“ Brand: Umberto Giannini / Type: Conditioner „
So yesterday I was wondering around Boots doing a usual shop and I saw this conditioner for around £5 (but they had a 3 for 2 offer on) for a 250ml bottle and as I don't have a conditioner I decided to buy it. I hadn't heard of the brand before but it looked quite professional and sleek (despite the bottle resembling an erotic toy!) and I had seen a few people lurking around the shelf so thought what harm could it do?
At the moment I have in hair extensions that are slightly curly/wavy and over the length of time I have had them in they have lost a lot of their bounce and seem a bit deflated. As I can wash my hair extensions like normal hair I decided to use this Umberto Giannini conditioner as the packaging states "With curls, its all about avoiding the frizz but keeping the curl. Umberto Giannini Curl Friends Shampoo provides detangling and gentle cleansing to condition and cushion your curls."
*** Process ***
I washed my hair with my warm water and shampoo and gave it a good rinse and wash. I then wringed my hair and patted it semi-dry with a towel.
I then poured about a huge dollop in the palm of my hand and thoroughly applied the conditioner in the palm of my hand and applied it liberally from root to end all over my hair. I repeated this twice as I have a lot of hair and volume when my hair extenstions are also taken into consideration and so I wanted it all to be covered!
I sat with it on my hair for about 10 minutes on, and a shower cap on. I normally do this as I like to let it soak in and normally when I go to the hairdressers this is the process they do with me, so I like to attempt to recreate the same feel when I do these DIY jobs at home!
I then rinsed my hair of the conditioner completely and applying some hair protector serum I blow dried my hair.
*** Results ***
Afterwards I was extremely happy with the results! My hair and extenstions felt a lot softer after using this conditioner! I would definitely say it helped to add more bounce and curls to my hair extensions so I was very surprised it did! I would probably say even back to the original state as when I first got the hair extensions first put in which I was impressed by....got my money's worth on this factor alone!
My hair wasn't left dry, brittle, or frizzy at all as it has done in the past when I have used other conditioners. In fact it turned out quite soft, and slightly silky! It is not quite as glossy as I would have hoped for, but for the small price I paid I find it a really good conditioner. I don't know too much about hair products and I am sure there are probably even better ones out there, but for the offer I got and since I rarely wash my hair myself it'll do perfectly fine! I would recommend it to anyone else with curly or wavy hair/ hair extensions! :)
I decided to buy this conditioner one day ages ago from Boots, because it is called 'curl friends' and I have got curly hair. I read the description on the bottle and it fitted my hair type and what I wanted perfectly. The purple bottle caught my eye in the shop, loving the colour lilac I just couldn't resist! It cost me £4.89 and gained me 16 points on my advantage card.
The conditioner itself feels quite rich in texture and it is quite creamy. It is easy to spread it throughout the hair so that it is even all over. It contains waxes that moisturise and hydrate the hair. When you rinse this out if you look in the mirror as the water is rinsing through you will see that it looks really glossy. If you want to keep it this glossy when it is dry then my tip would be to rinse it with freezing cold water and then blow dry it on the cold setting. But even if you don't do this the hair still looks shiny.
So the hair is left looking shiny . . . but are the curls lovely and bouncy as you would expect from a conditioner that calls itself 'curl friends'?
This is so rich that for some reason it seems to flatten my curls slightly, so that they aren't as volumous. This is probably because it takes away all of the frizz out of my hair. I don't think I would say this is exactly a really bad thing, since the hair looks glossy, is smooth and shiny. But I would prefer the curls to be a bit less flattened.
The smell to this conditioner isn't that apparent to be honest. It is quite faint and I would say that even though it smells clean, it isn't the nicest fragrance that I have ever come across, in fact I think this would be better if it had a different fragrance.
Overall I would recommend this, as I think I would probably buy it again if I saw it on offer.
Not a friend, not an enemy, more of an acquiantance you get along with.
