“ Brand: V05 / Type: Hair Shampoo / Subcategory: Gloss / What it does: Smoothes, „
My hair is quite dry and can get very frizzy. I do a lot of exercise and am always washing and drying my hair so it does have an impact on it.
I always try out new products hoping to find one that has a miracle cure so when I saw this on offer in my local supermarket recently I thought id give it a go.
The one I bought was a 250ml bottle. It was on offer for £1 which I thought was really good value. The bottle is really good it looks more expensive than it is and its bright pink color automatically attracts you to it. The conditioner Is the same design except that bottle is white in color. I like the fact that they are different colors so you don't get mixed up with which is which in the shower.
The shampoo bottle is well designed it has a flip top which is really easy to open. The logo is on the front
The packaging suggested that you also use the conditioner as most shampoos do. I had bought the conditioner too so did intend to do this.
When I used it for the first time I followed the instructions which were the same as normal. Basically I wet my hair and then applied a small amount of the shampoo and lathered it up. I then rinsed it off. The smell was lovely and filled the whole bathroom, it was a kind of fruity smell.
The fact that the bottle had a flip lid was good and made it easy to use. I found that I didn't really need much to get a good lather so the bottle will last well.
The shampoo is thick in consistency and seemed to leave my hair soft and smooth once I had dried it. It did still go a bit frizzy but I think it is definitely less than normal.
I would definitely use this shampoo again and have recommended it to friends.
I am a big fan of the VO5 range of hair products and one of the recent shampoos I used was this 'gloss me smoothly' version.
The shampoo retails for around £2 for a bottle, which I find reasonable as the shampoo will last around a month as you only need a small amount to obtain a good lather. The shampoo itself is a pearly white colour with a light fresh fragrance, which you apply to the lengths of the hair. The thing I love about this shampoo is how easily it rinses out, I never find that it leaves any residue in my hair and you don't have to spend a long time working to rinse it out either. The shampoo states that it helps to banish frizz and unlock shine for sleek glossy hair. I have found that this shampoo does seem to stop my hair being frizzy and does leave hair soft and smooth.
Overall I give this shampoo a 5/5, I have no problems with it at all!
I am not brand loyal when it comes to shampoos and conditioners. I tend to buy whatever is on offer as long as it is suitable to my hair type. I have coloured hair which is naturally wavy although it can be prone to frizz when wet. My hair really isn't that hard to style so I don't need anything intensive in terms of the shampoo or conditioner that I use which makes it easy to buy them. As long as they leave my hair soft, supple and looking incredibly healthy then I am perfectly happy!
I recently did a review on the V05 Glossy Me Smoothly Conditioner so thought it was only fit that I should review the matching shampoo also. When I do buy a shampoo and conditioner I do try and buy the matching ones as I do feel that by using the same shampoo and conditioner that you can get better results that and they always tend to be on offer at the same time! The V05 Gloss Me Smoothly Shampoo like the conditioner has been formulated to help tame frizzy, wild locks and to help soften and smooth the hair.
The shampoo itself comes in a 500ml bright pink pearlescent bottle which is exactly the same as the conditioner just that it is a different colour - all V05 shampoos in the same range are pink in colour and the conditioners are white. On the front of the bottle there is the V05 logo together with minimal pink patterning along with the product name. On the back there is a small amount of information about the shampoo along with the list of extensive ingredients and contact information for V05.
The shampoo has quite a thick consistency which almost has the texture of a thick gel which I find quite strange compared to other shampoos that I have used as once you have squeezed it out of the bottle it sits on your hand and almost wobbles like jelly! It is white in colour which seems to have a pearlescent finish to it. However, the aroma is incredibly nice. V05 use jasmine and orange flower and this aroma is definitely quite floral with a fruity undertone and is lovely.
