Advantages: Removes some oil, handy for occasional hair emergencies
Disadvantages: Doesn't feel properly clean, hair feels a bit sticky, powdery and hard to style
I wash my hair most days (5-6 days a week) and I think it usually feels greasy on the rare days when I don't wash it. I had heard a lot of good things about dry shampoo, so when I saw that Tresemme had launched their own dry shampoos I decided to try it because Tresemme Salon Silk shampoo and conditioner are some of my usual hair favourites.
Instant Refresh comes in a 200 ml black can with a yellow lid and a yellow squiggle on the front. the Tresemme logo is clearly printed on the front so it is easy to find on the shelves. The can states it is for normal to oily hair and "removes oil & boosts body". This sounded ideal for my needs. To use the dry shampoo, you shake the can and spray it onto dry hair from 8-12 inches away, leave for a couple of minutes and then brush your hair.
Sound promising. So, does it work? Unfortunately, not really! The smell is supposedly citrussy and it is okay, not too offensive, but not exactly pleasant either. It is a bit chemically. When I use this, my hair feels a bit less greasy so I think it does remove some oil, but it doesn't make my hair feel clean at all. I feel a bit grimy when I have it in, as if there is something a bit sticky and gunky in it! My hair also won't lie right and doesn't have the usual shine and feel it has after washing, because this doesn't include any conditioning elements. A white sticky, powdery residue has built up around the nozzle of my can, so it is not too nice to think that is actually what I have been spraying onto my hair.
Overall, it is handy to have for an absolute emergency and I have used it a few times when travelling when I wasn't able to wash my hair in the morning, but it is not really a substitute for a proper hair wash and I wouldn't like to use it often. If I finish this can I think I would rather try another brand of dry shampooo, maybe Batiste, and see whether it is just Instant Refresh that I am not keen on or if I actually just don't like dry shampoo at all.
Summary: Nowhere near as good as a normal Tresemme shampoo in the shower
