I've always viewed this as one of the more "spendy" shampoos - not quite hairdresser standard, but certainly one of the more expensive supermarket shampoos - so when I found it for £2 a huge bottle I thought I'd pick some up.
Frankly I've been incredibly disappointed. If this is a spendy shampoo I'm going back my £1 a bottle stuff!
First, the bottle. It's huge so you think you're getting a lot. But it's so big that when the bottle is full it's hard not to get too much out so you use it faster. And forget about taking it with you on holiday - I had to buy a different shampoo just for that!
Also, the shampoo is expected to come out of a stupidly small hole at the top. Again, this happens very speedily when the bottle is full but my bottle must have about a fifth left in and I'm abandoning it because getting it out takes forever. It's impossible to just shake it really hard so it gloops out, or fill with a bit of water to loosen it as I would with a regular bottle. You just have to turn it upside down and wait three years.
As to the actual shampoo, the texture is really weird and I'm not sure whether it's just because it spent too long in my super-cold bathroom. It reminds me of the gloop you get in kids plsy-eggs - almost gel-like in consistency. It doesn't seem to lather easily and it leaves my hair in an awful tangle. Usually I have to condition once a week - with this stuff I couldn't use it without conditioning after.
The smell is a vague inoffensive sort of scent and honestly that's the nicest thing I can say about it. Do not recommend at all, to anyone.
***The description and picture of this product is for the 500ml bottle; however I am reviewing the 750ml bottle***
I go through shampoo really quickly because I wash my hair every day, but being on a budget I can't really afford to buy expensive brands. I normally avoid the Tresemme shampoos as I'd always assumed they were very expensive due to the size of the bottles available, but they caught my eye when I was shopping this week as they were half price.
TreSemme have several types of shampoo, but I plumped for the Thermal Recovery shampoo, as I blow dry and straighten my hair most days. It also hasn't been cut for about 2 months and so is in severe need of TLC.
This comes in a large black bottle with a red and yellow design on the front. Rather distinctive, although despite its claims to be 'salon performance', I've certainly never seen any TreSemme products in a hairdressers.
This shampoo promises to replenish and strengthen heat-styled hair using almond oil and aloe vera, to restore lost nutrients.
APPEARANCE AND SMELL
This shampoo is fairly thick, and white pearlescent in colour. It smells slightly fruity - a really pleasant smell. It isn't runny so you won't waste any when squeezing it out onto your hand.
I find a 50p sized blob is sufficient for a decent lather. It lathers up quickly, and unlike some shampoos I have used, doesn't create a surfeit of lather that takes ages to rinse out. As you work it into your hair, it definitely does feel like it is giving your hair a good clean. I found this rinsed out quickly also.
I do think my hair felt on the tatty side after I rinsed this out, and it took me a while to run the comb through my hair when applying conditioner. I don't see this as a big problem though - my hair is long so I am used to it!
AFTER DRYING AND STYLING
My hair definitely felt very clean after drying and straightening it. It also felt soft and less dry than other shampoos can leave it. My hair did feel slightly silkier after straightening, as if the shampoo had left a protective seal around it - thankfully this did not leave it sticky or greasy though.
One of the main things I liked about this shampoo is that the smell stays on your hair after washing it, and even the following day. It's really pleasant to be able to have clean, fresh-smelling hair.
This normally retails at around £4.69 for the 750ml bottle, but Sainsbury's are currently selling this for half price. 750ml of shampoo for £2.34? Don't mind if I do!
WOULD I BUY THIS AGAIN?
I would. Even if it went back up to full price, I still think £4.69 is a good price for a bottle of this size. I would also be interested in trying some of the other shampoos that Tresemme do just to see if I like them also.
Tresemme products that I have used have always been of a high quality. I have used the colour protection shampoo, the deep cleansing shampoo and the heat protection shampoo. The scent of these shampoos has always been really fresh scented and I come out of the bath or shower feeling like my hair is lighter and shinier.
