at a different salon in Manchester City centre but I thought whilst I was in Bolton I'd get my hair done then and there.
I telephoned to make an appointment and I asked for an appointment with a stylist, I was informed politley there were no stylist appointments available today but I could have an appointment with (and I use this term loosly) a "Top" Stylist for £39.50.
I have had my hair cut before at Toni & Guy Salons by Stylists in Manchester City Centre in 4 Salons;- Deansgate, John Dalton Street, Mosley Street and at the Training Academy and got fantactic cuts so I thought I was going to get something special with a "Top" Stylist.
I arrived 5 mins early for my appointment and was greated by a very friendly receptionist. She asked a Junior to take my coat and the junior came over with a menu of drinks for me to chose from. My coffee was brought promptly before I'd even looked up from putting my glasses away.
So good so far.
The receptionist then telephoned upstairs to my stylist to let them know I had arrived, and was told they'd be down in 10 mins.
They eventually turned up and asked a Junior to show me to a work station before they'd even introduced themselves to me.
I sat down and he came over for a "consultation". I explained I wanted a choppy bob not too much length taking off. Basicly I wanted my tired looking long bob restyling and funking up a bit. I said I was concidering having a fringe put in but I was told my hairline is too strong, fair enough.
After the "consultation" he asked a junior to take me to the backwash and wash my hair etc... she gave me an amazing head massage!!!
Back to the work station.
Straight into the cut I felt him cutting and cutting and cutting the back till it's felt so short he couldn't cut it anymore with sissors. I thought Oh My God whats going on back there!!! Anyway he keeps cutting and cutting. He asks am I OK? I say 'Yes, You?' he reply's 'I'm Concentrating'. I thought oh ok, no chat then. He then cuts the sides of my hair then tickles the front of my hair with the sissors.
He drys me off, I could have blow my hair better myself, it was frizzy, my hairs never ever been frizzy in my life. It was like they couldn't wait to get me out of there. Anyway, he plasters my hair in products.
Why am I dissapointed I hear you ask? Well its a very short BLUNT, GRADUATED, SLEEK bob, NOT choppy, NOT funky and far too short. He didn't listen to me at all. He's done a good cut even though it's not what I wanted.
You can take hair off but can't put it back on. He knew I wasn't happy but he didn't say a word to me. He made me feel uncomfortable and inferior to him. I reluctantly handed my card over to pay. I will never ever be going back to Toni & Guy Bolton. It'll be Manchester Salons only in future.
Summary: Good Cutting technique, they should teach their staff to listen to the customer.

- 02/05/08 Sorry you did't get what you asked for i find some hairdressers try and do it how they think you should have it and not how you want it.
I have started getting my hair cut at my local asda's this year, I have the same girl each time and she is the first person who has ever been able to cut my hair how i want it and not have to start cutting it when i get home to sort out the mistakes.
Before this I used to just cut my hair my self at the sides and just got my mum to cut the lenghth at the back. |
