Advantages: Clean, fresh, healthy looking shiny hair
Disadvantages: Premium priced, potential for wastage due to bottle design
I tend not to stick to the same shampoos and conditioners and like to try a variety of different brands. Therefore when I go shopping to places like Boots and Superdrug and there are offers on these types of products I really can't help myself but buy "something new". On a recent shopping trip I was looking for shampoo (and conditioner) that I could fit in my travel bag as we were going to visit Mr Lools' parent. I noticed when browsing the aisles of Boots that the Umberto Giannini hair care range had a 3 for 2 offer on it so I was straight over to investigate. The packaging met the "transportable" criteria therefore I found myself with a bottle of shampoo and two bottles of conditioner which included Umberto Giannini Spa Rituals Detoxifying Shampoo.
*** Umberto Giannini Spa Rituals Detoxifying Shampoo***
Umberto Giannini Spa Rituals Detoxifying Shampoo is described to be "a deeply cleansing shampoo which removes all the unwanted residue from your hair gently and effectively and is mild enough not to over strip and tangle. Suitable for all hair types."
The product is described to be "deliciously fragranced" and includes purifying extracts of rosemary and thyme.
I was very keen to choose a more "gentle" hair product. My hair is currently in quite a dry condition due to it being regularly highlighted. Recently my scalp has also felt quite tight and irritated, not too the extent of suffering dandruff but almost as if shampoo was still left on my scalp therefore a shampoo which prevented product build up sounded perfect.
The shampoo comes in a 250ml bottle. This is a long thin circular tube like bottle with a screw off matt gold lid. The bottle itself is a light cream colour with a rounded tip gold lid. The font on the front of the bottle is gold with scripted like handwriting. The bottle has a very luxurious feel because of the colours and simplicity of the bottle design which looks great displayed in the bathroom.
This fit my "transportable" criteria as in my opinion the lid felt secure. The design of the bottle also meant that because it is long and slim it easily fits in my wash bag. Obviously for shorter overnight trips you may find you want a more compact very small travel sized shampoo. Umberto Giannini do offer a 50ml sized bottle of the shampoos and conditioners but the Spa Rituals Detoxifying Shampoo is a product from the range that is not yet available in this smaller sized bottle.
Spa Rituals Detoxifying Shampoo is available from Boots stores and online. You can also purchase this shampoo from Amazon. A 250ml bottle from Boots costs £5.61. Because the shampoo comes from a "salon quality" brand it does carry a higher price tag. However when included in a 3 for 2 hair care offer it does make it more affordable and I feel three bottles of "salon quality" shampoos and conditioners for £11.00 is good value.
Although the product claims to be a "mild" product the shampoo itself is quite heavily fragranced which surprised me. As soon as I unscrewed the lid of the shampoo in the shower I did notice quite a strong floral type scent and the scent of rosemary and thyme was anything but subtle. It was not unpleasant but more overpowering than many shampoos I have used.
The tube shaped bottle does not have a standard dispenser type design where you squeeze product out of the bottle you need to tip it out of the neck of the bottle which is about the size of a 5p coin. With wet hands and if you are in a shower with no ledge to rest the bottle or lid or there is the potential for spillage. Because the neck of the bottle is quite wide if you do not take care you could pour out too much shampoo. The consistency of the shampoo is thicker than many shampoos I have used so has quite a thick jelly like consistency meaning the shampoo does free flow out of the bottle but dispensing this shampoo is quite an art.
The shampoo itself is a white creamy colour. It is quite a thick consistency and spreads through hair easily. I have thick hair which reaches half way down my back and I use about a 50p sized amount of this shampoo. The scent of the shampoo is still strong and quite floral when it is being rubbed into your hair and almost has a medicinal scent to it because of the herbs.
Once massaged into the hair and scalp it creates quite a thick soapy lather but this is very easy to rinse out of hair and does not take any longer than any other shampoo.
Once I had rinsed all of the shampoo out of my hair I was surprised at just how clean my hair felt. It has almost a squeaky clean type feel. My hair although wet felt very fresh and totally free from any residue. My usual shampoo usually offer high shine and leave quite a slippy heavy feeling on wet hair whereas with Umberto Giannini Spa Rituals Detoxifying Shampoo it felt wet but a lot lighter.
I have used this shampoo with a variety of conditioners including one from the Umberto Giannini Spa Rituals Conditioner range and the results were equally as impressive. Although the shampoo did have a very strong scent in the bottle and when it was being massaged into hair, once it was rinsed the scent is less medicinal and overpowering.
On wet/ damp hair and when I was drying my hair I could still smell the shampoo but this was a very natural earthy scent and the scent of thyme was apparent rather than the initial floral scent. As I was drying my hair I could notice a very clean feel. Once my hair was completely dry I did feel my hair was a lot cleaner feeling than with other shampoos. My hair felt very soft and smooth but also very light feeling. My hair was not at all flyaway but it felt less weighed down than when I use shampoos that offer high shine.
My hair did not have a gloss like shine but still had a very natural healthy looking shine to it but I noticed it looked very clean. My hair is currently very dry but after using this shampoo I did feel it looked and felt less dry and had more bounce to it. Although my hair is generally quite dry I do find with some shampoos I suffer greasy roots therefore have to wash my hair daily (even though my hairdresser has advised to do every other day to help combat dry ends). With the Umberto Giannini Spa Rituals Detoxifying Shampoo my hair looks and feels clean enough to allow me to wash my hair every other day. This alone has probably helped the condition of my hair and made it less dry as it means I do not have to blow dry it every day.
Since using Umberto Giannini Spa Rituals Detoxifying Shampoo my scalp has not been at all irritated. Even from the first use of this shampoo my scalp did not have a tight dry feeling and it did not feel as if shampoo had built up on my scalp.
I was very impressed with Umberto Giannini Spa Rituals Detoxifying Shampoo and would definitely recommend it. It is not my usual "type" of shampoo as I would usually opt for a product that offers "high shine" with less natural and gentle claims however the results were just as good as products I have used which make claims of "high shine". Because of the "salon brand" it is does carry a higher than average price tag for shampoo but is definitely a worthwhile buy especially when purchased on special offer.
A great salon quality shampoo suitable for all hair types (including colour treated hair) for everyday use that offers soft, extremely clean feeling shiny hair that stays clean all day. Five stars!