The shampoo is easy to apply to the hair despite it's initial thickness as once on wet hair it seems to be easily massaged through the hair which is nice and you can instantly feel the hair start to soften just as you would when using a conditioner. Again, rinsing this shampoo is easy and it doesn't take long to rinse everything out leaving clean and shampoo free hair for the conditioner. Even before applying the conditioner the hair remains incredibly soft and tangle free.
V05 use satin silk extracts together with jasmine and orange flower which all help not only to help give more of a sleek look as well as giving a healthy shine but does it actually work in this shampoo? No, not really! After finishing off my hair in the usual way and blow drying it I found that despite being thoroughly washed out my hair wasn't its normal soft and supple self when blow drying and as for giving more of a sleek look it made absolutely no difference to my hair after just blow drying my hair and it felt that there was a slight residue left on my hair.
I didn't want to be put off but even after styling my hair with my straighteners my hair felt as if it hadn't been washed properly as it felt odd to the touch although soft it didn't feel as soft as normal and whilst my hair was easy to straighten it did feel that my hair needed washing again. I have continued to use this shampoo quite a few times just to see whether on the first use I hadn't washed it all out of my hair but unfortunately I kept getting the same results. It did absolutely nothing for my hair, it didn't give the sleek look together with a healthy sheen but instead it was looking quite lifeless and resulted in me washing my hair more than I used to.
Whilst the fragrance of this shampoo is lovely and it does remain on the hair even after styling the shampoo just doesn't do what it offers which is a real shame considering it is by a well known brand but it seems that I am not the only one who has had problems with it. I gave the rest to my other half as I know he isn't bothered about what shampoo he uses as I just couldn't use it any longer! Would I recommend? No, not at all especially considering it isn't the cheapest shampoo, it may be just avoid it and spend your money elsewhere. 1 star I feel is suitable simply because of the lovely fragrance.

Availability: Pharmacies, supermarkets and discount stores
Alberto VO5 offer a range of hair care products.
~Gloss Me Smoothly~
Gloss Me Smoothly Shampoo (conditioner is also available) has an 'Adaptive Haircare Technology' which should provide your hair with nourishment where it is needed. This shampoo is aimed at those with frizzy hair. After using this shampoo, hair should be more manageable and frizz should be under control. VO5 also promise shiny hair. This shampoo is enriched with satin silk and essential oils including apricot oil and jojoba oil.
This shampoo is presented in a bright pink bottle which is shaped a little like a wine bottle. The bottle is made of plastic and is not see through so there is the difficulty of determining how much shampoo is left. A label offers the relevant product information. The shampoo is dispensed via a push down cap at the top of the bottle. The bottle can be recycled and this shampoo has a 12month shelf life. If find the packaging to be functional and fairly attractive.
~Price and Availability~
This range of shampoo and conditioners includes specific products for different hair types. Gloss Me Smoothly is available in two sizes - 250ml and 500ml. It is stocked in stores including Boots and Tesco. Expect to pay around £3.50 for the 500ml and £2.00 for the 250ml. I have also spotted this range in pound shops so it is worth looking around for!
We go through a lot of shampoo and conditioner in our house so I stock up when I spot special offers. I bought this VO5 shampoo and one of the conditioners (not the matching one as it wasn't available at the time of purchase) from Tesco last month as I was running low on my other shampoo. Tesco, incidentally, have them on offer until the 28th of August reduced to £1.00 a bottle (250ml size). This represents good value for money.
I chose the frizzy hair shampoo as my hair is generally frizzy and really dry. I have found this shampoo to be perfect fine for everyday use as it is light weight. It is suitable for the whole family to use and my fiance is currently using this shampoo too (he just has normal hair). This shampoo has a good consistency. It is quite thick and a glossy white colour. I use quite a large size blob for my long, thick hair and find that it lathers up well and forms a thick, silky feeling lather.
This shampoo carries a lovely scent. It is very fresh and clean with a delicate sweet/floral undertone. It isn't overly feminine so men could carry it off perfectly fine. I find the lather takes a little longer to rinse than other shampoos I have used. It seems to cling to my hair and if I do not rinse it well, it leaves a residue on my hair. The scent lingers on my hair for a short while which is nice.
