Advantages: Nowhere can do crazy shit like they do it, Quality service and products

Disadvantages: Ooo pricey, Can be intimidating

This particular chain hair shop is one I choose to visit in Stafford, a fair while back mind, because I was particularly impressed by the stylish appearance of the salon and its clientele. Oh, and my hair was being chopped by some old fool round the corner, whose (flea-ridden, orthopedic shoe wearing) clientele had got a little unbearable.

Good intentions breed…what exactly? Well in my case, many less coins in my pocket, but kudos amongst peers, suitably aghast parents, a swanky haircut and excellent services. Toni and Guy is certainly to be recommended, and I’m a poor student.

What sets it apart, I hear you ask? Professionalism and quality hairdressers, who use quality products, I say. I currently have my hair cut with a ‘Top stylist’, one below Style Director, and one above bog-standard ‘Stylist’. For this I pay £23 and get a free drink (from a reasonable selection), my hair washed, conditioned, rinsed (twice), cut and styled. In doing so, my hairdresser uses several products from the Tigi range (see www.tigi.co.uk) and spends time discussing what ‘he can do for me today’! I have had at least 3 stylists (from Stafford and Leeds), whom all cut my hair admirably. Further, Toni and Guy has a reputation for cutting cutting-edge cuts, incorporating a style that is truly its own (it is quite clear that some haircuts are Toni and Guy haircuts).

There is quite a stigma attached to the place and its cuts that might lead some to question the sexuality of its patrons. Also, Toni and Guy can seem quite intimidating to those used to their local barber fare. I hereby, resolutely quash both such worries – Toni and Guy cuts any haircut, though an asymmetrical mohican might be more customary than a ‘short back n sides’. In addition, its staff are friendly, professional and courteous. Yes, it is expensive: so are its products and additional services (glossing, dyes and like treatments).

But I have found no other comparable place to have my coiffeur pampered.

NOTE: Toni and Guy operates slight discrepencies in its regional pricing. Big cities are more expensive than local towns. Seek student discount or promotional offers to help! Girly cuts are a fair bit more pricey than their male counterpart's

Kimgrahram - it is supposed to read gay, it was a tiny pun. I hope you like it.

Franl - i take that on board, but for me a good brand beats a shit one! I will go back to put some products in

Shazzy - the decor is modern and cleancut, though i admit it wasnt the first thing that came into mind when writing! I'm a bloke, forgive me.

As for being a poor student - i am! Though mummy and daddy help out, which is awfully nice of them; i spend their lira on such fanciful delights :)

We are getting a Toni and Guy (incidentally you might want to edit your title as you have put "gay!") in our town soon.We are quite excited about it. I will let one of my girls go first though, as I am really fussy who touches my hair! Kim :-)

I had my hair cut at Toni & Guy a few years back (when I was a stoodent, ironically) and am often tempted to go back, except, as you said, people know when you've been there, and something inside me just rebels at the thought of having a haircut which other people can identify the 'brand' of. It's quite similar to the other end of the spectrum, the crappy local hairdresser where no matter what you ask for, they give you the one haircut they know (the Lionel Blair, maybe?). Nice op, maybe would have liked a bit more detail though. Which top brand products do they use and sell there, etc? Fran
