Advantages: FANTASTIC MEGA HOLD HAIRSPRAY THAT HOLDS YOUR HAIR IN HELMET-LIKE PLACE!
Disadvantages: EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO DRAG IT OUT OF YOUR POOR LOCKS AT THE END OF THE DAY...
I just had to review my 'Once-in-a-lifetime' hairspray find, so I sent a dooyoo suggestion forth and 'Hey Presto' "hair" we are...Sorry, couldn't resist!
Now I have to tell you before we start, that my TRESemme can is white - not the depicted black as on top of the review picture, although the product name is the same 'Freeze Hold extra strong hold'.
As with a lot of items 'TRESemme', they have so many very similar looking products so if I sell the idea of this particular lacquer to you via this review, it is the light can you want not its virtually identical dark family member, just so you are aware!
As with most hair care freaks, I do tend to try a lot of new products as soon as they hit the shop shelves, in the quest for finding 'The One True Love'...you know the one I mean - that certain extra 'something' that makes it inescapably The Love of your Styling Life!
Well babies, this is Mine, all Mine I tell ya!! *Mad Professor-like guffaw echoing around now in the dooyoo background...*
I absolutely adore this brand new creation from the wonderfully usually affordable TRESemme; although on a complete whim I paid the quite expensive price of £1.65 for only a small 100ml tube (74 gram) - and boy am I glad I did, for this is truly amazing stuff indeed!
There were two reasons I chose this small handbag-sized can as it happened when coming across it in my local Wilkos.
Firstly, I wanted to try the smaller version to see if it did what it claimed on the tin - and secondly, I didn't want the larger 400ml canister (RRP of around £3.90-£4.10), as I find them harder to handle when trying to direct the spray to the relevant parts of my stylised, flicked tresses...
Almost everyone has heard the famous original company catchphrase of: 'TRESemme hair products provide professional quality hair care at an affordable price', although its now been radically reduced to 'Professional, Affordable'.
Plus, let's face it the business has certainly carved a successful niche in this area of the toiletries market.
There seems to have been quite an aggressive approach to introducing new generation salon-quality wares into their styling arena, and they have found yet another satisfied customer in me with this innovative long lasting lacquer solution.
Being a fan of pretty much all things TRESemme, the 'Freeze Hold' blue lettering drew me towards the black-topped wide-spray nozzle 'professional formula' can standing around 5" tall; quoting 'fast drying', along with 'no build up' as a couple of its attributes, along with a 'Climate Control 24 Hour Humidity Resistance' on the front of the item.
On the back of the lacquer is a whole host of useful information, including TRESemme's 'Philosophy' of their vision to create a salon standard, yet inexpensive product so the customer can 'experience that salon feeling everyday'
This Freeze set of hairspray that I am reviewing is the maximum level of hold the manufacturer's have come up with so far to provide '...all day control and long lasting strong hold'.
And yes it does indeed as you may well have gathered via the title!
Spraying the lacquer at around 10-12" from my hair as advised on the tin, I have learnt to be very careful at wherever I am directing this super 'setting' spray as once it's on it's a lethal completely plastic helmet on your hair!
Now this is exactly what I am looking for in this type of hair care product - something that sets like indestructible plastic in blustery weather conditions...and believe me this lethal little can does exactly what it professed to do - it 'freezes' your style to within an inch of its life!
Do not, however, spray it near your eyes...Ooh not for the usual irritant issues, although they are of course very important, I'm meaning more for the reason your eyelashes will literally set to your eyelids and you'll be walking round all day with a scarily startled expression on your face...
You think I'm kidding? Well I'm not, it really is that strong!
Not one for perfumed hairsprays at all as they make me feel sick, am not keen on the smell this emits, a positive for me nevertheless, is that it isn't a strong odour once it settled on the hair - like superglue to an ultra-absorbent surface!
As always there is a huge list of chemical additives/ingredients; suffice it to say it contains Butane, Isobutene, and Propane...making it all very flammable so handle with your usual care and read the instructions as always, please.
It also contains a vinyl derivative - Ha, see I told it it's like plastic, that's because it actually is!
Right now to my bugbear which this fantastic product loses one star for, alas...
The product states this is 'fast drying' - and it absolutely is (gawd help any passing flying insects, they've had it, bless 'em!); but the TRESemme also say underneath that it has 'no build up'. Wrong.
On the back it then claims the spray 'Brushes out easily' plus 'Won't build up or flake'. Again wrong.
This stuff is the very devil to get out...think along the lines of needing one of those huge tractor-type diggers with the huge forked front, and you get the gist to what you would actually require to brush the plastic-set solution out properly!
My head actually physically hurts as I tried to free my captured locks from it vice-like grip; although I feel a bit hypercritical saying so as that's the hold I'm paying for - but the product claim really isn't true.
As for the build up - why a tribe of Innuits could use the base as a fortified frozen foundation on my mane as a new place to set up camp for the night!
It flakes like crazy, but common sense says it would, wouldn't it? It is an ultra-strong mixture, thus it's not just going to flake away nicely at the end of the day - it's going to hang on in there and make your comb pay!
I horrifyingly thought I had started with dandruff on first trying to remove/gouge the solidified mist off my tresses - until I belatedly realised it was the TRESemme flakes falling off my head after I started winning the battle to remove its 'freeze' presence...
Phew!
I have to admit I am a complete convert to this wonderful new hair care addition to the TRESemme family, despite its difficult removal from my locks when no longer needed.
I will continue to buy it, and if you are looking for a similar type of product I can wholeheartedly recommend this Freeze Hold lacquer; even, if like me, you give the smaller-sized tube a go first to see if you like it.
Small Tip Though...
*****************
Don't, whatever you do, wear it on a romantic night out. *Bob* the boyfriend, took me for a candlelit meal locally last weekend, and whilst making 'goo goo' eyes at me *Bob* leaned over the table to gently run his nimble fingers through my auburn tresses...and promptly got his fingers stuck!
I don't know who was more embarrassed, me, him or the little blonde waitress walking by...True story *blush*.
Summary: DESPITE IT'S COUPLE OF BAD POINTS I LOVE THIS HAIRSPRAY, IT'S SUPER-SET HOLD DOES THE JOB FOR ME!