With this in mind, I highly recommend Tresemme products! As they are advertised as more luxury shampoos than some, the prices are slightly higher than a budget shampoo. The larger bottles are definitely great value for money and worth the 2 for £7 deal that you can find in Boots or Superdrug quite frequently. The larger bottles are 900ml and this will last forever! The one disadvantage to the 900ml bottle is that it is slightly too heavy at the start of its use so for this reason we have the 500ml bottle.
I am a big fan of Tresemme products and after using several budget shampoos to try and cut my costs in the haircare department, I maintain that I will buy these for the lovely fresh scent and clean feeling to my hair. A real quality hair care product and you cannot compromise on nice smelling hair - the greasy look just isn't a good one!
I wash my hair every few days and Tresemme shampoo keeps my hair fresh for those few days unlike some of the cheaper brands which make it feel like you haven't even washed your hair! Ugh!
I wouldn't say these shampoos are gender specific either unlike some shampoos which are quite feminine or masculine! Me and my boyfriend both use this one. The current bottle we have which we share has lasted ages!! This could be down to the fact that a little squeeze of this product goes a long way and the consistency is such that it is quite thick and you do not lose half the product down the plughole!
--Pricing and availability--
These haircare products are available all over the place, large supermarkets, Boots and Superdrug are your best bets, with the 500ml bottles retailing at arpund £3.50 each. Tesco currently have a 3 for 2 deal on, so grab a bargain!!
Gorgeous products, gorgeous scents, easy squeeze bottle design, suitable for guys and girls.
After deciding to change my shampoo and seeing this on offer in my local supermarket I thought it would be a good idea to try something different. This shampoo was on offer at the time 500ml for £3.00 and my hair did feel in need of some t.L.C. I have my hair coloured every 8 weeks at the hairdressers and it was feeling abit dry and lank so this sounded like the perfect product. I also bought the conditioner which was also on offer. After using over the period of two weeks. I found my hair felt terrible. It felt incredibly soapy and dry and very difficult to blow dry and style. It left my hair feeling lank. I did wash the product out very well. Only using a 10p size amount of shampoo and washing it out till it was completely out of my hair. I also give it a wash with cold water just as reccomeded as i no it seals the cuticles in the hair. I was very dissapointed and will not be purchaseing tresemme products again. I have used other products by tresemme and find they do they same thing leaving her soapy and dry and diffcult to style all in all if a salon did use these products as it states in the advert i wouldnt be going to that salon again.
I like to try a lot of different shampoo's and conditioners, and one of the recent ones I have tried is Tresemme Shampoo - Thermal Recovery.
This shampoo is part of the Thermal Recovery range of hair care products from Tresemme. It comes in a black bottle with a red cap, red design and red writing. The Tresemme logo is printed in white. On the back of the bottle is some directions on use, and some information about the company as well as the ingredients of the shampoo.
The actual shampoo itself is an opaque liquid, which is quite thick in texture, but it pours out of the bottle at a good enough rate so you can get the right amount of shampoo you require. The bottle lid has a push down/ click up mechanism, so you can be reassured the bottle is closed properly when you push the lid back down.
When I washed my hair with Thermal Recovery Shampoo, I found it to lather up quickly and easily and it spread around the hair nice and easily. It created a good amount of lather, and it felt quite soothing on my scalp. It rinsed really easily when I was done with it, and it left my hair feeling soft and clean. I followed it up the Thermal Recovery conditioner.
When my hair was dried, it felt soft and smooth and was a lot easier to manage. The main point of the Thermal Recovery range is to help replenish and protect the hair from heat damage. I felt that my hair did look better than before I used it, so I think it does it just what it is meant to. It even smells nice, almost like a shampoo smell you would get in a hair salon.
