“ Brand: Alberto VO5 / Type: Conditioner / What it does: volumizeses, „
For those of you who have read my other reviews, you will know that I use 4 products on my hair and thats it. So far I have reviewed 3 of them so it's only fair that I review the 4th.
Vo5 Volume Boost Elixir conditioner is a great conditioner for relatively light daily conditioning and it leaves my hair feeling soft, smooth and looking very shiny. I find that the conditioner is great for daily use but I do have to alternate after a week or so to a much lighter conditioner as I've noticed that Vo5 does tend to leave build up in my hair. As for volumising properties, I find it quite hard to believe that a conditioner can have such wonder properties and this certainly proved me right. No voluminous flowing locks for me but then again I'm not that fussed really.
Usually priced between £2 and £3 in most supermarkets, high street retailers it is widely available and there are alternative ranges available: Refreshingly Pure, Sheer Vitality, Gloss Me Smoothly, Give Me Moisture, Revive Me and Nourish Me Truly.
Vo5 have had something of a rebrand recently so there are two different styles available, those pictured above and the new white bottles with a narrow funnel neck. The old range with the slanted lid and coloured bottles now tend to be cheaper in most retailers to try and clear the stock and in places such as Wilkinsons and Bodycare, you can usually pick them up for £1 a bottle - a bargain for a 300ml bottle! The new range come in two sizes, 250ml and 500ml and these are priced at around £2 and £4 respectively. At least one stockist has the conditioner and shampoo on offer at some point or other so you don't often have to pay full price.
The Vo5 range has a very generic scent across all "styles" and also across shampoo and conditioner. It reminds me of a very herbally, chemical smell a bit like the base notes of a mens aftershave. Despite that it isn't too unpleasant.
Out of all of the Vo5 range this isn't my favourite as I now use the new Nourish Me Truly conditioner but before it came along it was a staple item on my bathroom shelf.
// VOLUME BOOST CONDITIONER \\
I picked this up on sale a few days ago at £1.04 at Morrison's, the usual price is £2.20 - £2.30.
I think this is a reasonable price for 300ml of decent conditioner!
The conditioner comes in a white non-transparent bottle with a peachy coloured click top lid.
Over the front of the bottle is the VO5 logo, underneath that is a circle of what looks like water drops surrounding the products name, Volume Boost and at the bottom it tells us it is conditioner and the amount the bottle contains.
On the back is more useful information, how to use, ingredients, contact details ect..
Over all, I find this bottle fairly attractive and I wouldn't say its horrible or cheap looking.
This conditioner is meant to give your hair lots of volume, making it look full of life instead of it looking like its glued down to your head, while giving you volume it also says it strengthens the hair and gives it lots of shine.
I really needed a conditioner that would help my hair instead of give it volume, but I decided to go for this as it was a brand I knew and it was reduced by over a pound.
The conditioner is thick in texture and has a nice soapy clean smell about it, very fresh.
With some conditioners I find myself using so much of it just to make my hair feel soft while it wet, with this I only need a little bit, probably a 50p amount size, that does my whole head ( I have shoulder length hair ) and makes it feel very conditioned. I usually leave this on for around 3-4 minutes while I do everything else ( shave/clean ect..) The conditioner comes out very easily and doesn't feel like any residue is left behind, my hair still feels silky soft though and even though the conditioner has been washed out it still smells very nice!
After drying my hair, I notice no difference volume wise ( maybe because I am not using with the matching shampoo? ) I don't mind this though as I know how to make it look quite big and nice anyway! but I do notice my hair is incredibly soft and looks really shiny without being greasy, my OH commented on the smell of it, he thought it smelled really nice! and my hair was a lot easier to style and brush, it was just so soft, it looked great all day long.
Highly recommend this, can't moan for just over a pound. Good little buy!
I have been using this product with it's complimenting shampoo for just over a week now and I really don't rate it.
I have medium length thick hair, so I didn't really need any volume, but I didn't get it anyway so it doesn't matter too much.
The bottle of this is quite funky looking, and looks like a high quality product, and the lid that is on the bottom does open easily.
The conditioner itself is extremely thick, and white in colour. Much like the shampoo though it has barely any scent, I couldn't find any scent to this, it just smelled a bit sweet. I was really disappointed with this and I'm glad I didn't pay full price.
I managed to get this with the shampoo, when they were on offer at buy on get one free, so I got 2 bottles for £2.20. I wouldn't buy it again though, certainly not at full price anyway.
As for conditioning, it did make my hair soft when I put it on, and you could feel the smoothness as soon as it went on, I tend to leave conditioner on for a few minutes and give it a real chance to work.
I found that after drying my hair though that it went greasy very quickly. I think this is more down to the conditioner than the shampoo. I usually have to wash my hair every two days and this made me look like I hadn't washed it for ages, I felt really grubby with greasy hair.
I wouldn't recommend this product, as it didn't give me extra volume, just extra oil. Maybe if you have really dry hair, this could work for you, but it certainly didn't suit my hair. It doesn't do what it says on the tub.
