Advantages: A few good colour technicians, A few good stylists, Beautiful salons
Disadvantages: The price, Waiting lists, Differing abilities
Previously i had posted a glowing review of Toni and Guy. For two years i had been a regular visitor to their Bristol branch of Toni and Guy where i had appointments with one of their senior colour technicians in order to turn my red hair blonde. I would visit the salon every eight weeks to have full-head highlights at a price of £85 and would occcasionally have my long hair trimmed at a cost of £35. The service was brilliant, with attentive staff constantly ensuring that i had everything i needed in the way of magazines and beverages; the surroundings were beautiful with minimalist chrome and glass - but most importantly i was able to place total trust in my colour technician. Imagine my horror when i learnt she had left (gone to another salon, the name of which they refused to give me). I booked an appointment with another technician and also a cut with one of their many stylists. The results are abissmal. I asked the technician for a mixture of intergrated blonde and ginger highlights, the blonde shade being my regular shade of choice and the ginger shade being a light red colour a la Nicole Kidman. The highlights came out blocky, the two shades stubbornly refusing to blend together, the ginger shade gone horribly wrong - turning out in a muddy aubergine shade. The colour technician appeared somewhat oblivious to the intended shade and the reality before her - a brilliant actress! Then the cut. Having entered the salon with long blonde hair, and having asked for a little of the bottom i ended up having had four inches off the bottom and choppy layers. I asked for a cut that would provide body, the layers simply make the hair look thin and flat - a problem which is highlighted by the dire colour. In conclusion, i had for two years believed Toni and Guy to be a brilliant salon, my experience has however taught me that this was down to mere luck of the draw in relation to the technicians and stylists that one visits - with such
differing standards of ability within the salon you perhaps take more of a risk than ought to be the case with a salon with such an expensive pricing structure. My "new look" cost me £107...so far, i have another equally expensive appointment booked to rectify the situation.

- 23/07/02 Very good op, I went to T&G last year and got a trim for 30 quid, it does seam a bit extreme but it was worth every penny.:o) |

- 19/07/02 I think I'd rather pay my £5 quid and get the same thing from a T&G student (I've op-ed on my experiences)But nevertheless I'd never go with anything other that Toni and Guy now...!

- 18/07/02 I do agree with 21stCF & alhow but I don't quite understand this statement
"At the last salon I was charged £45 for half-head highlights and now at T&G I am charged £60 (an increase in price but I get double the number of highlights)." double the number of highlights on the same amount of hair? doesn't make much sense really.
If you are going to churn out several ops a day (and I'd probably recommend you don't because the users of the site aren't too keen on it) perhaps researching your product a little more would help people to be more receptive to you. For example, you tell us in this op not to "knock Toni & Guy until we've tried them" but by reading what you've written you'd think they only did highlights. How's about some prices for cuts, styling, do they sell products? Do you get a cup of tea / glass of wine etc etc.