Thanks for reading xo
First impressions of this conditioner are that it looks delicious. I know that may sound like a strange thought to have when looking at a conditioner for your hair, but the bottle is see through making the pale baby pink coloured conditioner visible. Although obviously the consistency is completely different - it really does remind me of candyfloss!
One of my favourite things about the Umberto Giannini range is the unusual shaped bottles! All the shampoo's and conditioner's are in tall long thin round slightly grey/white see through bottles with a large shiny silver bullet shaped lid. I love how recognisable the product is and as I'm used to very normal brands such as Vo5 I love how fancy I feel using such a lovely product!
It's really easy when identifying these products, the products for curly hair are all pink, for straight hair look for blue, for shiny hair head for the yellow, green products add volume, and for blondes and brunettes, look for gold and brown respectively.
But back to the conditioner, the directions say: 'Shampoo and remove excess moisture. Using the flats of the hands or a comb, smooth the conditioner evenly through the hair. Massage carefully by adding a little water. Rinse thoroughly and follow with curl friends styling products. The proffesional tip says: For even smoother hair, use cool water for a final rinse.' I have to say rinsing your hair with anything other than warm water feels extremely unnatural but afterwards my hair definitely felt smoother and actually looked shinier! Also, because of how thick the conditioner is, a very very small blob is enough but it is very tempting to squeeze out far more than you need! Less is more an all that!!
My absolute favourite thing about this conditioner is the smell! I'm completely useless at describing smells, but please believe me when I say it's delicious!!! When I've used this conditioner, my boyfriend will just sit and sniff my head, he, like me, can't get enough of it! But in addition to the smell, this product really is wonderful. Although my hair is only wavy, my sister has extremely curly hair - and we both suffer from frizz. With this product, my hair becomes smooth and my waves are softer and more pronounced, and my sister finds that her curls are springier, softer and much more manageable!
The consistency of this product is also unlike any other I have ever used. It is not a gel, it's a much thicker and is very creamy. My hair is slightly wavy, but extremely thick and stubborn and I find that after using this conditioner, it is much more susceptible to styling - particularly scrunching with Umberto Gianinni scrunching jelly.
I find this works best if I use a comb in the shower, thus avoiding having to brush my hair once out of the shower. This is something I think works to avoid frizz in most cases, if you make sure you do not brush your hair when it is wet, frizz is avoidable. But back to the curl friends comb conditioner, it really is a good product. My sister, who has very curly hair also uses it and says it makes her curls more manageable.
In boots, you can find this conditioner for £4.49 for a 250ml bottle, but there are regular offers on. Like right now (02/04/10) it is on offer for 2 for £7 which is really good. You can get a mini, 75ml bottle of the conditioner for £1.65 if you wanted to try it before buying an entire bottle which is quite useful! And just in case someone wanted to know, the matching shampoo is available for £4.49 as well.
There are also regular 3 for 2 offers on this line, and boots regularly give out £2 hair care vouchers which can be used on Umberto Giannini products - plus you get boots points which is always nice. I recommend this product if you are looking for an easy manageable loose curled style and rate is 4/5.
I've been experimenting with the curly look recently so when I saw Umberto Giannini's Curl Friends range I was thrilled- a range of products which claims to 'do what they say'. And this 'super rich conditioner' claims to give you 'the glossiest frizz-free curls and waves' whether your hair is naturally curly or straight. For a mere conditioner that seems like a pretty big claim but being the advertisers' dream that I am, I stocked up on this, filled with naïve gullibility.
The Curl Friends range is packaged to appeal to the girly girls among us: the conditioner itself is pale pink and this is complimented by silver writing and a silver lid. All in all, the packaging looks very classy. It's a shame really then, that the packaging is so unmistakably phallic that it draws many smirking, witty comments from everyone from fellow shoppers, to check-out people, to housemates. But in terms of sheer practicality, the packaging of this product is very disappointing. Remove the silver lid, and to get the conditioner out you have to squeeze the bottle very hard. While this design is fine for shampoo, for a thicker conditioner it just doesn't work! Getting that last little bit out of the bottle is going to be a nightmare!