This shampoo is gentle which is perfect for me as I have a sensitive scalp which often feels itchy after using a new shampoo - it doesn't agitate the dry areas of my scalp either. My hair feels clean and refreshed after each use and I manage to go 2 or 3 days before I really need to rewash my hair - I usually wash every 2 days out of habit! I have noticed my hair doesn't get as greasy so quickly.
I wouldn't say that the results of this shampoo are outstanding. My hair is soft and clean with a hint of shine - it is a little less frizzy but not completely manageable. This shampoo comes with strong claims of delivering hydration where required and it really should do this without the need for conditioner (but of course a conditioner would enhance the results). On the rare occasion that I do not apply conditioner, my brush doesn't go through my hair as well. Personally, I found that this shampoo didn't hydrate my hair anymore than other shampoos and I really did need to use a conditioner for smooth and hydrated locks.
Having used this shampoo for a few weeks, I would say that it is best suited for those with normal/slightly frizzy hair rather than dry/frizzy hair. It cleanses well and smells lovely. I do find myself using more than I would with other shampoos in this price range. I did expect more of a moisture boost for my hair with this shampoo. I will use this again though in conjunction with a decent shampoo.
Thanks for reading :)
This is a review of Vo5's Gloss me smoothly shampoo which promises adaptive hair care technology which sounds quite impressive but it was probably the bright pink bottle which drew me to this on the shelf.
As I mentioned above it is a bright hot pink bottle in a kind of pearlised plastic with the clear V05 label on the front. The lid pops open a bit when you push it in at the top and you squeeze the bottle to get the product out. It doesn't screw off completely (which I prefer for getting to the dregs) but I have to say this is a good non leak bottle and would probably do well as a travelling solution.
This bottle of shampoo is quite small and dinky at 250 ml but larger sizes are available. I paid 0.99p for mine in Home Bargains but I have seen larger bottles when I was looking in Boots at £3.99 earlier this week.
I thought this felt really silky when putting it on my hair. I needed quite a bit to get a lather going and it smelt fresh and clean. It didn't make my hair glossy as such but it was nice and clean after use so I didn't mind so much. I also used it with the conditioner from the range and they both performed well together.
I liked this shampoo and would consider a repeat purchase but I wouldn't be desperate for it if it was no longer available. I thought it was a good price and it lasted me around a fortnight of use every other day. I don't have particularly frizzy hair to start off with and I only like to straighten my hair for special occasions so a lot of the time leave it to naturally dry which never looks that great but I tend to wear it up anyway so you can't tell if it is straightened to the nth degree. I don't like to have greasy hair ever though so regular shampooing is essential.
I would recommend this as a decent shampoo but not particularly as a specialist solution to frizzy hair that needs to be glossy! I love the packaging and think the bottle is a lovely shape and it took up minimal shelf space in the bathroom so gets a decent four out of five stars from me.
I have quite hard to manage hair that is prone to drying out easily and it can also get very frizzy. I did used to use the old VO5 range quite a bit and got on with it really well so when they changed the range totally a few months ago I was a little disappointed. This actually put me of trying the new range as I was not sure which one to try and didn't expect it to work as well. But a few weeks after its launch I spotted it on a great offer in Boots and decided to give the 'Gloss Me Smoothly' Shampoo and Conditioner combination a go.
The shampoo comes in a 250ml bottle, which when I purchased it a few weeks ago in Boots was on special offer for just £1. The normal selling price in Boots is £1.99 so this was a great bargain at half price. They also do larger bottles but with this being my first time of trying the Shampoo I thought I would stick to the smaller bottle.