You can buy Thermal Recovery Shampoo in Boots and Wilkinsons, as well as Superdrug and some major supermarkets. It comes in 2 different size bottles, 300ml and 500ml. I recommend this shampoo, especially for those people who use a lot of heat styling on their hair and could do with a little TLC.
I love trying out new cosmetics, especially if they are on offer. When I saw this new TRESemme Thermal Recovery Replenishing Shampoo at half price (£1.95 for 500ml) I had to buy it. This was in August last year and even with regular use, I still have about 1/4 of the bottle left.
I didn't only buy this product because of the offer. The shampoo is part of the Thermal Creations range, which are specially formulated to work with heat appliances protecting your hair from excessive damage caused by high temperatures. Admittedly, I torture my hair with straighteners far more often than I should and this shampoo was exactly what I needed to clear my conscience.
There are a few other products in the Thermal Creations range to suit curly and straight styles, one of which is the Iron Style & Hold Spray which I use and will review in the future.
TRESemme Thermal Creations products are available from Boots, or any other drug store, also available from supermarkets. They are often on offer either half price or Buy 1 Get 1 Free.
----- Packaging -----
I don't know why but I've never really been a fan of TRESemme products. They were advertised as salon quality haircare products, but to me looked very cheap and uninteresting. Well, I was about to change my mind about this brand.
The bottle of Thermal Recovery Replenishing Shampoo is very simple in design but in contrast to other TRESemme shampoos this one also looks attractive. The chunky bottle is black with red and golden flame design on the front to remind you this is especially created to work with high temperatures. The whole design of the bottle is in red, white and black - colours which go well together.
The cap is a handy one, you don't need to unscrew it to pour shampoo out, just press the top of the cap which will reveal an opening through which you pour the shampoo. I like this cap opening because it is easy to open with wet hands and control exactly how much shampoo you use.
The standard bottle is 500ml, which was quite a novelty for me because I am used to 200ml and 250ml shampoo sizes. However, I don't think 500ml is too much - it is long lasting, great value for money (RRP £3.91) and fortunately the bottle doesn't seem to take up a lot of space. It wouldn't of course be my choice for a travel but fortunately, TRESemme have a mini version of this shampoo which is quite handy for carrying around (£1.29 for 100 ml).
----- How is it to use? -----
When you start pouring out the transparent liquid, you are greeted with a lovely fruity fragrance. On the bottle, you are advised to use a liberal amount of shampoo, but I prefer to lather my hair twice with a smaller amount of shampoo - I feel my hair is cleaned better this way. You don't actually need to use a lot and a small amount produces a lot of lather. I prefer to apply it twice, or ever 3 times, during the shower to make sure all the dust and grease has been washed off.
As I said before the shampoo gives me an impression of exceptional cleaning - once I have washed out the shampoo and comb through my hair with my fingers, it even makes a squeaky clean noise. I also found that this product detangles my frizzy hair. Usually I pile my hair up during washing and don't pay a lot of attention not to tangle it. It is usually quite difficult to run my fingers through my wet hair. Not with this shampoo, though, I find it much easier.
----- So what about the properties? -----
This is a replenishing shampoo for dried, damaged and heat treated hair. It is supposed to nourish, repair and add moisture to the damaged hair thanks to its active ingredients - Aloe Vera, Almond Oil extract, liquid keratin, panthenol and vitamins.
It does its job well. My hair is naturally very dry, prone to breaking and full of split ends. To make it worse, I use a styling iron after every wash. At some point my hair was looking very dull and straw-like. After using this shampoo, my hair has become much more moisturized and acquired a subtle shine. And this, I know, is due to the shampoo because I don't use conditioners often and didn't use a hair treatment at the time when I bought this product.
In contrast to other moisturizing shampoos I had used before (quite a few, I must say) this one doesn't weigh hair down nor does it make it greasy. Finally, the lovely fragrance stays on my hair until the next wash or for 2-3 days.
