Advantages: smells nice, doesn't weigh hair down, doesn't interfere with other styling products

Disadvantages: a bit expensive for what it is, hard to tell if it's working

I like to use a heat protection spray on my hair as I regularly straighten it, and although I can never tell if the sprays are actually working, using them makes me feel a lot less guilty about using so much heat on my hair!

I bought Umberto Giannini's Love it Straight heat protection mist simply because I had a voucher for money off the range and my last spray was running out. I must admit I am not particularly a fan of the Umberto Giannini range - I have used a handful of products, but never really found one I loved.

This product is from the Sleek and Chic range, and indeed the packaging is just that. It comes in a baby blue aerosol can with grey and silver writing, and has a silver domed lid. When you remove this lid, strangely enough, it then has a second lid which is just made from clear plastic. I have no idea why it needs two, seems a bit of a waste to me!

To use this, you simply spray it through dry hair before heat styling. The fact they advise to put it on dry hair would indicate it's no good for blow drying, but I must admit, I've put it on damp hair and the results seem to have been the same (although like I said, it's very hard to tell if these things are working or not).

As you spray this it comes out in a fine mist and makes a strange crackling/fizzing sound as it touches your hair! It has a pleasant slightly powdery yet floral scent, but I have found that this doesn't really last on your hair.

The packaging describes this as weightless and invisible protection and I would say that is pretty accurate. I was previously using Aussie's heat protection spray which left my hair sticky and weighed down. This one in contrast left no stickiness or residue and left my hair feeling light, so I was free to style it the way I wanted.

As for whether or not it actually protected my hair from heat, it's hard to say. I haven't noticed it becoming any more damaged recently, so hopefully it has been working.

A 174g can of this costs £4.69 from Boots. I bought mine with a discount voucher and I don't think I would pay the full price. There are cheaper sprays around that do the same job, but if you're looking for one that is particularly light and weightless and won't interfere with any other styling product you use, then this is well worth a try.

Summary: fizzzzzzzzzzzzz