The shampoo comes in a pearlescent bright pink bottle with a flip top cap. The front of the bottles design is quite simple with the Alberto VO5 logo and the name of the shampoo. It states that the shampoo will 'banish frizz and unlock shine for a sleek and glossy transformation'. It also states that the shampoo has 'adaptive hair care technology'. On the back of the bottle you can find out that this means that the shampoo adjusts to you, giving you the right level of nourishment for your hair. You can also find more detailed product information on the back of the bottle including full ingredients listings and directions for use. It also states that the bottle is suitable for recycling.
The directions for use tell you to massage the shampoo into wet hair, lather and rinse. I find the shampoo does lather really easily so even with my fairly long hair I only need to use a small amount for it to work. This shampoo also has a lovely fruity fragrance too which makes it even nicer to use.
I find the shampoo really easy to dispense out of the bottle and there are never any leaks as the shampoo is quite thick. The shampoo itself has a lovely pearlescent look which must be the extract of satin silk that it contains.
I have been using the shampoo followed by the matching 'Gloss Me Smoothly' conditioner, which I will write a review for shortly. So far I have been very pleased with the results of the shampoo, my hair feels lovely and soft and well moisturised. As for it looking glossy I can't really tell a difference, maybe this is just down to my awkward hair. But I will certainly buy this shampoo again if I found it on offer as apart from the lack of gloss it did nourish my hair well and cut down the frizz.
I like to wash my hair everyday. I know that I shouldn't as its not really very good for it etc etc but as a smoker and someone who uses plenty of styling products in my hair on a day to day basis I feel the need to and I like it to look and smell fresh!
Because of this I get through a lot of shampoo and conditioners and on a regular basis so am constantly on the lookout for not only bargains from brands I trust but things that don't harm my hair by being too harsh either.
This shampoo I found while ago on offer in my local Superdrug store in a couple of different size options and so I purchased the smaller of the sizes available to try out and it comes in a few different formulations too!
My bottle holds 250ml of the shampoo and is a bright pink plastic coloured bottle with a flip-top lid to the top of it and on the front of the bottle we are told that it is V05 'Gloss Me Smoothly' Frizzy Hair Shampoo 'Adaptive haircare technology, banish frizz and unlock shine for a sleek and glossy transformation' and the size is stated (as I have listed already). On the back of the bottle other information given includes being told a bit about the product and the ingredients are given and contact details for Alberto Culver (the manufacturer of the product) are stated. Its a nice quality and feminine looking bottle this one and I like its sleek style and colour and of course it is informative as it needs be.
The Shampoo Itself:
Well the shampoo is rather thick and white in colour and you don't need to use very much on damp/wet hair at all to get a nice thick white rich lather going and it feels smooth during application and not soapy as such.
The fragrance of this is really pleasant, slightly sweet and fruity but in a natural way though I can't tell you what the fruits are meant to be as its a none distinctive aroma....its just sort of fruity rally!
So using it is easy, it rinses out with just as much ease and of course you can lather rinse and repeat if you want to and follow on with conditioner if desired.
I rather like this shampoo on the whole really. It leaves my hair feeling clean with no residue in it whatsoever and leaves it fragranced too for a good few hours. With an extract of satin silk it does smooth my hair and control my frizz and fly-aways in a natural way and without weighing my hair down. I am very prone to greasy roots and the only negative with this shampoo is that it doesn't fight to keep them at bay, and still the day after using this (as usual) my greasy roots have popped through but to be fair that happens with many shampoos that I use!
This leaves my hair feeling really clean and manageable and really does help to get my hair smooth and controllable however as for being more glossy after using this....well I haven't noticed my hair to be any more shiny for using this at all to be honest.
In my opinion this is a nice enough shampoo but doesn't live up to all its promises however its a nice economical purchase this one and does clean the hair and help to tame it just don't expect your hair to radiate shine or gloss after using it!
I paid 99p for my bottle of this size of shampoo in my local Superdrug store whilst it was on offer but do expect to pay closer to £1.99 a bottle in all good chemists and supermarkets.