The shampoo didn't repair the breakage nor visibly reduced existing split ends, but in my opinion no shampoo is capable of doing this because its contact with hair is too short and the concentration of active ingredients is not strong enough. For repair damage such as this I use hair treatments and don't expect a shampoo to do this job. Although this shampoo didn't mend the existing split ends, it reduced the breakage and split ends from appearing on my hair in the first place, which for me is a great result.
----- Ingredients for those who are interested -----
During my research for this review, I found that ingredients are not listed on any website, so I have written them down as they appear on my bottle.
Aqua (Water), Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Ammonium Chloride, Hydrolyzed Keratin, Ascorbic Acid, Panthenol, Tocopheryl Actate, Biotin, Niacinamide, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Quaternium-22, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Polyquaternium-39, Polyquaternium-10, Polysorbate 20, Tetrasodium EDTA, Citric Acid, Hexylene Glycol, Triethanolamine, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Butylphenyl Methyl Propional, Geraniol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Limonene, Linalool, Parfum (Fragrance).
----- Overall -----
I would definitely recommend it and cannot find strong enough negatives (or any negatives) to deduct points. It smells great, cleans thoroughly, moisturizes and costs adequately to its properties and size. It is an excellent value for money and I cannot recommend it highly enough. This product receives a 5/5 rating from me.
This is the brand of shampoo I use everytime I wash my hair and I will continue using it until I find a cheaper shmapoo with the same results even though my search for a new shampoo as good as Tresemme has proved to be like searching for a needle in a haystack! I forst picked up a bottle of this along with the matching conditioner about four months go when it was on offer at Superdrug for £5 a bottle and I still have that very same bottle! Which just goes to show how long this lasts and why it is well worth the price!!
Well What Does The Product Offer:
The tresemme range is said to give you slaon results at home but on a budget! This particular range of Tresemme shampoo's is specifically designed for those of you who like me love straigtening their hair and is said to give protection from the heat leaving you with soft, managable hair that isnt ravaged my split ends!
Does It Deliver?
Well it certainly did for me, thats why it's my favourtite brand! I am a huge straightening freak so heat protection for me is a must! And Im happy to say that whilst using this shampoo and conditioner my hair didnt get damaged from heat and even started to look and feel nicer and more managable after just a few washes! It also left my hair feeling clean and smelling fresh, which lasted a few days without me having to re-wash.
What Did I Think?
Well as you may have already guessed I loved it and wouldnt even consider going back to some of the less than perfect shampoo's of the past. One £5 bottle has lasted me about 5 months so far so the value for money is amazing, when you consider the amount of time it lasts and the results you get. It gave me great heat protection against straighteners and hair dryers which when you use them as much as I do is amazing and as Ive already mentioned after only a few washes actually started to improve the overal condition of my hair, which was fantastic! A must have for straightening addicts and highly recommended from me!
You can pick up a 591ml (what a weird amount =S) bottle for around £6.99 on amazon.co.uk but also from most good chemists (eg. Boots & Superdrug) for maybe even less than that! WELL WORTH THE MONEY!
I found this in a great offer at Tesco's, £5 along with the Thermal Recovery Conditioner. I remember the tv ad claiming that gives salon professional results in a reasonable price and by then I could certainly agree with the second part of this: 2 Large Bottles for £5 - that was a bargain! The first part of the ad was far beyond the truth as far as I am concerned... At that time my hair was dry and really shouting for help due to constant use of Hair Blow dryer and my diet was poorer in nutritions compared to now. The product description seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. My hair after this treatment were wired, drier and were much worse. I tried both shampoo and conditioner again and again, together and separately, hoping to see a different effect, but nothing. I was baffled and I read the label a few times thinking that I must have bough the wrong product. I can't believe that it claims to repair 'heat treated hair' when the feeling after using it is like you have just burnt your hair. It felt more like a shampoo for 'oily hair' instead... Very dissapointed.
