“ Brand: Umberto Giannini / Sprays / Type: Hair Mist / What it does: Protects, „
I might as well say this first to get it out of the way, I absolutely love this product and really want everyone else to love it too!! It is from the Umberto Gianinni range and it easily identifiable on the shelves at it is in the familiar cylinder can with a shiny rounded silver bullet shaped lid. The main can is a baby blue colour, typical of the section of the range aimed at straight hair. One of the things I really like about this make is the way the bottles are colour coded to who they are aimed at. For example, the blue products are for straight hair, pink is for wavy or curly hair, yellow if for shiny hair and green is for volume. This makes it very easy to pick out the product you are looking for.
The product claims to be "a must have product for all heat stylers, weightless and invisible protection" and I have to say I agree. The product claims to be for all hair types, but I can obviously only comment on its effectiveness on long thick and slightly wavy/kinked hair. The directions for use are as follows: "shake can well and spray lightly from approx. 30cm through dry hair before heat styling" and the product also states that you can reapply the product before further styling the next day! This is extremely useful as it means if you've straightened your hair, you can still protect it each time you go over it with your straighteners. This is something a lot of heat protection products do not do because they often leave a sticky residue or make your hair look greasy which this light mist does not do.
Although I am in danger of sounding like a giddy child, my favourite about this product is the noise the mist makes when it lands on your hair. It fizzes and the sound makes me chuckle every single time! I know that the noise is no reason to buy something, but I really did want to describe this aspect of the product because I think it's awesome!
Ok, once I have dried my hair (I use L'oreal Hot straight cream to protect my hair at this point) I tie some of my hair up as I have to straighten it in layers so I spray the protection mist over each layer, allow it to dry (perhaps 30 seconds, to prevent the sizzling sound when the heat touches) then straighten it, and then continue this until my whole head is completed. I really love the smell of Umberto Giannini products and this particular product is no exception! Its a difficult smell to describe, but I really love it.
My hair is prone to split ends so I have no idea whether this product actually has any effect of protecting you from this, however I am 100% certain that when using this product, my hair looks AND feels much more healthy. Also, the next day my hair doesn't feel dry, which is used to before I discovered this spray.
Protecting your hair is something I think is extremely important. Unfortunately, there is one thing which I think lets this product down and that is the fact that it doesn't last very long, especially if you have very thick hair. Straightening or curling my hair, say twice a week, uses up the entire can within around a month, which isn't completely awful but definitely doesn't last as long as I would like, however I absolutely love it so I don't really mind.
Umberto Gianinni makes some of my favourite products as although they are expensive, there are usually decent offers on in boots, and you get your boots points so its win-win!! A 200ml can at boots costs £4.69 but like I said, there are regular offers such as 2 for £7 or 3 for 2 which makes them quite reasonable. 100% recommended!
Umberto Giannini is a well known hair-dresser and is also well known for making hair products and electrical beauty items such and hair-dryers, tongs and straighteners. His products are not found in salons but are available to buy form places such as Boots, Superdrug and local super-markets as well. The Umberto range is affordable and of great quality to suit all hair types.
***SLEEK AND CHIC RANGE***
The Heat protection mist is part of the Sleek and Chic range which comes in blue packaging and bottles. In this range you can buy Blow-dry Cream, Shampoo, Conditioner and serum. The Sleek and Chic range is made for straight hair. All styling products are available in 2 different sizes which are normally 250ml for the bigger styling products or you can buy mini versions of these for about £1.60, which are normally on offer in Boots which are 3 for 2.
***HEAT PROTECTION MIST***
This heat Protection mist comes in 2 sizes which is 200ml and a mini version which is 30ml and great to take whilst travelling. The large bottle which I am reviewing comes in a metal pale blue can with a dome shaped plastic lid. The writing on the front of the can is kept simple and on the back you will find information about the product. On the back of the can it does say that this product is for all hair types. When you take the silver plastic lid off this will reveal another small, blue plastic lid which you simply take off to reveal the spray button to activate the mist.
***USING THE PRODUCT***
To use the product simply shake the can well and spray lightly from approx 30cm through dry hair before heat styling. You can also reapply this to hair the next day for further styling according to the back of the can.
When spraying this into my hair it was a nice, fine mist which came out and sprayed evenly over my hair. It smelt quite pleasant and didn't smell of chemicals or strong, off-putting smells either. After spraying this into my hair I simply used the hair straighteners to style my hair as normal. This spray left my hair feeling soft, shiny and healthy and it didn't leave my hair feeling dry either. Through-out the day my hair remained quite straight and didn't go greasy unlike some other heat protection spray's which I have used in the past.
I was also very surprised when going to style my hair the next day as I thought my hair would feel a bit greasy from using this product but it didn't feel greasy at all and the product didn't leave any residue in my hair either. Even after using this spray on my hair the following morning and then using the straighteners my hair maintained the healthy, shiny look to it and again y hair stayed reasonably straight all day.
This is available from Boots, Superdrug and some local super-markets. Prices do vary but you can pick up the 200ml can from Boots for about £4.69 and the miniature can's cost approx £1.70 each but are sometimes on offer in boots on 3 for 2, which is very good value.
This is by far the best Heat protection Mist I have used for my hair to maintain moisture, and to keep my hair protected from using my hair straighteners. This spray did not damage, dry out or make my hair greasy and my hair stayed straight through-out the day as well. Although I personally wouldn't use the shampoo and conditioner in this range because I use other shampoo, I would definitely recommend you to try other products in the range as I was so please with this spray. This is a spray I have been using for over 3 years now and I will continue to buy it to keep my hair protected when using heating/styling tools.

I like to use a heat protection spray on my hair as I regularly straighten it, and although I can never tell if the sprays are actually working, using them makes me feel a lot less guilty about using so much heat on my hair!
I bought Umberto Giannini's Love it Straight heat protection mist simply because I had a voucher for money off the range and my last spray was running out. I must admit I am not particularly a fan of the Umberto Giannini range - I have used a handful of products, but never really found one I loved.
This product is from the Sleek and Chic range, and indeed the packaging is just that. It comes in a baby blue aerosol can with grey and silver writing, and has a silver domed lid. When you remove this lid, strangely enough, it then has a second lid which is just made from clear plastic. I have no idea why it needs two, seems a bit of a waste to me!
To use this, you simply spray it through dry hair before heat styling. The fact they advise to put it on dry hair would indicate it's no good for blow drying, but I must admit, I've put it on damp hair and the results seem to have been the same (although like I said, it's very hard to tell if these things are working or not).
As you spray this it comes out in a fine mist and makes a strange crackling/fizzing sound as it touches your hair! It has a pleasant slightly powdery yet floral scent, but I have found that this doesn't really last on your hair.
The packaging describes this as weightless and invisible protection and I would say that is pretty accurate. I was previously using Aussie's heat protection spray which left my hair sticky and weighed down. This one in contrast left no stickiness or residue and left my hair feeling light, so I was free to style it the way I wanted.
As for whether or not it actually protected my hair from heat, it's hard to say. I haven't noticed it becoming any more damaged recently, so hopefully it has been working.
A 174g can of this costs £4.69 from Boots. I bought mine with a discount voucher and I don't think I would pay the full price. There are cheaper sprays around that do the same job, but if you're looking for one that is particularly light and weightless and won't interfere with any other styling product you use, then this is well worth a try.
