Advantages: The scent, the fact it works and the cost (If you have a Tesco handy.

Disadvantages: Price anywhere other than Tesco.

The gentle breeze blows her hair in a curtain of silk across her face. Slowly she runs her fingers through her shining tresses and reveals her sensuous and dusky eyes looking sightlessly ahead. Both hands seductively lift her hair away from her face and as she moves them up, the locks fall sumptuously like a satin shroud across her shoulders, with a ripple of colour and shine, to her waist…she slowly turns her smouldering eyes towards……..

Hm, Ok, this is for those of us who even with the help of slow motion photography, filters and techniques couldn’t hope to achieve the same result with our crowning glories.

Not having the hair we are shown in adverts for hair care supplies, I thought I’d give a review of my most recent purchase on the basis that my hair, although long, has been used and abused for many years and when it’s put in a ponytail I have to wind the bobble at least once more than I would like. (I end up with more of a ‘rat’s tail and can only dream of a ‘ponytail’).

Still, being influenced by the adverts, despite myself, I decided to change my shampoo and give this Tresemme a try. I bought my Pro Vitamin B5 Healthy Volume Shampoo in my local Tesco store along with my usual shopping and whilst researching for this review I find it was a real bargain.

I paid £3.44 for 900ml of the product as opposed to £2.99 for 500ml being the best I could find on the net. (It maybe worth checking other High Street stores to see if this price can be improved).

Tresemme, products of the Chicago based Alberto-Culver (of VO5 fame, remember?), has previously only been available in Professional Hair Salons but, is now widely available with a good selection of hair care to suit different types of hair. They have a website, www.tresemme.com, that gives a history of the company as well as having a product list.

The plastic bottle it comes in certainly makes you think of Hair Salons with its black (or is it brown? I’m afraid my eyesight as well as my hair is going down hill fast) base colour and silver logos and writing. There is an orange flash too (maybe that’s why I can see brown?) The word ‘Shampoo’ is of a size that even I can see when in the shower without glasses and to make sure mistakes aren’t made, the conditioner is in a white bottle. (Many a time I have used conditioner instead of shampoo to wash my hair!)

The shampoo contains a huge list of ingredients (the first being aqua ) which I could list here but unless you are a chemist, I’m not sure they would be useful information here to influence your decision to buy or not to buy.

On the back of the bottle there is a formula guide that suggests that this Healthy Volume Shampoo, for fine or flat hair, can protect and volumise and that Silk Proteins are used so that the hair won’t be weighed down.
I must say that as I used it for the first time, I did notice the fact that the shampoo rinsed out of my hair very quickly and thoroughly and that was without first reading the information on the bottle that actually promotes this point. (I rarely read the small print on a bottle unless writing a review).
Getting into the bottle was simple even for those of us with long nails. It’s one of those, press this side and the other side pops up revealing a small pour-hole.

The scent hits you straight away and puts me in mind of fruit drinks.
(Warning: don’t drink it!)
It is very pleasant and is a smell that I vaguely remember from my days spent having my hair professionally washed and styled.

The shampoo itself is colourless and of the consistency of a slightly runny gel. You don’t need very much to shampoo your hair and although it doesn’t make huge amounts of suds, it cleans really well. (Do I remember being told somewhere that suds are simply detergent and are not good for your hair?)

Anyway, as I said before the shampoo rinsed very quickly and easily and left my hair feeling really soft. (Even at the ends which usually feel like straw prior to conditioning).

I decided to give this shampoo (in the name of research) a try without using conditioner and duly wrapped the towel round my head. I was really surprised with the results, although I wouldn’t do this again or recommend this to other users. It took a little while to comb my hair through but there were no knots as would usually be the case.

After drying my hair I was pleased with the results and although it was nowhere near a comparison to the adverts, it was shining more than before using this product and did feel very clean and soft.
The directions for ‘volumising’ your hair as shown on the Tresemme website are to use a dryer from the roots etc. etc. So it’s not the shampoo that does it for you! But even though it’s hard to volumise two hairs and a nit, my hair certainly remained looking as if it had just been washed for longer and was still not flat to my head and lifeless looking 3 days later when I washed it again.

Since the first attempt I have used conditioner too but that’s another review for the future.

I think (where do these snippets of information come from?) that any change of shampoo will make a difference to your hair for a while so I will continue to use this product (900ml will last me some time!) and maybe edit this review at a later date.

At this point….

….(her smouldering eyes towards) me and said,

‘Dooyoo like it?’

Thanks for reading.

Summary: Lovely aroma, good price and your hair feels good after using it.
