My hair suffers fro the effects of using a hairdryer on a daily basis and also from daily use of my hair straighteners (apart from weekends). My hair can look quite coarse and dry and brittle on the ends though it still has a tendency towards greasy roots (though this has died down slightly since I have been having my hair lightened). I was looking for a product that would be able to nourish and care for my hair and also be able to add some moisture which it lacks at the moment.
I liked the design of this bottle, as well as the bright colour. It doesn't stand on its head as a lot of shampoos and conditioners seem to, these days. This one stands upright and has a narrower opening at the top and you have o press down (with your thumb, preferably, especially the first few times you use this) and that's what actually opens the bottle. I use only a small amount and it does create an impressive amount of lovely creamy lathery bubbles and it seems to clean my hair really well and leaves it nice and soft and shiny.
The smell of this shampoo is lovely and fresh and though I cannot pin point one particular aroma, all I can say is that it smells like a vase of freshly cut flowers. It's quite a natural smell, and definitely one of my favourites. The shampoo itself is white in colour and very thick and creamy and you certainly don't need to have to use a lot of this - it lathers up really well with only a very small amount.
Overall, I am very pleased with the effects this shampoo has on my hair. It does leave it feeling more manageable and soft and it's also definitely improved the shine of my hair. I am going to continue to use it and I am also going to buy the accompanying conditioner.
Really lovely and very much recommended - especially at this price.
Since aged 17 ive stuck with the same hair products (redkin at £17 a bottle). Im now 24 so thats quite a while to stick with 1 brand! My hair is just past shoulder length with a blunt fringe down to my eyebrows, with doing school runs I normally tie my hair up, but im a hair straightener or hair dryer girl so my hair tends to look quite dry at the bottom. The only reason I tried this product is because my normal delivery is still stuck at the sorting office and with it being a sunday and not many shops open where I live (or decent shops that is) i was forced to try something new. Naturally im going to compare it to my normal shampoo (that I LOVE) but I shall try and be fair to this product as not every product is the same.
The shampoo claims to provide 'rehab and luxurious shine for damaged hair' and to be the 'perfect prep for ultimate style'. It also claims to have the added extra of heat defence. The shampoo is infused with extract of cashmere keratin to strengthen and visibly repair the hair leaving it luxuriously soft and shiny.
The shampoo comes in a lovely pink coloured bottle (same colour as my hallway, which is what attracted me to the bottle in the shop). The brand logo is clearly printed on the front but who could miss such a nice coloured bottle in the shop! It has a lid with a small 'press' written on the top so you only push the tip of your finger onto the 'press' sign to open the lid, its a little tough so may need a little force. Then tip the bottle up and gently squeeze into the palm of your hand.
When squeezing shampoo into your hand you are immediately hit with a divine small of freshness, mixed with avocado, grape, apricot, rosemary. The shampoo is white and quite thick in consistency and does feel quite luxurious which is always a bonus as im pretty picky on the products I use for my hair and face, I dont feel thin/sloppy products without any consistency are going to do much. The amount I squeezed was around the size of a 10 pence piece. I followed the instructions; ''massage into wet hair, lather the mixture by massaging your head with your fingertips, then rinse well with warm water''. While massaging the shampoo into my hair I didn't feel I had used enough as in patches i could still feel my hair with no shampoo, so added a little more (same amount as before, still not enough so added another small amount. I like my hair to be thoroughly covered so I feel like its getting a good wash, but felt I wasn't being picky with this item, it simply didn't cover my hair so naturally isn't going to wash my hair with no shampoo on it, a little really does not go a long way with this shampoo.
While the shampoo is rich and thick in consistency I feel that is the reason it doesn't go very far, I was my hair every single day to avoid it getting greasy and my fiancé washes his hair every 2 days and we used a 250ml bottle in 1 week, most people wouldn't mind that and that that sounds pretty reasonable, but when compared to how long my other shampoo lasted me there is a major difference.
Aside from the eye catching pink, the other thing that drew me to this product was the heat defence. I use GHD iron oil for heat defence but with running around after my 2 boys if im totally honest I do sometimes forget to use the iron oil so the shampoo and conditioner that included that into the washing performance was ideal for me.
When used together the shampoo and conditioner claim to help with heat defence. While it hasn't helped with the already there damage at the tip of my hair, I noticed that when straitening my hair it still looked pretty healthy. This isn't something you are going to notice after 1 use but with continued use you should see/feel a difference.
*****Did it do the job*****
Did it treat my damaged hair? Well it looks nourished, but still feels a little dry and course. My hair is quite thin and from roots to 3/4 way down it generally looks in good condition, its only really the tips that suffer from my straighteners. My hair is pretty much straight anyway, the straighteners are simply to tame my hair, so straightning my hair is always only a 5 minute job so the shampoo didn't really have much to 'nourish' due to it already being in pretty good condition already from short periods of straighting and previously using a very decent shampoo and condition. I also used the conditioner that VO5 recommend to use along side the shampoo and blow dried my hair as usual seen as this claims to be the perfect prep for heat defence.
While my hair looks nourished it, it doesn't feel any softer., I do believe that is from my previous shampoo as that shampoo got my hair into lovely condition, as I also dye it brown every so often. I feel the job had already been done for VO5 so the shampoo didnt really have much to do.
However my hair does look like its got more life in it and my fiance does comment on how nice my hair smells at night and also uses it himself.....no way is he using my redkin!
It doesn't seem to tackle knots tho, when using my other shampoo if I was having a bath/shower in the evening and I had my hair tied in a knot I would simply take my hair down and wash it, the shampoo and condition would get rid of any knots, this shampoo didn't have the same effect, I know that's lazy but I was expecting the same, instead my hair is still knotted and I cannot be bothered to brush it because its going to pull on my hair.....causing more damage. My normal shampoo de-tangled it so it also saved my brushing it.....bonus!
