Advantages: Guranteed good cut, Great Ideas

Disadvantages: Often give layered cuts

Toni Guy Is one of those places that when you're a teenager you aspire to get your hair cut at, it seems cool and off-limits (well, off-budget for me anyway).... You never really knew why you wanted to go there, it seemed pointless to spend £45 on a haircut that you could get from your local salon for £15, but it was like t-shirts with DKNY plastered accross, a pointless slice of the goodlife, which you could just about afford, but was in realiy no better than a regular t-shirt.
Being a regular customer of Toni and Guy now, I can say that Toni and Guy in fact ISNT like that cheap designer T-shirt (which often stretched out of shape after one wash inspite of the expense and designer name endorsing it), because at least going to this salon means you will NEVER walk out with awful hair- It may not be the style you had in mind, and it might involve millions of short layers that you can't handle on your own with your sub-standard hair dryer, but it will always be well cut and aimed to suit you personally, and will not take them 3 hours of cutting and thinking and blowdrying!

This may not seem like a great feat, but as anyone whos had a dreadful haircut ( and has had to wait a year or so before they can stop tying it back) will testify, its worth the £40, knowing you're not going to walk out in tears.
Many will disagree and recall the story of a friend who walked out with a wacky haircut that was longer on one side than the other etc.... but you have to bare in mind Toni and Guys target audience- If you walk in and ask for something different, they will give you just that, because their general clientel is the young and hip. This isnt to say they don't cater for all ages, it just means you have to be specific and insistant if you only want a regular trim with a one length fringe.

The service (general attitude and courtesy) itself tends to vary from salon to salon. The last time I went (I have never been to the same Toni and Guy tw
ice!) I had a shoulder length bob which was shorter at the back, which i was growing. I said i was open to suggestion as long as it didnt take away from the overall length, and that I'd like to have a colour consultation.
What came out of the whole discussion was a few insults regarding my current hair colour (okay it was a bit yellow, but I like it, and had it done at a very experienced academy in London), a general vague idea of putting a few highlights through it (at the cost of... oooh £90, just for the colour, this she said, was because it was a colour correction?!), and the cut was pretty much a trimmed version of what i walked in with. It was a very NICE cut, but i felt my particular Hairdresser that was bored and couldnt' be bothered because i wasn't a regular client.
Other experiences have been much more positive, and i have had some great cuts, and ideas for my hair from various Toni and Guy staff. Some staff will spend over half an hour talking through different styles and colour with you, and actually give you input and their opinion (most hairdresser seem to shy away from giving an opinion in case you dont like the end result)
All in all i find Toni and Guy very safe, the staff can be arrogant (well the reception staff mostly) and sometimes dismissive, but you will always have a good cut at a price that can often be competitive with local, independant salons, and they are especially great at giving classic hair cuts with a funky edge or twist.

I wish I could afford to go there all the time! I recently went as a birthday treat and they've given me a wicked hair cut!!

I used to like Toni and Guy when I was in my early 20s and was going for funky hairstyles. Now I'm older (and more boring), I stick with hairdressers who do sophisticated, rather than fun, haircuts. Good op!

Far too pricey for me!