Well, let's move on from the disastrous packaging and onto the product itself. Considering the girly girl target market, I can't help wondering why it's fragranced like men's aftershave! If you've ever smelt Jean Paul Gaultier Classique for men, it smells exactly like that- there's no mistaking the masculine smell! I love the scent on a man, but on me? No way!
Once you've finally got it out of the bottle, it spreads nicely in your hands and does feel quite rich. It massages into the hair nicely and rinses out easily. However, the actual results it achieved with my hair were distinctly unimpressive. Despite being called a 'super rich' conditioner, it didn't moisturise my hair any more than my normal conditioner and I actually found that my hair was more frizzy than normal. In terms of its curling effect, I didn't find that this actually created curls in my hair, although it did make styling my hair in curls slightly easier. But don't be fooled that this on it's own will create tumbling sexy curls- I need to use Frizz-Ease, scrunching jelly and curling mousse after using this conditioner to achieve the effect I want!
Priced at £4.49 for 250ml, this is a reasonably expensive conditioner, putting it on a par price-wise with Nicky Clarke, Aussie, Toni & Guy and the like. I think I'll be sticking to my regular Aussie conditioner in future!
Products that 'do what they say'? Don't believe everything you hear!
I have used curl friends shampoo, conditioner, mousse and balsam for several years now and even when I lived in South America I travelled back from the UK loaded down with a year's worth of the products. I have long naturally curly hair and these products have done a great job of taming the frizz and making my hair softer, with my cork screw curls well defined. I love the smell of it too!BUT this year they've changed the formula, and now the conditioner is nowhere near as good as it was, I don't even want to use it any more. My problem now is to find another product that does that job that Umberto Giannini has done for the last 6 or 7 years for me!!
From having naturally wavy/curly hair I find it very hard to tame my locks! Since buying a pair of ceramic straightners I've found myself straightning my curls out all the time after washing my hair but I've recently realised that by doing this I'm loosing my curls which makes my hair even harder to look after when I come out of the shower! If I keep on using my straightners after washing my locks, not only will my hair become damaged, I will also loose my curls. Many people with curly hair would think this is super and that is what I thought to begin with but now I realise that I am actually quite gifted! I can have straight or curly hair whenever it suits me and curly hair is definitely more classier this summer! This leads me on to talk about a new shampoo and conditioner range I've recently bought. The range is UMBERTO GIANNINI. I had never heard of this range before I bought some products from it and I have to say I've been very pleased with the products and how well they work. I bought three simple products to start with and I am yet to go back and buy some more. The shampoo and conditioner for curly hair looked interesting so I bought them along with the scrunching gel. They were on offer at the time in BOOTS. I managed to buy all three products for just under ten pounds which was a bargain for how well they work. I also managed to nab a few points onto my boots advantage card ~ Always handy!!! I might as well write about all three products instead of just the conditioner as they're all pretty simalar... The first products you use are the shampoo and conditioner in the shower. The shampoo is called UMBERTO GIANNINI CURL FRIENDS KEEP CALM SHAMPOO: What first attracted me to the range itself was the packaging of the products, the bottles were bright, attractive and distinctive. The shampoo was in a reasonably tall bottle with clear plastic to see the pink shampoo in the bottle and a silver
