I have always had really annoying hair. It is long, thick and very curly with a tendancy to frizz on wet of humid days. Anyone who has experienced the 'halo' effect whilst wearing a ponytail with empathise with me immediately. I have tried practically EVERY leave in conditioner on the market, for the last 15 years in am attempt to tame my unruly tresses. This was the first hair oil I have triend and it has transformed my life!I bought this from Asda for 50p in the sale. I thought it was worth a try but I wasn't expecting much, based on the myriad of hair products I have tried in the past.
The very first time I used this was while my hiar was wet, straight after I had washed it. To my suprise, my brush went straight through my hair! This is unheard of! It normally takes a lot of swearing and about 15 minutes! Pleasantly pleased, I then went on to blow dry my hair. This took much less time than usual and my hair was let feeling soft and looking shiny. Most importantly, however, it was frizz free! I was amazed!
Since that day I have used this both on dry hair and wet. I really does work miracles.
As you only need about 3 drops per application, the bottle has lasted months. I would recomment this product to anyone who has thick/curly hair but not to those with fine or very short hair as it ,ay be a little heavy for them.
Who is this Alberto chap and where does he reside? His shampoos are always so cheap! You can pick up some of this leave in conditioner for only a pound or so down at the supermarket. Our Post Office even sells it! My overall experience of VO5 products is one of a middling nature. I have never been overwhelmed, not have I been completely disgusted. I have a stock of them lining the back of a bathroom cupboard, which I keep as emergency shampoos and conditioners.
The idea of this conditioner is to leave in the hair and go about your hair while it does the job of protecting and caring for the hair shafts. It is a good concept, it saves having to apply it then rinse it all through. I followed my usual washing regime then worked this through towel dried hair, being careful to use a very small amount. It is quite creamy in texture so you will not need loads. I found it better to apply it to the tips rather than to saturate the entire head in it, because you do want that clogged up look.
The cream applies well and can be neatened by following up with a wide toothed comb to even out the cream through the hair. The blow dry then seals the cream in. I finished with a straighten and inspected the results. I have to say I noticed very little difference in hair quality. The hair did not look any smoother, but when I touched it it did feel a little more glossy. Over the course of the day, the hair stayed true to form, though the fringe started to feel greasy. I do not like the weighed down feeling, so if I use this again, I think it will be just before bedtime, then I would rinse it out the following morning.
This leave in conditioner is great for curly hair, when i had my hair sholder length and permed i used to use it all the time and it was brilliant, i didnt have to use any styling products to stop the curls turning frizzy through the day this did the job beautifuly and also stopped my hair from drying out.
Now a few years later my hair is streight, down to my backside and has tolerated quite a lot of abuse from hair dyes and styling products. The conditioner i have been using doesnt seem to be doing the job any more so i brought me a bottle of this again but have to say i have only used it twice. I brought my bottle from save and it cost me £1.99.
The first time i used it it made my hair tacky and look dull when my blonde hair usually has quite a lot of shine to it, i just asumed i had used too much.
The second time i tried it i only used a little bit and although my hair didnt feel tacky this time it still had no shine to it and was very staticy so i gave up and binned the bottle.
I'm not sure whats going on with me and my bottles! The picture on this link is not the same as the bottles that are on sale here in Coventry! What that lot look like on there are the shampoos and conditioners, hand washes and soaps and I'm here to talk about the leave in conditioner as listed lol
This morning I was having a 'low maintenance day'. To me that is a day when i have shower I blow dry my hair and scrape it back, slap on some face moisturiser, and don jeans and trainers. Clean, tidy and ready to go shopping (which I did and spent a fortune, I feel more reviews coming on lol, dam that Boots)
I had my shower, I washed my hair through twice, used some conditioner and that's when I selected what to put on my hair. In the shower I noticed me hair was not reacting well to my shampoo and conditioning. Normally with the shampoo and conditioner I use (please take a look at my Elvive post) my hair is fabulous but today, for no reason at all in the shower it felt really dry at the ends, most unusual and I couldn't get my fingers through my hair with the usual ease.
