Advantages: cheap - as a model, latest looks in hair, well trained polite staff, honest staff - I overhead one tell a customer that a hairstyle would not work for her!!!
Disadvantages: shampoo smells like beetroot!!!, expensive if you want a qualified member of staff
My friend lives in London and has recently had a drastic change of style thanks to her local Toni and Guy. I was sorely tempted to nip into my local until I found out how much they charge. It was then that I found off their website that they are always looking for models. Well that was all I needed to push me into a new hair cut. I phoned my local branch and made an appointment with one of their trainees for a haircut for which they said the price would be £8. Sounded like a bargain to me. So the day comes and in I march with a picture of how I wanted my hair to look. I talked the style over with the trainee (who qualifies in the next couple of months so I was more than happy to let her loose with the scissors). The trainee agreed the style would work on my hair and double checked with her trainer who gave her the go ahead. I then had to sign a model release form to say I knew I was being treated by a trainee and that it would take longer etc etc. I was taken to the sinks and had my hair shampooed twice - one of the shampoos smelt alarmingly like beetroot!!! I was then treated to a deep conditioner before being rinsed off. When I was sat in front of the mirror with my hair combed out and some leave-in conditioner applied the hairdresser said she had an idea and showed me a picture of a hairstyle she felt would really suit my face shape and hair type. It looked good so I agreed with that. At this point I was offered one of a selection of free drinks - tea, coffee, water, juice, beer, wine etc. The cutting started and she was very reassuring showing me where she was cutting and how much and explaining what she was doing. For my cut the length was cut with wet hair it was then blow-dried straight and the style was but in dry. I was "channel-cut" "razored" and some other things. Each step was described and its effect explained which I found very professional. The fini
shing touches were put in with some wax and shine spray and I was told how to get the same effect at home. My hair looks great and I have had loads of people admire it. I was well looked after and got something way different for very little outlay. I was also given a leaflet showing all the products used and their prices in case I wanted to make a purchase. No hard sell just friendly recommendations. Would I go to Toni and Guy again? You betcha I would - but only as a model I couldn't bring myself to pay full price!!! Overall an excellent experience on a budget.

- 15/05/02 It would have been better had you had more experience of Toni & Guy i.e had your hair cut by a fully qualified member of staff, but an interesting op nonetheless |
