“ Brand: Alberto VO5 / Type: Hair Shampoo / What it does: volumizeses, „
I began using this shampoo because VO5 are a good brand and you pretty much know that you will get what it says on the bottle, or almost.
However, 'Elixir Volume' is probably a slightly exaggerated name for something that is just your average, cleaning shampoo. It doesn't really give your hair much volume and I find it has the same effect on my hair as just about any shampoo. It cleans your hair and stops it from looking greasy. That's about it really.
What I like about it is that it lathers up well and you do not have to use much to cover the entire scalp. It also washes out really well and the hair feels relatively light afterwards. However, I found I had to use this shampoo frequently because my hair became greasy again within a day or two.
As for all these added vitamins and nutrients that supposedly work wonders for your hair.. well you just don't know what to believe. Some of them mentioned on the back sound too long and exotic sounding to be real. Then again I don't know much about chemicals and essential vitamins.. so what do I know?
I do like the simple design of the bottle though and the flip-cap, although nothing too unique.
I bought this shampoo recently with the conditioner from either Tesco or Asda for only £1 for both - bargain!
I vary my shampoos a lot, and usuallyl go by what's on offer at the time. Having previously tried and liked some of the VO5 shampoo's, I noticed that Tesco had this brand on offer again recently, and decided a different one from the range - the Volume Boost elixir with collagen shampoo. Tesco have this on offer at £2.20, but at buy one get one free across the VO5 shampoos and conditioners, which is a pretty good offer I think.
Anyway as I said, I opted for the volume boost shampoo, which I actually had never saw before in my local Tesco, as I very often buy the volume shampoo in a range, because my hair is very fine and lacks fullness and volume.
The bottle holds 300ml and comes in a bright orange container. On the front you can clearly see the Alberto VO5 logo, and it also states that this shampoo is 'infuses with 5 vital oils' and is a 'body boosting shampoo for fine, flat hair', which jsut about sums up my hair.
On the reverse of the container, it claims that this shampoo with 'restore you hair's natural beauty with this indulgent VO5 volume boost Elixir'. It contains 5 non greasey replenishing vital oils giving the use ''healthy looking, brillilantly glossy hair'. It also claims to remose the residue which weighs hair down, restore body and bounce and leave hair more voluminous from the first use.
The 5 vital oils are 'nutrient rich avocado and Jojoba oils', 'strengthening Apricot and Almond oils' and 'shine enhancing grape seed oil'.
Now, as I said I have always had positive experiences with VO5 shampoos, however I was very disappointed with this one. Yes, it did leave my hair feeling clean and silky, but there was ABSOLUTELY no sign of volume. Due to my hair being so fine, I know straight away after drying my hair, whether or not the shampoo has had any effect on the volume, and this one most certainly did not. In fact, I thought my hair looked limp and lifeless. I was really disappointed with this shampoo, and it certainly does not live up to the others in the range. If you are just looking for a shampoo to leave your hair clean and silky, then this is fine, but it certainly won't leave your hair with any volume in my experience, and that is not my experience from many other volume enhancing shampoos - which I will stick to in the future.
So all in all, most of the shampoos in the VO5 range are good, but don't be expecting this one to give you the volume that it claims.
I have been using this shampoo for just over a week now with the complimenting conditioner.
It is a volume shampoo, and I have pretty thick hair anyway, but I just got it because it was on offer as I never really pay much attention to what they claim to do, as it hardly ever works.
I paid £2.20ish for this and the conditioner as they were boy one get one free, but I wouldn't pay full price for both.
The best thing about this is the bottle, the flip lid is very easy to open in the shower as it sticks out and it comes out of the bottle very easily.
The shampoo itself is clear and a very thick consistency. It lathers up very well, but I do find that I have to use quite a lot to cover all my hair, which is just past my shoulders so I wouldn't class it as long. There is hardly any smell to this which I found quite disappointing, I tried really hard to see what it smelled like and it just smells a little bit fruity if you get really close for a good old sniff, and doesn't leave any scent on my hair. It did seem to make my hair feel clean, but not for very long.
I have found that using this along with the conditioner has given my hair no extra volume and has actually made it get greasy quicker, I usually wash my hair every other day, but this has made me have to wash it everyday as I can't look at it. I'm not sure how the shampoo would fare on it's own, but I don't know many people who don't buy matching shampoo and conditioner and use them together.
I don't even know if I will finish the bottle as I can't cope with feeling so greasy. I will not be buying this product again.
