Tresemme Salon Silk Conditioner
Advantages: Easy to apply and rinse out. Average results.
Disadvantages: Not as silky smooth as I hoped. Bottle design makes it hard to remove all the product.
Whilst I am always willing to try out new hair products, shampoos and conditioners, I always tend to revert back to two or three trusty favourites of mine which give me the best results. Tresemme is one such brand I have tried in the past and not been very impressed by, despite all the hype and advertising.
I have often spotted Tresemme products on promotional offers too, but have never purchased any after my first experience purely because I had always managed to find my preferred products at the time with decent prices too. So although I had tried Tresemme in the past and not been too impressed, I wasn't ruling out purchasing it again if the price was right and my other preferred products weren't available or too expensive at the time of purchase. I also bear in mind that brands are often changing their prodcuts making 'new and improved' products and are maybe worth another try, even if you had not been too impressed first time around. One such example of this is Clairol's Herbal Essences range, which I used to love until they changed all their products. I hated their new range, but have recently tried it again as they have since changed some of the range again and I found a shampoo which was quite nice. Therefore I never totally write off a hair care brand.
At Christmas I received a twin pack of Tresemme shampoo and conditioner as a gift Secret Santa at work and I was curious to try it out and see if I liked it any better than my previous experience which was some time ago.
I had high hopes the first time I used Tresemme as they claimed 'salon performance' without the salon price and I thought I was getting a luxury product for my hair, which turned out to be just ok and nothing to get excited about as I found I got better results from my usual favourites.
The conditioner that was in my gift pack was this Salon Silk Conditioner which promised to be 'Intensely moisturizing to calm frizz and tame unruly hair. Leaves hair touchably soft and salon-smooth & silky'.
This conditioner sounded like a suitable product for my long hair which is wavy and can become frizzy, even more so in damp or humid condiions, so I always use smoothing shampoo and conditioner on my hair.
I also liked the 'intensely moisturising' claim as I love my hair to feel soft and moisturised, but I did hope it wouldn't be too heavy and leave my hair feeling weighed down as I have experienced with some conditioners in the past. So as I read that this conditioner intensely moisturises to nip flyaways and unruly hair in the bud even in the most humid conditions and that its hydrating formula with vitamin H and almond oil softens hair, leaving it sleek and smooth without building it up or weighing it down, it did sound very, very promising indeed.
When I came to use the conditioner after first shampooing my hair, I didn't find the fragrance to be anything special. It was hard to describe what the scent was to be honest and although I could detect a slight almond scent, it offered nothing really appealing to me personally as I am not a lover of almond scents. I was pleased its consistency wasn't too thick, in fact it was quite light for a conditioner and runny, but it was easy to apply to my hair. After smoothing it through the ends of my hair first as directed, then applying to my crown, I made sure my hair was fully coated before leaving it for a couple of minutes as directed. My hair instantly felt softer and smoother as I applied it which is always a good sign in my experience, as I have used some terrible conditioners in the past which have left my hair feeling more dry and tatty than it did before application!
The conditioner rinsed out easily and after drying my hair there was no residue left over nor was there that awful heavy, greasy feeling you can get when a conditioner is too thick or has left residue behind despite all your rinsing. The ends of my hair felt soft and smooth, but not quite as silky smooth as I prefer and also I didn't achieve as good a shine to my hair which I have come to expect when using a quality conditioner. On the plus side, my hair did feel light and fairly smooth, but I wasn't left bowled over by this product.
I don't really like the design of the Tresemme bottles, as I recalled from my past experience the tough plastic bottle and flip lid which makes it a nightmare when you are near the end and having to shake the bottle vigourously to try and shake out the remains of the product. Squeezing the bottle is near impossible and I struggled to get all of the conditioner out of the bottle.
Tresemme Salon Silk Conditioner is a long way off being a favourite of mine, but it is certainly not the worst conditioner I have ever used. On a scale of all conditioners I have tried I would place it somewhere in the middle. I would use it again, but only if my preferred products were not available. It was a decent enough product to use, but left my hair not quite as silky smooth as I had hoped for.
Summary: A decent enough conditioner, but not the Salon quality I hoped for.