rounded lid. The writing on the product was on the clear plastic part. It included a saying, ' FOR THE GLOSSIEST FRIZZ-FREE CURLS AND WAVES' which also interested me. The bottle was 250ml and has lasted since around feb-march time, however I only use the shampoo when I want curly hair, not when I'm going to straighten my hair. The bottle includes some directions on the back: Wet hair and gently massage shampoo throughout hair and scalp. Rinse thoroughly and repeat if you use lots of styling products. Follow with Curl Friends conditioner and styling products. The bottle also has a proffesional tip: Be careful not to over rub and tangle hair while shampooing. Be gentle and always smooth downwards through the hair. The shampoo itself is pink in colour and really thick, much thicker than any normal shampoo. Although the bottle tells you to use quite a lot, I don't think you need that much at all. The shampoo has a distinctive smell, nothing amazing but quite pleasant and the smell will remain in your bathroom for a while after washing which I find quite nice. Next you use the UMBERTO GIANNINI CURL FRIENDS EASY COMB SUPER RICH CONDITIONER: The bottle is exactly the same as the shampoo but you can notice that the conditioner is a different colour. It is still pink but lighter and the conditioner is not a gel, it is more cream like. The bottle has the same saying on the front and is again 250ml. The directions say: Shampoo and remove excess moisture. Using the flats of the hands or a comb, smooth the conditioner evenly through the hair. Massage carefully by adding a little water. Rinse thoroughly and follow with curl friends styling products. The proffesional tip says: For even smoother hair, use cool water for a final rinse. The conditioner itself is very think like the shampoo and I often squeeze out more than is needed from the bottle. You only need the tiniest of blobs even though it seems you need
more ! <br > After leaving the shower, I blow dry my hair using a diffuser to bring out my curls and waves. My hair has bleach in it so sometimes I leave a little conditioner in the ends of my hair. after blow drying my hair the curls are bouncy and you can see the shampoo and conditioner has made a difference but my hair often needs to be lifted a little and so I use another Umberto Giannini product: UMBERTO GIANNINI CURL FRIENDS SCRUNCHING JELLY. This product is brilliant, it really creates bouncier curls in seconds. The bottle is like any normal squeezy hair product and is a pink gel. It says on the front of the bottle: SUPER HOLD CURL CREATOR TO TEASE AND FORM CURLS AND WAVES. It has 200ml of gel and has lasted me since feb-march. I tend to blow dry the gel into my hair with my diffuser and then it acts as a hair spray for the curls. However the directions on the bottle read as follows: Apply to towel dried hair. Dispense gel into hands, rub hands together and smooth through hair section by section. Shape with fingers and scrunch dry naturally or blow dry with a diffuser for desired look. The proffesional tip reads: Use rollers, pins or braids to position hair and allow to dry naturally as an alternative look. These three products really help to cut down on frizziness with my hair and make it look half decent although very wild! I really do recomend the products. I bought them from BOOTS but have seen them in other well known retailers. Umberto Giannini has products for all hair types so if you're not curly, maybe you can try another of his products! I bought all three products on offer, however at normal and individual prices the products can be a bit pricy. I think each product is around £4-5 which all adds up when you buy more than one product!! I hope I've helped anyone and thanks for reading, here is an address or telephone number if you wish to receive anymore information on the products I have writte

My hair is a bit of an obsession as is cutting back my outgoings so recently I have been trying out lots of high street hair shampoos and conditioners. I stumbled across this Umberto Gianni Curl Friends Conditioner by accident. I work in the music industry and travel quite a bit whilst some of the artists are on tour so tend to live out of a suitcase for so many days each week. I was in Glasgow last month for a rather important show. I wanted to look my best but on getting to my hotel realised I'd forgotten amongst other necessities my shampoo and conditioner. Luckily I was in the city centre and trotted off to Boots. I'll be honest I do always steer towards the higher end of the cosmetic market, you tend to get what you pay for but recently I've been looking at ways on using chemist cosmetics rather than the luxurious, department store leading brands to help save a bob or two. On getting to the haircare aisle in Boots I am attracted to the large selection of travel size items, perfect for someone like me who travels regularly but likes to travel as light as possible. There were quite a few to choose from but I opt for the Umberto Giannini range. Why? The packaging is luxurious, the price seems reasonable but most importantly the description on the front of the tube describes exactly what my hair at this moment in time requires: 'Curl Friends Easy Comb Super Rich Conditioner - for the glossiest, frizz-free curls and waves' I'm sold. At £1.49 for a 50ml miniature tube if this stuff lives up to it's description it'll be cheap at half the price. Back at my hotel, hair washed and ready for the conditioner I grab the tube and squeeze. Problem number 1: The tube is identical to a small toothpaste tube so the thick cream has difficulty getting out. I have long shoulder length, thick curls so getting enough conditioner from the tube is a little time consuming. The conditioner itself is thick b