I put my poor poor hair through a lot, if its not blow drying or straightneing everyday its having extensions constantly taken in and out, and as a result of this my hair is very damaged and weak. I bought this as my sister; who is a hair abuser too said it has worked wonders for her hair and I see it on special offer and £1 and thought well why not give it a go and im glad I did!
I opened the 500ml bottle to wash my hair and the first thing i noticed was how lovely is smelt! Which I was quite surprised about as some of these recovery shampoo's can smell quite industrial but this one has a lovely smell to it.
As I began putting it on my hair I then noticed how thick the shampoo was and how a little really does go along way!
After I had washed it out it felt so soft and smooth it felt as though I didn't even have to use conditioner, which is great if your in a rush!
When I was blow drying my hair even after using it just once I could see how fuller, more shiny and richer it looked. It felt so soft aswell and I could smell the shampoo in my hair all day which with a lot of shampoo's as soon as you go outside the smell wears away.
I have been using this for over 6 months now and my hair is is such better condition all the ends are less dry and its certainty more stronger.
This shampoo is also great if you have hair extensions and keeps them at bay!
I would defiantly recommend this product!
I am very cruel to my hair, which is a shame really as its one of my best features! It is very thick and has a natural wave to it. This means that I can either straighten or curl it fairly easily. I dye my hair every couple of months, I straighten it and when the mood takes me I use heated rollers or tongs to curl it. This results in a very dry frizzy affect which I don't find particularly appealing.
I saw an advert for the TRESemme Thermal Recovery range on TV so the next time I was in boots I went to have a look for it. Luckily it was on special offer buy one get one free for the 500ml at £3.79! Perfect I thought so I got the shampoo and conditioner from the same range.
The bottles are quite an attractive design. The shampoo bottle is black but it has a metallic looking red lid and a red and gold flame design which really make it stand out. I like the simple shape and it is very easy to hold and open when your hands are wet, plus it is recyclable. The conditioner is the same design only the bottle is white.
The labels say the shampoo and conditioners are for dried-out, damaged hair with aloe vera & almond extract.
What they say -
'This product restores vibrancy and shine back to hair that has been exposed to the heat of blow dryers, curling, or straightening irons. This nourishing, moisture rich formula, containing aloe vera & almond oil extract, is ideal for those who frequently use heat styling tools. Plus, it is gentle enough for daily use so it won't dry your hair out. So go ahead and get back that soft healthy looking hair you crave.'
Big claims! So lets see if it works...
In the interest of testing both products the first time I washed my hair I only used the shampoo as I wanted to see how it made my hair feel.
The shampoo itself is clear and quite thick. You don't need to use a lot to get a thick, rich lather going on your hair. The instructions say to massage it into you scalp and the hair on your head then to smooth it down through the rest of your hair to avoid tangles. I must admit I completely ignored this and just piled all my hair up on top of my head as usual!
The Shampoo has quite a light floral fragrance, it smells pretty much the same as all TRESemme products I have tried! It leaves your hair smelling nice but not too strong.
After washing my hair I then blow dried it as normal. Again in the interest of testing I didn't put any other products on my hair. I gave it a rough dry and then blow dried it straight. I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. My hair felt really soft, considering I hadn't used any conditioner, and much less frizzy then usually. My straighteners ran through it much more easily too.
I wash my hair every other day and I have found in the past the shampoos which claim to 'repair' your hair or moisturise it, leave it looking slightly greasy the next day. Not so with this shampoo as my hair looked just as good for the whole of the next day too. My hair can get very oily at the roots so if you don't have this problem you could probably wait even longer between hair washes if you wanted to when using this shampoo
Well they were right about the shampoo so I had high hopes for the conditioner.
