As I mentioned in one of my recent reviews, I received a few full sized samples from Lush on a splurge the other day. Thankfully I had never used most of them, so it was great to get to try them out before buying them as I was looking to buy some of them anyway! One of the samples that fell into this category was the Ultimate Shine shampoo bar, something I'd been longing to try for months now.

The Ultimate Shine shampoo bar is a bar of solid shampoo invented to reduce the use of plastic shampoo bottles. Shampoo bars have become increasingly popular over the past few years due to their small size and the fact that you can travel with them through and airport without being stopped for having too much liquid in your bags. Not only this, but they are extremely easy to use and good for the environment, so if they work, then why not convert?

This particular shampoo bar is an off white colour with miniscule gold flakes in it. It's around 1.5cm tall and just under two inches wide. Being round in size makes this bar of shampoo alot easier to use as it fits into your hand perfectly! If you look at it closely, you can see tiny little particles which look like rice, I assume this is what rice pudding would look like if you mized in tiny bits of gold glitter then froze it in a round dish.

I can't really pick out any particular scent, but it's definitely one of those that you have t get used to. When I first gave it a sniff, I thought it was awful, but now I rather like it, let's just say it's growing on me. Although I can't pick out any particular scents, I can tell you that it smells extremely clean and slightly herbal. It also reminds me of going into the shower in hospital right after it's been cleaned.

There are two ways to use these that I know of. The first one is to run your hair under the water then rub the shampoo bar over your scalp three times then lather it up all throughout your hair and use like a normal shampoo from there on.
The second way I know of using this is to lather it up in your hands then work it into your hair.
Both of these methods work equally as well, but if you have long hair, I'd advise the second method so that you can avoid unnecessary tugs in your hair.

Now, the claim for this shampoo is to give your hair the 'Ultimate Shine'. It's always easy to claim things like this, but whether it meets the claim or not is usually the problem. For me, this doesn't meet it's claim. My hair wasn't any shinier than normal, but I'll give it it's dues, it lathered amazingly and my hair felt squeaky clean afterwards - you could tell there was no residue left on your hair so you knew you were getting a great clean.

To buy this, it will cost you £4.40 (it does last around the same length of time as 750mls of liquid shampoo by the way). It's only available in Lush stores and on lush.co.uk, or of course, you could try ebay but I wouldn't recommend that. You can also buy a shampoo bar tin to put this in which will cost you £2.69 (or you can get this free if you buy two shampoo bars).

Advantages:
- no packaging
- small, easy to travel with
- nice smell
- cleans exceptionally
- cheap/good value for money

Disadvantages:
- no extra shine

Overall, this is a good product, so I'm not going to give it only 1 star because of the no extra shine thing, but I am going to knock one star off because of that. I know that if there was the added bonus of extra shine, I'd happily give this maximum stars. I'm probably going to keep this for traveling and going to the gym though, it's good to use different shampoos every now and again for the sake of your hair.

Thanks for reading!
