Advantages: great hold, widely available

Disadvantages: pricey

Before I finally managed to get hold of some OSIS mess-up wax, there was only one choice for me as far as hair wax went, namely Trevor Sorbie Professional Range Wax. The product is distinctive in a frosted glass flat jar, with a silver and coloured label as per the photo, having formerly been in a brown container, as per the then colour range for the entire Sorbie range. I had originally discovered it having used Trevor Sorbie Styling Gel, having discover the TS range originally through a free sample from freeukstuff.co.uk ? they've certainly made the money back for the postage etc. as I seem to use a large number of their hair products!

The wax is yellow in colour, the same as my American Crew Fiber (aka Banana Wax) which I used to get from my stylist when I was at Uni in Scotland ? perhaps I might pop back to St Andrews to John Alan just to pick some more up when I am next in Scotland!, and is quite a thick wax, (i.e. it takes quite a lot of rubbing to get it into its useable form. As with all waxes I have found (apart from OSIS) you do tend to leave a coating on your hands, which can be a pain to get rid of ? use a nail brush when washing your hands after application.

A lump the size of a small marble is enough to run through my relatively short barnet, which is not that much compared with a gel, although OSIS only needs about half as much, although costs about half as much again as Trevor Sorbie Professional Styling Wax. It is, like Mess up, sutiable for the styled bedhead look although on the rare occasio you need to look neat and presentable, then this is also the one for you!

The hold is, as is to be expected from a hair wax on the firm side, although the wax can take quite a lot of working into the hair, although as Trevor Sorbie himself says, "Don?t rush it!", and it is true that the couple of extra minutes are necessary to get the best results. The jar of 75ml with probably last you about six-eight weeks, which me
ans that the initial outlay of £5.50 is not that steep, when compared to the poor results you will get with a gel in comparison to a wax.

Of course there is a downside that wax is hard to get out of your hair, so it is worth making sure you don't use more than is really necessary. Way should also be stored with the lid on and shut, as otherwise it has a tendency to melt and whilst the resulting gunge is easier to apply, the results are not as good. This is a good product, widely available (Boots and Superdrug) and best bought when there is a BOGOF or 3 for 2 offer, although still doesn't match Schwarzkopf OSIS Mess-up for me, hence only four stars.