For me personally, 1 way of telling a good shampoo is how soft your hair feels when your hair is still wet having just washed out the shampoo. I showered to use this product, so washed my hair using the instructions given above, then run my hands over my hair to ring the water out and my hair felt rough as old boots. It was only when I did the exact same with the conditioner did I feel a difference.
Would I recommend it? For a cheap shampoo that cleans your hair yes. If your after a luxury shampoo then this isnt it!. It wasnt a rehab for my hair, nor is it luxuriously soft. But it is clean and bouncy.
*****Price and availability*****
While this product is new to me I know its available in boots/superdrug/savers for between £2-£3 (250ml).....however I bagged a bargain with it being £1 in my local poundshop!!! Being a VO5 product it will also be available in all supermarkets. Quite often my sainsburys will drop the 250ml down to £2 which I do feel is fantastic value as the bottle lasts a few weeks.
Having been in and out of hospital with my 2 year old for surgery and asthma, ordering my normal shampoo wasn't top of my list, so I have been buying the same bottle again (reduced in sainsburys, 500ml for £2). Ive now used this product every single day for the past few weeks and still no difference. I wanted to come back and update my review because when I 1st reviewed this product I felt redkin had already done the job for vo5 and that I wasn't giving this shampoo a fair review, meaning all vo5 had to do was clean it....not nourish it.....and I was right.
'V05 Nourish Me Truly Shampoo'
This shampoo is amazing I first purchased it from my local 'Boots' store for £3.99 which is a little more than I would normally spend on shampoo especially for a 500 ml bottle. But I had read such good reviews about the product that I decided to try it regardless of the cost.
The first time I used this shampoo I was pleasantly surprised at just hoe silky and soft it left my hair. It has a very nice scent which stays in your hair, so not only does your hair look good it smells amazing too. The shampoo's formula has a very thick and silky texture and you do not have to use a lot of product to get your hair feeling clean and rejuvenated.
V05 Nourish Me Truly Shampoo' worked wonders on my split ends making them appear less noticeable, it also gave my hair a lot more volume and bounce and body. I also use the shampoo coupled with the conditioner to rescue and mend my hair after I have straightened it.
The shampoo and this bottle are also pink in colour which is a bonus, because not only does it work wonders for your hair but it looks pretty as well. V05 Nourish Me Truly Shampoo' is defiantly my go-to shampoo. It lasts me for such a long time and is absolutely amazing value for money, I would defiantly recommend it to anyone who wants stunningly beautiful hair.
This review is for VO5's nourish me truely shampoo. I purchased the 500ml bottle for just £2 although the smaller 250ml bottle is frequently £1. I look out for anything with the words "nourish" in the title as my hair is damaged from colouring and heat styling.
The bright pink bottle stands out vividly on the shelf and tells me this shampoo is for damaged hair and contains heat defence technology, perfect for me. Infused with Cashmere Keratin, this strengthens and visibly repairs your hair.
The lid is a push and squeeze type, and I find as I get near to the end of the bottle, I have to leave it upside down so as not to waste any product, but of a pain but due to the flat rounded shape of the lid, it does stand quite sturdy upside down even if it doesn't look great. The bottle is opaque so you cannot see how much shampoo you have left. The shampoo is also quite thick so you have to give the bottle a good shake before attempting to dispense. And the opening is not very big, I suppose this is good in a way as you don't get a rush of liquid when you tip it upside down but it's also a bit of a struggle to squeeze the liquid out.
To use you simply wet your hair and lather up. I use about a 20p sized blob, I have long hair and find this is sufficient at creating a good lather, I then rinse and repeat before following with conditioner.
The shampoo has a lovely smell, not really of a particular fragrance, just clean, a bit like soap, and I find I can still smell it on my hair after washing and styling, which I like as some shampoos don't leave a scent, especially after dryers and straighteners have been used. It cleans my hair beautifully, producing a rich lather that feels moisturising.
I have been using this shampoo for about 2 weeks now and whilst I can't say the difference is outstanding, when my hair is first washed it is lovely and smooth and very soft to touch. Doesn't seen to tame my flyaway a though.
I would recommend this product, however I do think there are more nourishing shampoos on the market, although I'm sure they are much dearer than this one. So for £1 or £2 it's good at what it does.
Whilst I like luxury shampoos and conditioners, I have to say that I never stick to just one brand. I tend to change my shampoos depending on whatever is on offer or whatever catches my eye when I am out shopping. One of my most recent shampoos was this VO5 Nourish Me Truly.
The shampoo comes in a bright pink, funny-shaped bottle. To open the bottle you have to push down the lid and squeeze the bottle which does get quite difficult as the shampoo goes down in the bottle. The shampoo has as flowery smell to it although I can't put my finger exactly on what it smells of - it does have a 'clean' and 'fresh' scent to it.
I have shoulder-length hair which likes to do its own thing. I find that a 50p sized is enough for my hair. The shampoo creates a rich and thick lather which feels really luxurious. I tend to leave the shampoo in for around 5 minutes as I feel it works best this way and I get all the benefits from the shampoo. My hair always smells nice and clean with a slight flowery scent to it which is nice.
After use, I find that my hair is left bouncy, soft and shiny. My hair is much easier to style and more easily controlled. I find that my hair straightens more easily and does what I want it to do after using this shampoo rather than doing what it wants to do. There is also a conditioner which goes with this shampoo which I have used, however I do think that this shampoo works just as well and does a good job on it's own without the conditioner.
This has become one of my favourite shampoos; one which I will definitely be using again and would definitely recommend.
Thanks for reading!
