Advantages: Frequently part of a generous price promotion, easy to apply, pleasant scent, leaves hair softer
Disadvantages: Can be difficult to rinse, bottle can be cumbersome to hold
Although I'm not always brand loyal, I've used the Tresemme range of shampoos and conditioners for several years now. Amongst my favourite Tresemme products is this 'Moisture Rich' conditioner, containing Vitamin E. This conditioner is designed for hair that is dry or damaged and promises to restore moisture and shine, whilst still being light enough for everyday use if necessary. This conditioner is very widely available from most supermarkets and chemists and is sold in 900ml or 500ml bottles which stand out on the shelves due to their simple but chunky design.
I tend to wash my hair every two or three days, as I have long, curly hair that has a tendency to become dry and frizzy so I avoid washing it too frequently. In all honesty, as a working mother with three kids, I struggle to find the time to wash (and dry) it more frequently than that anyway. I'm not completely loyal to one particular brand or product but this conditioner is the one that I've been using for several weeks now and one that I have purchased and used on a regular basis.
I find the consistency of this conditioner to be very well suited to my long, thick hair. The creamy white conditioner is thick enough to coat my hair easily without escaping through my fingers. I find it easy to work through the entire lengths of my hair. The bottle recommends leaving this in the work for around two or three minutes before rinsing out. I do generally do this, leaving the conditioner to work its magic whilst I have a pleasant soak although sometimes the kids have other ideas!
Due to the thick consistency of this conditioner, it can prove quite difficult to rinse out easily and I do find that it takes a lot longer to rinse this out thoroughly, which isn't always ideal when I'm pressed for time. I have found that if I haven't quite rinsed this out properly, it does leave my hair feeling a little greasy and uncomfortable by the following day. I certainly don't feel any residue or greasiness if I've rinsed this thoroughly, however.
The scent of the conditioner is in keeping with other products from the range, so I do find that the products complement each other and work best when used in conjunction with the matching shampoo. I do tend to use the matching shampoo from the same range but have used different brands and found the results to be similar. I do find that the scent of this conditioner is quite strong and distinctive and can overpower other more subtle fragrances, even though this is a fairly nondescript 'hair product' kind of smell. I do like the scent personally, associating it with clean, freshly washed hair.
After use, I find that this conditioner leaves my hair feeling soft and relatively easy to brush through once styled and dried. I have to admit that it doesn't work miracles - my hair is fairly damaged and I have a mass of split ends, which isn't surprising as I haven't been to the hairdresser for several months. This doesn't make my hair feel as though I've just walked out of the salon but it does leave if feeling comfortable and makes it slightly more manageable. I find that I need to use this in conjunction with other products, particularly serum after washing to tackle the frizz that is the bane of my life. I do find that to be true of most shampoos and conditioners that I've used, however, and still feel satisfied that this Moisture Rich variety adds enough moisture to make a noticeable difference to the feel of my hair, although I wouldn't be prepared to pay a premium to use this particular product.
One of the attractions of this product and the brand in general is that it is frequently on promotion, meaning that I'm able to stock up on quite a few at a time. Each bottle lasts me several months, even though I tend to use quite a lot of conditioner to coat my long thick hair, as the bottles are so generous! The full RRP for the larger bottles is around £4.69, but it is often part of a multi-buy promotion, occasionally even on a Buy One Get One Free offer, making this excellent value for money.
The main drawback is the design of the bottles for practical use. They are cumbersome to hold and use, particularly the large 900ml version which I tend to buy. The sheer size of the bottle means that it can be surprisingly heavy and slippery, especially for the first few uses and I think it would benefit from having some indents around the middle to make it easier to hold. I do like the robust flip up lid, which dispenses the conditioner easily and evenly. It is also a little tricky to open which is actually a blessing for me as it prevents my toddler from being able to open the bottle and pour half of the contents away.
In all, this isn't an amazing miracle product which turns my dry, neglected curls into smooth, silken tresses but it is a reliable product that does make my hair feel better, softer and easier to style. Given its value for money, it is a product that I shall continue to use and am happy to recommend.
Summary: A good value for money conditioner