I'm trying really hard to get my hair in good condition cos of New Years eve. I have a really posh black tie dinner dance to go to so I'm searching out all the best products (that's why I read and rate a lot of reviews as well as write them and bin products as i go along) lol
Let me briefly explain about my hair....
Its just below shoulder length. Dyed black but this year it has gone from being platinum blond, to ginger, to red, to brunette and finally to where I'm at now. Its fairly curly when wet, frizzy when dry. Because of the frizz it appears thicker round the ends than the roots cos they are flat to my head but that can make my hair look greasy and going to dry! I have terrible split ends, and I don't blow dry and/or straighten every day, but because of this it means it takes ages to get my hair to grow cos my hairdresser sees it and is insistent the ends have got to come off, and its always 2 inches!
If i use the right products I can improve the appearance it just takes work but even if I manage to tame it after a few hours it will do its own thing. I have a mighty good cows lick at the front of my head where I insisted upon having a fringe to cover my frown lines much against my hairdressers advice and disgust. So as you can imagine its a real pain up the khyber!
I don't use loads of products on my hair, just one usually and 2 or 3 if I'm going out somewhere special (which lately isn't that often lol)
I went through my trusty box of kit and came across Alberto V05 Nourishing creme. I have owned it about 2 weeks and i bought it for £1.49 on offer in Wilkinson's and put it in my box as a 'to try' lol so reading the packaging I thought hmmm this has got to help , lets give my hair a drink!
Its 150ml light blue shiny bottle. Its long and thinner at the bottom than at the top. Its got quite a bit of information on here telling me its advanced innovation, that it smooths and protects and that it is for split ends, colour damaged or brittle hair (mine is all the above as we have already established! Its a nice enough bottle and has a flip open lid at the bottom (so you have to be careful to make sure its clicked on properly so it wont leak!)

It doesn't say how much to use so I used my common sense and used a walnut sized blob on my hand. The smell is lovely and a sweet smelling fruity flavour , but not tacky and suitable for metro-sexuals too! You can open it and hold it over your hand and it doesn't drip so your in control. Its not thick but like I say not thin enough to run out all over the place and create a mess.
Its not sticky on the hands at all, and I dried my hair on a cool setting.
It defined my hair and created a smooth feeling as I was drying and that was without a comb going anywhere near it and the tugs and knotty bits fell out. The finished result was everything that the product promised, it didn't look frizzy and was a heck of a lot smoother and hydrated... however it lost its shine! It went dull and get this it made my hair too soft! Lovely feeling around my shoulders my hair felt silky and light, but I couldn't style it!
Scraping it in to a pony tail was hell it kept falling out of the band. When it was completely dry it went back to frizzy , but worse than usual cos it was like dry frizz with static in it and it just wouldn't flatten and I got short bits at the front of my head (my fringe) and even a grip wouldn't hold them back! I couldn't do a thing with it and I couldn't wear it down without putting straighteners on it and that wasn't the plan cos my hair was dried out in the first place!
I had to go out and its a cold murky day and you can feel the rain the air, and wind and everything just made it worse I was like the wild woman of wonga! Ive felt a right old scruff all day...
My final thought....
Probably fantastic for really really dry hair, that isn't anything like mine! Maybe if your hair is naturally straight or curly it would be better but mine is just so complicated! I did wonder if it'd be better without using rinse off conditioner first but then the instructions did say to use it but my hair felt over conditioned if anything. Which could be a good thing for some people!
The only good thing about this product for me, is the smell is long lasting and pleasant but I wont be using it again! I'm sticking with my fav dove and wont be cheating on it again.
Another thing that bugged me slightly is no where on the packaging does it says its recyclable and that it isn't tested on animals!
However i gave the bottle to my mum. I didn't tell her it was rubbish, I thought well it wont hurt her to try it. She had dry short hair which is dyed dark over grey with blond highlights. Shes always moaning her hair is the texture of a Brillo pad and that it goes 'fluffy' as she has wavy hair.
