Advantages: Large Bottle, good value
Disadvantages: Hair can feel too "soft" to style
I have tried a number of the TRESemme conditioners. On the back of the conditioner bottles there is a scale to show which products offer the deepest conditioning treatment. TRESemme Salon Silk is the deepest conditioning treatment. So my expectation of this product is that it would leave my hair shiny, glossy and silky, more so than all of the other TRESemme conditioners that I have used.
****Packaging****
The conditioner comes in a 900ml bottle. The bottle is an opaque plastic bottle. Inside the white conditioner is visible. The bottle has a black lid with a flip top. The conditioner comes out of the bottle quite easily when the bottle is full however when the bottle is less than half full and with wet hands squeezing the conditioner out of the bulky bottle is quite difficult.
The bottle has the TRESemme branding on the bottle and like with the other products in the TRESemme range the bottle is quite plain and simple. Each of the different levels of conditioner has a colour assigned depending on the intensity of the treatment to make each level different. The Salon Silk conditioner has a bright green square on the label.
****Price****
The RRP for a 900ml bottle of this is £3.99 which I feel is very good value due to the size of the bottle. Products from the TRESemme range are often on special offer which the Salon Silk conditioner is included in. The offers vary but the most common is two TRESemme products for £6 which Asda, Boots and Superdrug offer. The best offer I have seem is buy one get one free at Boots. This is an absolute bargain which works out at £2 for a 900ml bottle of conditioner. A bottle this size lasts me at least two months. For a "professional" performance product this is extremely good value.
****Product****
The product is a white quite thick liquid, which feels quite greasy when first poured into your hand. When it is put onto the hair it feels very slippery and can be applied to the hair very easily. The product has quite a subtle sweet scent, it reminds me a freshly washed cotton. Its reasonably noticeable but not unpleasant and overpowering. If hair is tangled the conditioner helps to untangle it. I usually leave the conditioner on for around 3 minutes before rinsing off. The product rinses off very easily and although the product feels greasy when applied it does not leave hair feeling greasy or with any residue left on it. When wet the hair feels a lot smoother and sleeker.
Once dried the hair does look a lot more shiny and glossy and feels very soft. I was slightly disappointed as I was expecting my hair to be extremely glossy and a lot shinier than after using the next level down of TRESemme conditioner however there wasn't actually any real different despite Salon Silk claiming to offer the most intense conditioning from the range.
The only real disadvantage with the product comes if you want to style your hair after washing. For straight smooth styles hair looks great and there are no problems. If you want to curl hair (I use my GHD's) because the hair feels a lot softer the style drops out a lot quicker and you have to use more hairspray or equivalent product.
****Overall****
This isn't the best conditioning product I have used however due to its value for money and the fact my hair is left silky, shiny and smooth I will continue to use it for everyday use. If you are looking for a salon performance product so it looks like you have just stepped out of the salon I would recommend the Clynol range of shampoo and conditioners. Be warned these do carry a £8 per bottle price tag, for a bottle less than half the size of the 900ml TRESemme products. If you are looking for an affordable product that gives you shiny smooth hair, its worth giving TRESemme salon silk conditioner a go.
Summary: A good value conditioner for smooth silky hair