ut not silky nor creamy as with most conditioners and I found that I needed loads of this stuff to have my hair evenly covered. The smell of the conditioner resembles furniture polish, but in the quest for (as the bottle states) 'glossy, frizz-free curls' I continue. After working the conditioner through my locks for around 5 minutes (which you should do with most conditioners in hair of my length and type) I start rinsing. The product is removed easily with warm water but after rinsing my hair is in no better state than when I started! My hair feels unconditioned. I might have well just shampooed it, saved my £1.49 and not bothered! Disappointed and with my hair still tangled and dry feeling I opt for a ponytail. Get dressed and go off and enjoy my show, self conscious I should add that my hair looks and feels like shit! So there you have it. My experience of Umberto Giannini's Curl Friends Conditioner. I can tell ya' he's no friend of mine, nor my hair! The pretty, half empty tube still nests in my bathroom but I think it's be better off in my bin. I wont be using this product again and I certainly wouldn't recommend it - it was useless. One final note the tube does boast that Umberto Giannini is an 'Award Winning British Hairdresser' well I bet he never uses this rubbish on his clients heads - they'd run a mile! Umberto Giannini Curl friend Easy Comb Conditioner 250ml £4.45 The claim ~~~~~~~ So you want beautiful, frizz free, curly hair, with incredible shine and movement? Curl Friends is a regime that cares for, styles and holds curls and waves for beautiful, catwalk hair. It's easy and what's more, these products are for natural, permed or heat styled hair. This never seen before range gives you the curls you desire. Try Umberto Giannini Curl friends Easy Comb Super Rich Conditioner for the glossiest frizz free curls & waves. Where to buy it ~~~~~~~~~~ It costs £4.45 from Boots, it's also available in Sainsburys. The packaging ~~~~~~~~~ This is the best (and most amusing part) of the conditioner. The bottles in Umberto Giannini's range are extremely phallic - tall slim bottles with very large silver caps that resemble bullet ends. When I took this bottle home my boyfriend did ask what on earth I bought back! Also, as this conditioner is pink it adds extra comedy value. I suppose the bottle is supposed to be stylish but it just amuses me. Instructions ~~~~~~~ Shampoo, rinse, towel dry and 'massage' through then rinse off. The amount you use will vary on the condition and length of your hair. Start with a dollop the size of 50p and use more if you need to - I think I use about 4 times this much! I must admit I don't massage through and I always leave my conditioner on for about a minute or so. The conditioner itself ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's pearly pink and of a thicker consistency that I'd expect for a regular conditioner so you have to squeeze the bottle to get it out. It has a strong very sweet smell that I can't quite put my finger on - smells too strong for me. The results ~~~~~~~ This is where the product falls down. I have long curly highlighted hair with a tendency for frizz and tangles. Thi
s conditioner often leaves a coating on my hair that makes it feel drier and it doesn't help with the detangling at all. It's better than using no conditioner at all but only just. I wash and condition my hair every day (erring on the side of being overgenerous with a large helping of conditioner) and this is one of the most disappointing conditioners I've used for a while. On the plus side - it does keep the curl in your hair -some conditioners 'weigh' my hair down and I loose the curl without gaining the sleekness of straight hair. There is, of course, a shampoo too much but I haven't tried it and won't be after my bad experience with this conditioner. The conclusion ~~~~~~~~~~' I won't be buying this again - it's not cheap and it just didn't work for me. The hunt for the perfect conditioner continues..