Well my Mum grabbed me as I walking past her, gave me a kiss on the cheek and thanked me for it and questioned where I bought it so she could get some more! She was really impressed with the softness of her hair. So as I've said it may not be suitable for me but I couldn't tell you to rule it out! lol
Following on from the recent success of my Pantene Pro-V clarifying shampoo (it does exactly what it says on the bottle) I have decided to review my now preferred choice of conditioner. I decided to try a new conditioner since my previous ?salon? one had never improved the quality of my hair in any way and so I bought a bottle of Advanced Alberto VO5 conditioner. I have been using the ?moisture soak? version which is formulated for dry/damaged hair. ---------------- The product ---------------- ?New advanced VO5 shampoos and conditioners, with a blend of 5 vitamins and nourishing wheat proteins, help build inner strength and leave your hair twice as shiny. Tests show that combined use of VO5 shampoo and conditioner leaves hair twice as shiny, twice as strong, 3 times more manageable and with 24 hour moisture protection.? [taken from off the bottle] All hair types benefit from a good conditioner, which can restore inner strength and improve softness, manageability and resistance to damage and breakage. Time Release Vitamins A, E and B5 in Advanced VO5 are released onto the hair as it dries, to protect the hair at the time when most damage occurs. And so I was expecting my dehydrated and rather sad looking locks to be thoroughly hydrated and mosturised and look healthy and shiny. If you want to check out the science part you can visit the website at www. vo5.co.kr/products/products.html ------------------------- Packaging and Price ------------------------- The bottle is quite similar to that pictured above though I believe the product has been modified so it is now ?new? Advanced Alberto VO5 conditioner. The bottle is light blue in colour and nicely rounded. It stands on it?s flip top lid which makes it easy to get the last few drops from the bottle when it?s running out. The flip top lid makes it easy to dispense the correct amount required. As for price ? I purchased my 200ml bottle for
a very reasonable 94 pence. This was from a nearby chemist but I believe this is the standard price you should expect to pay. This bottle lasts me about 2 weeks and I was my hair virtually everyday. ------------------ Ingredients ------------------ Aqua, cetearyl alcohol, quaternium-18, stearamidopropyl dimethylamine, hydroxypropyltrimonium hydrolyzed wheat protein, aloe barbadenis leaf juice, methylchlorosothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone, magnesium chloride, magnesium nitrate, tocopheryl acetate, retinyl palmitate, thiamine HCL, panthenol, ascorbic acid, glycerin, quaternium-80, hydroxyethylcellulose, dimethicone, PVP, oleamine oxide, parfum, steareth-21, glyceryl stearate, polysorbate 20, citric acid, potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, diazolidinyl urea, DMDM hydantoin. ------------------------------ The VO5 experience ------------------------------ On opening the bottle, the first thing to hit you is the smell. I find this fruity and fresh and very feminine. The bottle is easy to use and the conditioner can be dispensed without problems. It is a white colour and of the same consistency as most conditioners. It is easy to apply to the hair. Having applied the conditioner it is easily rinsed out and even before my hair is dry it feels softer than usual. I always allow my hair to dry naturally so I have to wait some time before witnessing the final results. In the meantime I notice that my hair is combed easily so the conditioner has obviously effectively detangled my hair as well. The smell also remains and this is not too overpowering. My hair retained this ?freshly washed? aroma for about 24 hours after washing. When dry can see my hair really is shinier than before. Probably not twice as shiny as admittedly I don?t combine this product with the VO5 shampoo but it definitely looks healthy and any frizz has been eliminated. My hair is fresh and not weighed down as I have notices with some conditio
ners in the past and it also remains well conditioned until the next wash. Over time the quality of my hair has greatly increased ? I believe from using this product. It is far cheaper than most ?salon? intensive moisturizing treatments and yet is very effective t hydrating your hair. I would definitely recommend this and ? for only 94p ? you really have nothing to lose!
