Advantages: big bottle, smells nice
Disadvantages: negligible heat-defence
Having tried Tresemme shampoos and conditioners and found that, although nice smelling, they did nothing for the quality of my hair, I'd pretty much decided to forget about this brand. However when I spotted this heat defence spray I was swung by the price tag of £2.99 for a 300ml bottle. It seemed considerably cheaper than many other brands, especially for the large container that you get. I knew already I would like the smell, and was also persuaded by the appearance of the bottle - while not particularly 'pretty', it has that salon kind of look that makes me hope I might be able to achieve salon-like results!
Well, I can't say that happened in terms of the effects on my hair, yet I still like using the product because of the smell and, strangely because of the way the bottle looks.
The lack of fantastic results may be because I don't think I use it correctly. The directions on the back tell you to spray it evenly over damp hair, brush it through and style. Although I have done this before, I don't remember looking particularly dazzling afterwards. As I can't usually be bothered with blow-drying my hair, especially as it dries out my scalp so much, I tend to just wait for it to be completely dry, spritz on a bit of this spray, give it a few minutes to dry again, then use staighteners.
I'm yet to decide whether this stuff is protecting my hair, but I suppose it must be, since when I've been through phases of not using any heat-defence product my hair does look dryer and more frazzled than usual. After straightening my hair is relatively smooth and shiny, but the results aren't spectacular. The claims on the bottle are 'helps prevent hair becoming brittle and dull'. I'm sure this is true to a limited extent, but I'm also sure there are better products out there. That said, I also think it depends on your hair type and what the condition of your hair is to begin with. For example, I don't get too many split ends, so I can't really tell if this product improves them.
The difficulty that heat defence products face is that the act of styling your hair is so damaging in the first place, that they're always fighting a loosing battle!
The thing I like best about the product is the lovely, sweet smell. Sometimes I will spray it on just because my hair needs a bit of freshening up. It only looks greasy if you put a lot of it on - I only use a maximum of six quirts at any one time.
The pump-spray nozzle makes the product easy to apply, and the bottle seems to last ages if used economically.
In conclusion I would say this is a nice product with a lovely smell but with negligible heat defence properties. Definitely worth a try for the price.
Summary: ok product for the price