After washing my hair with the shampoo I squeezed a large blob of the conditioner onto my hand. The conditioner is white, very thick and creamy and has a nice light floral sent. The instructions say to apply an 'adequate amount' (a big blob :-D) to your hair, mid shaft to ends first like you are making a ponytail (if you have long hair) then to use what is left on your hands to cover the rest of your hair. Then you should leave it in for 2-3 minutes. It covers your hair really easily and feels really rich and creamy. You need less then you think to cover all you hair and as you rinse your hair it untangles really easily.
After rinsing the conditioner out I blow dried my hair straight and I was very pleasantly surprised with the results. My hair was really soft and smooth and it didn't feel dry at all. It took half the time to run the straighteners through my hair and when I had finished it looked really healthy and shiny.
Normally when I style my hair it can look a little fried at the ends unless I cover it in leave in conditioners and straightening creams, but it looked great and I hadn't used any other products! I really couldn't be happier with this conditioner, it makes my hair feel and look great and it saves on the amount of time needed to style it.
Highly recommended. The only downside i can see is that i can't stop touching my hair and people might start to think i am a little strange!
The TRESemme thermal range also includes a set of styling products. I bought the TRESemme Thermal Creations Iron Style & Hold Spray as it says it can be used for either curling or straightening your hair. As I swap between the two I thought this would be great instead of having to buy 2 separate products. The bottle claims that it will protect your hair from the heat and help to hold your style.
So, I washed my hair then gently towel dried it, my hair is very thick and holds A LOT of water so if I don't towel dry it a bit first it takes forever to dry. The instructions on the bottle tell you to hold it 6-8 inches from your hair and spray liberally on to the length of your hair not the roots. So I did! It has a nice light floral smell, very similar to the TRESemme shampoos. I ran my fingers through my hair to make sure it was evenly coated. It does make you hair feel slightly sticky which made me think I had put too much on - well they did say apply liberally!
I then blow dried my hair straight and to my relief the stickiness disappeared and left my hair feeling very soft and looking quite shiny. Usually I need to spend quite a bit of time running straighteners through my hair but after blow drying it straight using this product I only needed to touch up a few areas. Normally my hair feels quite dry when I straighten it but when using this spray the straighteners glid through it really easily and leave my hair looking shiny and healthy.
It didn't make my hair feel/look greasy the next day as some products I have tried do and it made styling it so much easier. When I woke up the next day it was still straight so the claims about helping your hair hold its style were true, for straight hair at least.
The next weekend I decided to see how the TRESemme Thermal Creations Iron Style & Hold Spray worked with curly hair. So after washing my hair I covered my hair in the spray and blow dried it. Then after waiting the 9 hours for my tongs to warm up I curled my hair into loose ringlets. This normally dries my hair out a treat, but surprisingly it still looked really healthy and the curl looked a lot more natural than it does when I use gel to hold it. I had decided not to use gel so I could see if it really did help hold the curl or not.
By the end of the day my hair was still curly, they had dropped out a bit more than if I had used gel and hairspray but my hair looked much better, plus I quite liked the more natural look compared to the fired gelled look! The next day however the curl was mostly gone, but you can use the spray on dry hair so I put a bit more on (not as much as I did when it was wet) and curled the bits which had dropped out again. It worked ok on dry hair but it did feel a bit stickier.
I really like this product and it will definitely not be left just to gather dust! This combined with the Shampoo and conditioner from the Thermal Recovery range have made a huge difference to my hair. My partner even thought I had dyed it again as the colour looked much brighter and more vibrant.
This spray has left my hair feeling soft and healthy, the ends no longer look totally fried and it takes half the time to style it. Plus in boots there is 25% off the Thermal creations styling range so I saved £1.25 of the normal price of £4.99. However as I only needed to buy one product instead of 2 (straightening and curling) I think the normal price is ok anyway.
TRESemme claim to provide salon quality products and with this range my hair really does feel like i've just stepped out of the hair dressers and not just stuck my finger in an electric socket :-D
I definitely think that if you blow dry or use hot irons of any kind the TRESemme thermal range are the best products you can use, my hair looks so healthy and feels amazing.
