Taking care of my hair has been an important part of my beauty regime for many years, particularly as I consider it to be my pride and joy. I have no doubt spent a fortune on hair care during my lifetime and whilst I don't seek out designer products, I purchase purse friendly brands whose products are specifically created for my hair type. I would describe my hair as normal although due to it being long and thick, the ends are prone to dryness and splitting. Whilst I wash my hair on alternate days using a normal shampoo and conditioner, for an additional moisture boost I always use intensive masks once or twice a week.
I've used a number of different brands over the years with Dove being the one that best suits my needs in terms of results and price. However, being the inquisitive person that I am and my love of trying and testing new products, whilst shopping in Boots a few months ago my eyes were drawn to a product by Tresemmé named Split Remedy and this review discusses my experience with using.
Despite the packaging of the majority of Tresemmé products being fairly appealing to the eye, it is not a brand that I regularly purchase although I have bought their shampoos and conditioners on a few occasions. It was the appearance of the product together with its marketing claims that lured me into my purchase where we are informed that the masque is described as a "reconstructing complex" and will offer "intense recovery".
We are provided with 300 ml of product, which is contained within a sturdy plastic opaque tub with an easy to open vivid green coloured screw top lid. As with the majority of hair masques that I have used, the white coloured contents offer a creamy texture, which enables easy application to the hair. Whilst many brands offer a considerably feminine fragrance, deeming them unsuitable for male consumers, Split Remedy offers a considerably refreshing aroma and whilst there are no ingredients to such the scent, I am able to witness a delicate hint of apple although my husband would disagree.
The directions for use displayed on the reverse of the tub are distinguished by five easy to follow steps although I would advise that the text is fairly small. In order to obtain the best results, any excess water should be squeezed from the hair with the product being applied from the mid length with extra attention being given to the tips. The masque should be evenly distributed with the aid of a wide toothed comb although I must admit that I carry out this step with my fingers where I am easily able to remove any tangles or knots. It is at this stage that I am generally able to determine if a conditioning product will be effective, as my fingers will not effortlessly glide through my hair if the product is inferior.
The refreshing and uplifting fragrances deepens as the masque is applied, which I found extremely favourable and as directed, I waited for the allotted three to five minutes before rinsing away. I have previously used a few brands of hair masque in the past, which require significant rinsing, but I would describe the rinsing process in relation to this product identical to that of rinsing away a normal conditioner, as it takes only a couple of minutes.
As I regularly use similar products, my hair is in good condition although from experience, I am fully aware that an ineffective product would cause my split ends to return. However, I was extremely happy with the results, as my hair offered a silky smooth texture with the tips not displaying any sign of split ends or frizz. Tresemmé claim that the product will offer an 80% reduction to split ends after just three uses although this is difficult for me to evidence with my hair being in a good condition due to my continued use of similar products. However, as previously stated, if I use an inferior product, my split ends will return, so I am of the opinion that the masque lives up to its claim.
Despite my hair being silky soft and smooth following twice weekly use, it is very lightweight and as a result, I am able to style as normal and I love the fact that the gorgeous aroma lingers for a few hours afterwards. As I speak highly of Dove products, I didn't believe I would find a strong contender, but Tresemmé Split Remedy has far exceeded my expectations and as a result, I will not hesitate in making a further purchase. As my hair is long and thick I needed to use a large dollop with the 300 ml tub providing me with approximately ten uses.
The masque is widely available with the best price being at Boots and whilst it normally retails at £5.69, there is currently a three for two mix and match promotion across selected hair care, vitamins and cosmetics. Due to the reasons discussed above, I can award nothing less than five stars together with a high recommendation.
I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.
