Tresemme 5542U Dryer 2000
Disadvantages: quite heavy
I have been struggling through the last year with hair dryers that haven't quite been up to standard. When my first cheap model of the year finally gave up, I borrowed my eldest daughter's and to be honest that model should have seen the bin a long time ago before I started using it.
A couple of months ago, I spied the Tresemme 5542U Power dryer 2000 in Sainsbury's for the bargain price of £13. Well you can't go wrong at that price, so I decided to give it a go.
Inside the box, you really do just get the hair dryer. There aren't any frills with this dryer, but then for the price I wasn't expecting any.
The hair dryer itself is completely black, a nice design which appears stylish and streamlined. It doesn't look cheap in any way much like some very basic models can.
Immediately I saw it had a long lead, which at 2.4 metres it's much longer than the other hair dryers I have been using, so quite a luxury for me.
Weight wise, I found the hair dryer to be quite heavier than I have been used to. It's not a beast by any means, but it's probably not suitable for frailer people to hold for any length of time.
I have found some dryers to have clumsy controls, which can be badly placed. I was worried about this dryer as I noticed they were on the handle right where the average person will hold the dryer.
So far I haven't found the placing of the controls to be a problem, but I think this is because you activate the dryer by a sliding switch rather than an angled one which juts out of the body of the dryer.
There are two heat settings on the dryer, and one is more noticeably hotter than the other, and if I'm honest a lot more powerful. There is a third option of a cool shot button which is cooler air that sets your hair in place when styled. To be honest I have never found these functions on any dryer to be of much use to me, and this dryer is no different. It's definitely an obsolete option for me.
The one added extra feature that adds to the style and design of the dryer is the removable nozzle at the front of the dryer. This is designed to control the air flow to direct spots on your hair. When you remove this you get a much wider air range which dries your hair quicker but won't help you style in any way. I have found the dryer performs a lot quicker when you remove the nozzle, and for quickness this is my preferred option.
In the past, hair dryers I have used have always glowed quite orange with the heat element when they have been in use for an average period of time on my long hair. This dryer doesn't give off any heat difference in the body after use, nor does it look like it's been used. I have been quite impressed with this, but it is more than likely because it's a newer model of dryer than I have been using.
Overall, you really can't go wrong with this dryer for the money you will pay for it. It has a budget price but provides you a medium range hair dryer.
Summary: a good all round budget dryer
