VO5 Heat Defence Smoothing Creme
Advantages: Leaves hair sleek
Disadvantages: Hair can feel heavy if too much is used
DISCLAIMER: Regarding the title - I can only apologise for the dreadful pun.
I have naturally wavy hair which can get a bit frazzled and frizzy if I don't apply products to it to help tame it. Generally I buy products from hairdresser ranges such as John Freida or Charles Worthington; however when I recently ran out of my usual hair serum type product, I just grabbed whatever I saw in the supermarket that looked like it might suit my hair.
This Vo5 Heat Defence Smoothing Creme 100ml comes in a pink plastic tube. It stands on its end and has a flip-top lid, which makes the product easy to squeeze out. I still have over half a tube left but once it starts to run out, this will be very easy to cut open with scissors so I can get every remaining bit of creme out.
This promises a super sleek look and is meant to have 'heat defence' which will protect your hair against heated appliances.
You apply this to your hair when it is damp - I use this after I have given it a good towel-dry. You smooth it through your hair. VO5 advise that this should not be applied to the roots - how much of your hair you wish to apply this to is up to you as it depends on personal need. I find that this works best for me if I apply it to my ends and just a few inches above that. I think any more of my hair and it would leave my hair too flat.
You really only need to use a miniscule amount of this, unless your hair is seriously out of control. I tend to use a blob around half the size of a pea. Any more and I found that my hair tended to feel flat and a bit heavy, like it was weighed down against my head with product. I have not had this problem any time I have used a smaller amount.
This combs through very easily and once applied and combed through, you can blow dry and/or straighten as necessary.
I do think that this leaves my hair frizz-free, as if it puts a protective coat around each strand of hair. My hair does feel less frizzy to the touch once it's styled after I use this - smoother and sleeker. My hair doesn't become any less smooth throughout the day, and overall I do find that this has helped tame my unruly hair.
I don't think the ends of my hair look as frazzled since I started using this. How effective the 'heat defence' is I can't say for sure, but as I use hairdryers and straighteners daily, I will take what I can get.
This costs £3.49 for a 100ml tube. I did grimace when paying this, I must admit, but this will last me for several months so it's cost effective, and I don't mind paying this for a product that a) works and b) I won't have to fork out for that often.
WOULD I BUY THIS AGAIN?
I do like to try different anti-frizz products in my endless search for a miracle hair product that takes the frizz away easily, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy this again if there were no cheaper alternatives.
Summary: A good smoothing creme for those cursed with frizzy hair
