Advantages: Huge bottle

Disadvantages: Not sure it made that much difference to my hair

Tresemme is a brand whose adverts you often see on television with the slogan 'Professional, affordable' as it is a brand that prides itself on providing salon quality hair-care products but not at salon prices. I have often seen their adverts in the past but hadn't bothered to try out their products until I saw that they had a good offer on their product range in Superdrug, 2 for £6 or something like that.

The first thing I noticed about these Tresemme conditioner bottles is the sheer size. Most conditioners come in either a 250ml or 400ml size. This is a whopping 900ml, so big it barely fits in my bathroom basket. It's mostly white with a turquoise flash on the front telling us it's called Salon Silk. It promises to detangle, smooth and tame the hair. On the back there is a useful chart which tells you the different 'levels' of conditioner that Tresemme offer depending on how intense you want the conditioning to be. The one is the last of six in the range but I have also tried the second one and not particularly noticed a difference between them. The product dispenses through a push-up dispenser at the top of the bottle. I personally prefer bottles that have the dispenser at the bottom so the product can drain down by itself so perhaps that is an improvement that could be made.

The product itself is bright white and comes out very slippery and creamy so it will spread over the hair very easily unlike my Aussie products and this makes application very quick and easy. I tend to use large amounts as there is so much in the bottle. One of these bottles will last a few months. It smells nice, fresh and I think there is a slight hint of mint in there but it really does smell like the stuff that hairdressers use in your hair when it gets done professionally. I like to leave it on for a good five minutes to give it a chance to work. It's very easy to rinse out and when I am finished I find my hair does feel soft and clean but I can't say I notice a huge difference between this and any of the other conditioners I have used. Also the nice smell doesn't stay on your hair once the conditioner is rinsed out sadly. I also did not feel that my hair was any more shiny than usual and had to rely on straighteners for that.

So although this 'salon standard' product hasn't blown me away by any means, I would definitely buy it again because the big bottle is good value (roughly £4 I think) and if you buy it on offer it's excellent value.

Summary: Standard performance but good price
