Trevor Sorbie Curl defining shampoo
I have had this shampoo for months now but I have just started using it just over a week ago, as I have a lot of shampoos that I need to use up. I bought this shampoo as it states that it is good for naturally curly/wavy hair, which is what I have and I am going to buy any shampoo that says "curl defining" as I always want my hair to look as wavy/curly.
- Product description from the Trevor Sorbie website
"Curl Defining Shampoo is fantastic for enhancing natural curls. It nourishes and moisturises, leaving well defined, bouncy curls. Also, due to its shine-enhancing technology it gives a great finish and healthy looking hair. Suitable for all types of naturally wavy/curly hair".
- About the product
I have the small travel size bottle of this as I wanted to try it before I bought the full size - as in my experience a lot of shampoos that claim to be curl defining do not actually work on my hair. I have the 75ml bottle, which would be great for travelling. This product states to 'enhance natural curls by nourishing and moisturising - leaving you with well defined, bouncy curls'. This product also states to contain heat protection and shine enhancing technology. I really quite like the packaging of this product, it looks simple and sleek and the dispenser is at the bottom of the bottle.
- Scent, consistency and texture of the product
Firstly, the product looks like a conditioner and the first time I used this shampoo I thought that I had picked up the conditioner by mistake. It looks like an average conditioner (even though it is a shampoo) but it has a fairly runny/thin consistency which I was not expecting and I am not too keen on this aspect of the product. The texture of the product though is very smooth and silky, which makes applying the product quite nice and fairly easy. The scent of this product is really quite different to other shampoo I have used, especially recently, as the scent of this shampoo is really quite perfume like - it does not smell floral, fruity like other shampoos, it actually smells like an average bottle of perfume. I did not expect this shampoo so smell like it does, as not a lot of shampoos in my experience smell like a average/cheap bottle of fairly nice perfume - overall, I like the scent but I would have preferred a floral scent or no scent at all.
- Using the product and results
I was quite disappointed with this product from the first time I used it, as this shampoo when applied to my hair does not lather up very well - it is quite average in this respect and when a shampoo does not lather up very well, it means that I cannot really massage and cleanse my scalp with the shampoo. Lathering the shampoo is disappointing, as it is just average, although the fairly nice perfume scent is released when using this shampoo and the scent is fairly strong - which some people may like but recently as my scalp has been irritated I do not like scented shampoos/conditioners as they tend to irritate my skin (which this one does but only very slightly). Once lathered up as best as it can (which is not very much) I then rise the product out of my hair and this does not take long at all, which is great and after I have rinsed this product out of my hair, my hair feels really quite smooth and moisturised. I then apply my conditioner, which at the moment is my aussie mega instant light conditioner which is fantastic.
Overall, the application and lathering this product is disappointing and I will not be buying this product again for this reason. The scent is ok and after rinsing my hair does feel fairly smooth and moisturised, which is good. The results from this product are also disappointing, this shampoo claims to define curls and I find that this shampoo has not effect at all on my hair natural waves/curls! This shampoo does seem to make my hair smoother and a bit shinier though. Overall, mixed results but this shampoo does not live up to its curl defining claims at all!
- Price and availability
I bought the small travel size 75ml bottle from boots months ago and it is priced at £2.99 I think. The full size bottle is priced at £5.10 (but selected Trevor Sorbie hair products are on offer at the moment for 2 for £6 - as of 15/03/2012). This product can be bought from boots stores, boots.com and maybe at larger supermarkets such as Tesco.
*Easy to use and it is very quick and easy to rinse this shampoo out of my hair
*Scent is fairly nice, although it is unusual for a shampoo to have a heavy perfume scent in my opinion
*Makes my hair fairly smooth and moisturised
* The consistency is really quite runny/thin, which I don't like too much
*This curl defining shampoo does nothing to my hair natural waves/curls which is the main claim of the product!
*Irritates my scalp very slightly
